My first A/C model was a BF109. Shortly followed by my first ship which was the Graf Spee.

All models eventually died the firecracker death

ETA: Hmm ... Come to think of it - I think I saw my old Devastator model in the attic of my ol' folks place. Must check when I go there next week.

Er..actually I was thinking more of Thomas or George (Washington not the III), Franklin, Benjamin...

Mind you there are so many weird and wonderful names nowadays, maybe Patriot or Minuteman or Independence or Bunker Hill

It was about a foot long, so not a large scale.

Those sailing ships were a cow to build

. I built a really rubbish Cutty Sark when I was around 10 but then was almost finished building a half decent version a few years later - only for her to fall off the table, the contact with the floor smashed the masts to %^&* and that was that.......

I have a model of HMS Warspite I bought a few years back waiting to be built, but finding the time is difficult.

When I was a newlywed I stopped working on a model of the United States (Constitition's sistership) and had it mostly done (I had a little work on the rigging to do). I had it sitting on the fireplace mantle and my new wife (who did no realize 1) that it wasn't finished and 2) I was sick to death of woring on the Damned thing) accidently dashed it to the floor , totally destroying it. I gained years worth of "Marital bargaining units" due to the intense guilt she felt. Two years ago (while dusting) I broke one of her knicknacks (a stupid ceramic sheep of all things!) and she declared us even!

Can't beat a cup of Assam brewed so strong that no-one else n the crew room will drink it

iirc tea leaves actually have more caffeine than coffee by weight, but there's a smaller hit in each cup as tea isn't normally brewed as strong.
