It is nice to have different "people" behind units, but it is sad, that there is no more gameplay use of them and their historical accuracy is also problematic.

My suggestions and issues:
1) Germans should have their own "Wehrmacht Elite" type of People (and different than SS - more about them below). First 5 panzer divisions, Lehr and Grossdeutschlad should be "Wehrmacht Elite" - they were real cream of GE army in 1939-40, not SS.

2) Fallschirmjagers should have separate "people" type (not luftwaffe) with attack only bonus (15% combat bonus in attacks, not in defense). Rational: their tactical doctrine (hand-to-hand combat, ambushes) and equipment (more SMGs, lot more pistols) was "assault". And it would be definitely nice to make FJs better than WH Luftlande division.

3) Waffen-SS were far from elite in 1939 and 1940. Felix Stainer and Paul Hausser invented very innovative infantry training and w-ss introduced fresh and new tactical doctrines, which were somehow better than rigid WH ones, but in 1939 and 1940, they had many flaws and they led to higher causalities (especially in NCOs and junior officers) of waffen-ss troops. Waffen-SS was given worse and obsolete equipment in early war years. W-SS were not trusted among WH generals as they were "political" army.

All these changed during war and in late 1942, core waffen-ss divisions were true elite, but definitely not in 1940 (or sooner).

My suggestion is to give only 10% combat bonus to SS "people" AND 10% malus to their defense (so, while still better in combat, they will suffer more causalities - as it was in 1939 and 1940).

4) All nation reservists - why are they same as "regular" army? They should be worse somehow (portraying their worse training and equipment). 10% combat malus would be nice. Or, 15% combat malus in attacks (if you do not want to cripple them much, make them defensive force).

To add some links (as desired)

About waffen-ss:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waffen-SS
qoute:
Their willingness to fight was never in any doubt; at times they were almost too eager. The OKW reported that the SS-VT had unnecessarily exposed themselves to risks and acted recklessly, incurring heavier losses than Army troops. They also stated that the SS-VT was poorly trained and its officers unsuitable for command. As an example, OKW cited that the Leibstandarte had to be rescued by an Army regiment after becoming surrounded at Pabianice by the Poles.

But I have my statements based on books about SS (esp. by Gordon Williamson), not wiki.

About heer units:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infantry_Regiment_Gro%C3%9Fdeutschland
quote:
The Infantry Regiment Großdeutschland was an élite German Heer ceremonial and combat unit which saw action during World War II.

About Panzer Divisions and FJs, I use (mainly Osprey) books.

I agree for the most part on the SS... though keep in mind that most of these qualifications about the SS come from german wehrmacht officers who might be a bit biased.

I hope to bring out a revised version of WTP when i release the next DC title. I am hoping to implement a number of suggestions from the comments posted in this subforum, including yours.

note that reservists units have lower experience levels and sometimes (depending on nation) worse equipment as well.

best,
Vic
