ORIGINAL: Apollo11 Thanks for pics Kristian! Very very nice indeed... I didn't think this would be so "polished"... quite impressed BTW... Yep. The module is an exact copy of the boardgame, all the way from top to bottom. Kristian, how is Allied countermeasures like HF/DF, Enigma and radar dealt with in game? Can you do anything about it to counter those Allied techniques that essentially and finally killed the U-Boot menace in spring of 1943? Leo "Apollo11" Huff/Duff comes along in War Period 2 (about summer of 1940) and makes it more difficult to assemble Wolfpacks. If you mess up the dice roll enough, the U-Boat calling in other boats can be attacked and sunk because of it. Sounds very realistic to me. Enigma starts "decaying" (it's a dice roll modifier in the game) and loses effectiveness. You can make a political request to upgrade it from 3- to 4-rotor Enigma which restores it's effectiveness a bit. Radar is folded into the advance of the game, in as much as it becomes more difficult for U-Boats to move about as the game goes on, and enemy escorts and aircraft become deadlier. The game ends at the end of the fourth week of April 1943, so there's nothing beyond that. Pity. IIRC May 1943 was a very black month for the Kriegsmarine underseebooten. I wonder if the exclusion of anything after April was an allusion to there just being nothing but "the void" for submariners to look forward to. Well, the game is called "Vol. 1", so maybe there's thoughts of a second box. Not much fun as a solitaire game, I would suspect. Possibly not, but that's what you get for being the baddies! I guess that vol.2 could feature different mechanics, thus making April 1943 a logical place to pause.
