Grollub, we should play The Longest Day with Vassal sometime. I've tried to get USS over here to do it.

Back from another bike ride around Flagstaff. If you are in this area, do not forget to visit Riordan Mansion, nice 70 min tour of a turn of the century mansion by one of the main families in the History of Flagstaff.

Didn't see '1776' in the lot.

Looks about the same amount I have in the library plus many SPI bookcase and those $7.00 cheepo packaged SPI's. Great stuff.

Ok, so we got the vet report back on Beaudy. He's not quite the mess we originally thought, but he's still a bit of a mess. Back left leg is atrophied, and has a cartilage pop on flexion. Not unexpected, and he's still pretty happy about his butt. Vet can fix that, and make him comfy.

Sent his bladder stones off to U. of Minnesota for assay. Results, folded in to his blood work, will tell the whole tale, and say what we should keep our eyes peeled for. Once we get those results back, it's diet definition time; the Hills vets are intensely interested in what's up with Beaudy. They want him as a poster child for dietary mediation. I like them. They are worried about the dog, not their CVs or what they can hustle.

Anyhoo, Beaudy has the absolute best of care (from our vet, Ann Rankin) and some serious corporate sponsorship, so my little pup ought to get righteous pretty darn quick. Will report, if ya'll care.

Ciao. John

Well I care! Consider me subscribed to Beaudy's progress. One of my cats was on a Hills diet for kidneys, I believe it gave that cat a much longer and better quality life then it otherwise would have had. I guess I got lucky that they cat liked the stuff more than his buddies regular strength food. The vet had mentioned that some cats don't take to kidney food well.

Cool 'went. Like it. Not really a cat guy, but understand there's lots who are. Am so very glad you and your cat got lucky. I really think the Hills people have their heads screwed on right. The only thing they ever talk to me about is quality of life. This ain't no commercial. But they have their poop together. For your cat and my dog. Very glad you got lucky, bro. There's not a lot of us that do.

You still got that piece of work, clawed witch, hanging off your shirt front? Just asking. I mean Beaudy drools on every pair of white pants I put on, so why shouldn't your cat shred your white shirts? You know, just to say howdy pardner.

Ciao. John

Well, another "Japan" identity has been outed, even if he thinks we're buying that two or three people are hammering at the keyboard on the other end. Thread, he must think everybody but him is a knuckle-dragging caveman. Classic psychotic behaviour.

He passed on, in my arms, at a very respectable seventeen years. His ashes are in a nicely stained pine box on a shelf with many of the games he loved to destroy by pouncing on. My wife and I have since rescued two adult cats from our local Dumb Friends League. Here is a pic of my old friend in his favorite bed.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your friend, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...but touched by the finger of God.

It is very tough to part with animals. Loosing our dog, or our two cats that we have had since their births will be extremely difficult. Not sure what it would be like without them. I have always had a special place in my heart for animals.... even the cattle we run at the farms to some degree...no joke.

JWE- I like hearing about your dog stories, and I am really glad you have found a new friend. We are on the fence about keeping our dog when we move....dog loves our boy, boy loves our dog...dog destroys my yard, wife wont let pen her up....that sorta thing...

My cat, Otis "the automatic purr" died in my arms at the age of seventeen - purring at the moment of his last breath. I buried him right outside the window by my computer desk - because when I was at home he always wanted to keep me in sight.

Sassy, our "get all up in your ****" cat is the same way. Wouldn't change her one bit though.

Scott- you seem to be away from home. What is it you do for a living, if you don't mind me asking? I think I have asked before too, we vacation every year in Colorado in the Springs and Pagosa, but were do you lay your head at night?

Cheers.

Samantha was a wild cat we took in when I was around 10. She was pregnant and had a litter of four in our house. She disappeared one day as I recall. I've never let my cats be indoor/outdoor again.

Serena, Samantha's daughter, used to ride around on my shoulder. She was a beautiful calico who couldn't purr because of a neck injury sustained as a kitten.

Aruba was a wild cat given to my by my sister-in-law because she couldn't handle her. We had to give her up when we moved unfortunately. She became a very affectionate and playful creature.

Worf was a huge black tom who was the sweetest and dumbest cat I've ever had. Buried in our backyard.

Fox was another wild one we picked up. Strong as a ox and a real beast to get to the vet. But also a sucker for a good ear scratch.

Mim (The Marvelous Mad Madam Mim) is our current girl. She still greets me at the door when I get home. Getting a bit testy in her old age.

Dmitri is our rescue cat. Took almost a year and a half for him to trust us. Now he's the cuddliest old boy imaginable. And big...he's part Maine coon.
