For Kaiser, God and country. WWI

Has anyone ever thought about a WW I scenario?

Would such a scenario possible?
And would it be an interesting scenario?

That would be a lot of divisions.

It would also need an engine overhaul as doctrines and supply were completely different

You can play Guns of August on Vassal. That's one of the better WWI games and at a similar scale.

This is a great pity.

I could well imagine how fun it could be to play with such an ugly tin can!

Why are the German soliders wearing Brtitish helmets?

Because the spikes on theirs would go through the roof

There were no spikes on German helmets after 1914.

The Prussia died at the Marne.

But the tanks themselves could have been spiked. There is absolutely no excuse for that.

To bring the discussion back to the original topic. It doesn't seem possible to set a date before 1941 in the editor. Of course you could just pretend it was 1916 or whatever, so that could be overcome.

I think an Eastern Front campaign might well be interesting. Most people think of the trenches in the west when you mention WW1, and that would indeed be a bit dull to play in WITE, but in the east there was a much more fluid and interesting situation that could well be worth simulating. I am not sure however, how the supply model would cope, but I suppose you could just be very niggardly with the trucks. I see no reason why it couldn't be done. Some weapon types might be missing though.

BTW the German experience with fluid warfare in the east compared to the British and French with static warfare on the western front was probably very influential in shaping military thought and perceptions in the inter war years, leading up to the different tactical concepts in the starting forces of WW2.

It has been discussed. IMHO, the fluid situation on the WWI Eastern Front would be a great game.

If you like the helmets, here is another gimmick.
A tank mask that should protect tank driver in World War I from splinters. Good God!

WitE has a WWI scenario. You just have to start a CG41 an play the Axis until spr42. You'll be transported back to WWI style with a Soviet line of 'ant' units in depth all with fort 3's. Careful crossing no-mans-land as all the masses of Soviet arty will be ready(don't tell them they didn't have that many guns in 42).

Let the attritional grind begin!

Don't say I never helped you out with anything.
