I enjoyed the Matrix release of Jagged Alliance Hired guns. Now I hear someone out there is developing a JA sequel. Its supposed to be using a Coreplay engine (whatever that is). Anyways google "Jagged Alliance Back in Action" at jaggedalliance.com. There's an english forum that answers alot of questions.

All the enemies are visible all the time, no turn-based combat (because according to them, turn-based combat doesn't allow suppression and flanking which are new features of the AI), "racism" (what?) is removed from game.

People shouldn't ask themselves why schools get shoot up.
They should ask themselves why people who finish schools burned out due to mobbing aren't receiving high enough compensations to not seek vengeance.

As Perturabo said. It's just another dumbed down sequel, like so many before. They gave up core elements in order to widen the audience.

Wow, everything that got taken away is what I enjoyed about the game. Including the lack of political correctness.

I agree... What's up with that? The game is about killing and killing and killing for money right? You use Mercs that kill scumbags for a paycheck and what is wrong with a lack of PC? The entire game is about non PC, Makes you wonder who the jerk making these decisions is.

Good question. I went to the website and checked it out. Here is a link to a sort of FAQ: Summary of questions and answers

It appears to be a pausable RTS. I see nothing regarding the "racism" comment, in fact I saw they want to keep a lot of the flavor Sir-Tech had in the original.

It looks rather interesting to me. Worth following it to see how it turns out. Supposedly due out 4th quarter 2011

No, it isn't it's a RTwP skirmish game, not a real time strategy game. RTS are dumbed down abstractized strategic games, not any real time wargames and especially not tactical games and not skirmish games.

In JA one had to avoid casualties through clever management of action points and I remember winning battles with sharp shooters by continuously retreating, while keeping the enemy out of hit distance.

That said, JA was ressource based and the new game will be action based.

I don't think removing turns will harm tactical approach. It has auto-pause, action queuing, etc.
To me it's a problem because it's another game series where the tabletop wargaming style is removed and replaced with RT.

The worst thing that harms the tactical approach is that there is no fog of war and enemies are visible all the time.

My German is a bit rusty but that appears not to be a interview with the developers but a preview of the game.
I just recently discovered the JA series so it is not life or death to me that this new one be any good. I will hold out hope though that the new one is at least good.

As for the 'racism'. I am not sure what exactly they mean by that. I played JA 2 just a short time ago and don't remember it being racist nor particularity funny either. The dialogue was sort of hamfisted and cheesy in a stupid 80s action movie sort of way.

Didn't jagged alliance 2 come out in '99? I can see the disappointment waiting this long and not getting what is expected. Although similar happened to the Combat Mission fans when CMSF came out, and that went on to be a successful franchise. There is a cult following of 7.62 fans who will probably be OK with the realtime aspect. Some of the supression fire demos look innovative.

I can't see any reason why any developer would purposely leave FOW out. There has to be more to it. I could see the programmers blaming each other: "I thought you were working on it sergei! No, you were assigned fog of war Lars! Too late to put it in now. Do you think the boss will notice?"

Suppression fire is already in in JA 2.13 since many years thanks to HAN.

To be honest, JA2 community is pretty different from let's say Fallout community as JA2 is open-source which allows continued development by fans.
There's more disappointment in still not getting externalized campaign data in JA2.13 that would allow making new games based on it.

In a business sense, its OK to use the term franchise. CMSF was successful in a business sense.
Well I went off topic I suppose since I was referring to successful in a different context like a good pizza and fun to devour, you are right it does not fit.
