1. How many men are there in a rifle squad, MMG squad and HMG squad?

2. How many men in a support squad, aviation support squad and naval support squad?

3. For each aviation or naval support squad do we need to add a support squad or are these types of support squads self-sufficient?

4. Does the required aviation support for an airfield vary according to the number of engines each aircraft has in the airfield or is it only the total number of aircraft present regardless of the number of engines?

For 1 and 2, I don't know the exact numbers, but it's relative to the squad's load cost.  I'm sure someone will be able to quickly state the numbers.

3.  AV and Naval support squads do not require support themselves, so no additional support squads are needed for them.

4.  AV support is required on a 1 squad for 1 aircraft basis.  The number of engines is only calculated for over stacking limits at an airfield.

2. 10, 8 and 8 respectively.

1. Which army ? The number vary wildly. One of the Japanese infantry squads is 19 men strong, NZ and Canadian Militia 10. The Japanese have a HMG squad with 20 men, compared to 6 for the Soviets. Your best bet is to open tracker or the editor.

Number of men is identical to Device load cost. You can check all this in game database. I think squads are under the same icon, as planes.

And actually, I think, that you always need support squad for recovery of disabled device. No matter of its type.

One more question, if I modify the load cost of these squads will that also change the number of men?

Yes and a raft full of other things as well...IIRC you need a minimum LC of 11 for a squad to contribute to AV on a 1:1 basis. LC also is used in replacement costs to rebuild destroyed squads...and the list goes on.

You can see number of men in unit on the right side of middle unit type picture.

It is little complicated, overall 1 load point is equal to 1 man (even for tanks, maybe less), but most important - disabled squads are counted as half, but they will repair, and will be counted at full strength again.

And yes, changing load cost, changes number of men.

Well, the way I see it, if the load cost is equal to number of men then its easy to just multiply load cost with the number of squads/devices and total them up before sending a unit to attack/defend an atoll.

That's not completely clear, if you take (Troop load cost + Cargo Load cost/3) you'll get a ballpark figure, but that formula doesn't seem to hold for all LCU. Again your best bet is tracker, it shows the 'number of men' in the LCU screen.

Real men don't need no tracker!

No, seriously. You can see number of men on the RIGHT SIDE OF UNIT PICTURE! See?

Actually base reports it slightly higher, so it is possible, that vehicles/guns are also counted.

In the manual on page 182 says that "One support squad is needed for every non-Support or Aviation Support element in the unit." Is this an error?

I think it means "One support squad is needed for every non-(Support or Aviation Support) element in the unit.", not "One support squad is needed for every (non-Support) or (Aviation Support) element in the unit." And it doesn't explicitly mention Nav support.

Does the island or Atoll stacking limit also include any pilots stationed there?

I do not think pilots are included, but margin is generally quite wide, as units get squads disabled/repaired during gametime. Just by being on the map.
