Status: offline 		I have had Leningrad isolated since late September. I have taken the main hex for the city before the blizzard hit. It is now early Jan and there are still three Russian divisions occupying the last hex I need to free the Fins. They of course have 5+ forts. I have the hex surrounded and have done planned attacks each turn with max unit bombing prior to the attacks each turn. I have not been able to even reduce the forts any. If that hex has been cut off from all supply for three months....how can this be? Even if I don't attack at all they should be withering due to starvation...correct (cannibalism perhaps?). This is where the game loses me a bit.

Status: offline 		I was afraid of that. I don't have the ability to do screenshots. It is the hex directly west of the main Leningrad hex (which I occupy). The manual mentions two hexes that must be taken to free the Fins to attack. I have all the hexes south of the river from the lake as well. I previously sent one Corp to Finland by water and they have come across the border and are attacking from the north. I don't have a problem with the indestructible forts or the blizzard effect on the Germans but this is the first game I have played where units can be isolated for this long with no apparent decline in fighting ability.

Yes you do...

Just press ALT+PrtSC and the screenshoot of the active window (in our case WitE) will be transfered to the clipboard. Then just open the Paint program (it comes with the Operating System) and use "Paste"option - this is the simplest way!

Status: offline 		I have similar situation. Partly released Fins (they can move south but cannot attack). Leningrad is isolated on turn 22, now it is turn 27 (see map for current situation). It took me 3 Pnz Corps to pocket lot of Soviets but now, in blizzard, these Panzers are in middle of nowhere. Any ideas or advices how to capture Leningrad and park my Armor for refit there? How long defenders can hold isolated? Do they suffer attrition?

Status: offline 		I'll try the SS tonight. Meanwhile I just checked the manual again. There is a starvation attrition but it seems to apply to the citizens and factories in urban hexes but no mention of effects on combat units in those hexes.

In reality Leningrad wasn't totally sealed off. In above examples we have Leningrad completely isolated without any outside aid.

It is possible for units in city. But if you take a look at ss above you can notice that east group of Soviet units is separated from Leningrad. Something like pocket inside pocket. Still they are very hard to crack even with air supported deliberate attacks. To me it seems that 1-1 German crap divisions are fighting same 1-1 Soviet crap divisions. Only thing which helps at least a little for Germans is air support. Somehow, I hope, I will be able to clear that east group, but it seems that city itself will remain in Soviet hands.

Status: offline 		I had my Northern Sov forces isloated in my latest game. I was surprised to find that: a) Static units became immmedialrly unstatic with FAT of 80 ( from FAT 2) b) units which had not moved from T1 or seen an enemy, sitting in Lvl 4 forts when to FAT 60-80 c) Units which had 127% supply the previous turn dropped to 18-27% across the board. The surrounded area is larger than Belgium, with a similar size economy and agricultural base - weird.

That's just it. I am deliberately attacking with up to 15 Divisions each turn. I haven't been able to get better than 1:1.

Status: offline 		I believe Joel has the right answer - cities, especially factory cities, will stockpile a large amount of supplies. You can see the amount, I believe even for enemy cities, by clicking on the city name in the upper right hand corner.

I am running a 41 campaign right now and Leningrad has ~10,000 tons of supplies stockpiled in just one city hex. On a general supply consumption level (not ammo) this is 10 weeks of supply for 200,000 men (consuming ~5 kg/day per man by WitE consumption levels).

Ammo consumption can be about ~10-25% of ammo requirements per deliberate attack. A typical Soviet 41 rifle division at full strength has an ammo need of about ~400 tons. Thus, assume each deliberate attack would consume maybe 100 tons of ammo (far less if the artillery is toast and all we are talking about our rifles, MG, small AT guns and mortars).

Assuming no additional supplies come in, you could possibly see a stack of rifle divisions in Leningrad proper have enough supplies to hold out for around 4-6 months even being attacked once every turn.

Status: offline 		I had Leningrad isolated for months before i moved in.

In any case. Try to take the enemy held port hex that has a railway leading to it - I have suspected that it is bugged a long time now and can actually generate supplies in some weird way even if cut off.

Had Soviet troops appearing there etc. even after Leningrad was taken ( I suspect they routed there from Crimea!), and those troops seemed in good supply as long as they stayed on the port hex.

Something seems weird with that port.
