Status: offline 		OK - i've decided to take drastic measures... maybe not as drastic as "nuking from orbit", but close.

1) i am disconnecting this computer from the internet after today.

2) i will be accessing the internet only from a Linux-based computer (at least from home)... unfortunately, i have not learned Linux, but this is a big incentive.

3) downloading/scanning the system with multiple antivirals - so far AVG and ESET... ESET said it found something on "Nuts and Bolts" program - which has been quarantined.

Agree. It was good. A "B" type movie, yes, but a good flick and if you look you see a lot of subtleties in Kurt Russel's acting.

For a campy beer and pretzels adventure movie, I enjoyed 'Big Trouble in Little China' some years back.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but "Stargate" didn't do a damn thing for me. The movie was poor and the series was unwatchable. Don't know why, maybe it's shades of "Dune" [shudders].

Well, i have older versions of several pieces of expensive software that i don't want to upgrade because of (1) cost, and (2) sometimes they have prohibitive copy protection on them.

The main two things i use that fall in this category are Adobe Acrobat 6, and Wordperfect 11... both work just fine under Xp, but have "difficulties" working under Windows 7... for instance, i can't get the upgrades to work (service packs) for Wordperfect 11... i suspect i MIGHT be able to import the EXE file from my old machine (which has been upgraded) and just replace the EXE file that won't upgrade on the new machine.

i understand that Acrobat has draconian copy protection after version 6, and i am adverse to getting it... i have a nice Vista computer that has not been used much because of the lack of backwards compatibility. i am thinking i might HAVE to buy an upgrade though... i tried a "work alike" version (Nitro PDF or something like that) but it didn't seem to work correctly.

After i was 0/2 in getting my software to work properly, i haven't tried installing much of anything on it. Of course, there are multiple problems in trying to install WITP on anything except the default location. Since i have a solid state hard drive where the program files are located, this is rapidly filling up, and i really don't want to install to the C: drive... so i haven't tried to install that so far...

Yeah, the minority all right.

The movie was just OK, but the series was magnificent, at least until the last two seasons with the Ori. Samantha Carter in the early seasons . . . oh my. We just got a 55in high def flat screen, and I've seen whole new levels of detail out of those old DVDs.

I watch one SG ep per elliptical machine session on the old CRT TV. I'm in the middle of the "lost Jonas Quin" season, but Daniel will soon be ressurected, and all will be cool once more.

I also enjoyed it. I think getting to see a small part of what was in the book on the big screen outweighed the large parts of the book that didn't make the film.

I still have not seen the SciFi channel's 4 hour version. I need to find that and watch it one day. I've heard very good things about it.

Status: offline 		Stargate: SG-1 was terrific for years, and better than the movie. I agree with Bullwinkle58 about Amanda Tapping (Carter). It eventually went downhill after Richard Dean Anderson retired and stayed on the air a couple of years too long.

The Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate Universe spinoffs started with OK premises and steadily went downhill, however.

Smallville, which had its series finale last night, had a similar issue as SG-1 with the series carrying on a couple of years too long (Get up and fly, Superman!).

Damn, I get all shuddery when I find myself agreeing with Terminus...

Big Trouble in Little China is a great flick. Recently I got my 9 year old daughter to watch it and she loved it.

Kurt was great in Tombstone too (have it on dvd) but I think Val Kilmer stole the show as Doc Holiday. Probably his finest performance.
