So say's the weird looking bird from Hobbit-land!

'weird looking JFB bird from Hobbit-land!' I will have you know Sir!

Sorry. In your case that would be "Weird looking (Just a fracking bird) from Hobbit-land". Thank you for the correction!

Just for the record, I'm neither (or both) a AFB or a JFB. I'm a WITP fan boy who doesn't do production (AKA-Factory Manager in The Pacific!).

Hey Dixie, how do you like the combat system in Silent War? I've been studying the manual, and it seems relatively straightforward, but I'd like your opinion.

Once you're used to it it's a good simple system, it's fairly easy to fly through a convoy encounter quite quickly. Half a dozen dice rolls isn't too bad to sort out most contacts. Abstract enough to be quick, but detailed enough that the battles don't all feel the same.
Having said that, it's bloody frustrating when you manage to hit a 20t troopship only to see the torpedo bounce off I believe that the mechanics are pretty much the same in Steel Wolves with a slight difference in setting up the convoys.

I'm into August 1942 in my game, Spearfish is leading the charts with 53k tons of ships sunk.

Did you guys ever play AH's Submarine? It was a Steven Peek/S. Craig Taylor product (the guys who created Wooden Ships and Iron Men, Ironclads, Air Force and Wings), so it was entirely tactical with no strategic game - but it was a lot of fun!

That makes me think of the second grader who so upset his teacher when they were discussing animals.

The teacher held up a photo and asked "who can tell me what this is?"

The boy yelled out "It's a frickin' elephant!"

"What did you say?" demanded his teacher?

"It's A Frickin' Elephant" the boy repeated.

"Where did you learn such language?!" demanded the teacher.

"It's right there under the picture" explained the boy, puzzled at her anger.

Sure enough, when the teacher looked at the photo there was the title "African Elephant" underneath...

Raises hand. Actually, that was the first AH board game I bought. Loved it. SL came second.

Didn't Midway have the rule where you had to tell your opponent where your cvtf was located after you had hit him w/ an airstrike? If it was, it was one of the dumbest rules that I've ever seen in a war game. Still enjoyed the game tho.

Turning my head right to look at the "game shelf" in my hobby room, I just got struck with how many AH games I have. Didn't think they were so many.

I have; Jutland, Battle of the Bulge, Flat top, Victory in the Pacific, Submarine, The Longest Day, Wooden Ships & Iron Men, Panzerblitz, Panzerleader, Fortress Europa, Panzergruppe Guderian, Civilization, Third Reich, Diplomacy, Up Front, Kingmaker, Kremlin, Titan, Hitlers War, History of the World, Age of Renissance, Merchant of Venus, Rail Baron, Acquire, B-17, TV- Wars, Titan:The Arena and finally 1830.

Many hours have been spent playing those games ... love them ... fond memories of the youth "game holidays" & "game weekends"

ETA; I don't have Midway though

War at Sea was good as well, especially when you had the General article that combined it with VitP.

Lost almost all of my AH games when my Mom 'cleaned' my room the first day after I went to college.

I'm stuck with no-one to play against. So all I've got are Silent War and B-29, games I can play on my own like any self-respecting lonely gamer
