Dixie, I love my music - but am not a musical snob i.e. if it sounds good - I like it!

I therefore have no shame in saying that my IPOD contains all sorts from Bucks Fizz (When we were young - remember that?) to Nirvana (there is only one song), from Beethoven to Eminem. If a song stirs the emotions - then it can't be bad.

You justify it however you want

When I was young it was the late 80/early 90s. When I first starting being interested in music it was Take That and PJ & Duncan The first CD I ever got was (What's The Story) Morning Glory. The first one I bought was No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom. It's The Clash at the moment although I'm not a fan of the political leanings.

1. Queen- Hammer to Fall
2. The Clash- Should I Stay or Should I Go
3. Red Hot Chilli Peppers- Snow, Hey Oh
4. The Ramones- I wanna be sedated
5. The Jam- Town Called Malice
6. Blur- Coffee and TV
7. Jerry Raferty- Baker Street
8. Blue Oyster Cult- Don't Fear the Reaper
9. Boston- More Than a Feeling
10. Cockney Rebel- Make Me Smile
11. The Beatles- Get Back
12. Kaiser Chiefs- Every Day I Love You Less and Less
13. Roxette- The Look
14. The Verve- Love is Noise I was deployed when this was released
15. The Clash- Train in Vain
16. Oasis- She's Electric [in fact the whole (What's The story) Morning Glory album]
17. James- Getting Away With It
18. Garbage- Stupid Girl
19. Elvis Costello- (what's so funny 'bout) Peace, Love and Understanding
20. Duran Duran- Hungry Like The Wolf
21. No Dount- Sunday Morning
22. The Kinks- Waterloo Sunset

Warspite1

There's a couple of good ones there - Waterloo Sunset and Make me Smile - in addition to BOC. BUT, BUT Duran Duran Hungry Like The Wolf....WTF?? That's terrible!! Duran Duran - Planet Earth, Skin Trade, or Save a Prayer definitely , but HLTW? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

...and this time its a Duran Duran inspired UNP. Supposed to go and see them later this year but Le Bon has hurt his voice box or some old gubbins so has cancelled

Watching it now - first time in many many years. I forgot just how refreshingly un-PC this film was. Absolutely brilliant!

Hedley Lamar (signing up desperados and thugs): "What are your qualifications?"
Big cowpoke, chewing massive plug of tobbaco: "Rape, murder, arson and rape."
"You mentioned 'rape' twice-why?"
"I like rape."

Warspite1

Great use of the word "Twat" in that film too - When was it made??

1974.

I got a copy of Mel Brooks' director's cut. I watch it often. It is too hysterical for words.

it's funny how some songs/albums remind me of a period in my life...i was in aviation officer candidate school with a cassette player and the only tape i had was Walkabout by The Fixx...listened to it almost every night when falling asleep...i've looked everywhere i can think of for a CD version of this album, but alas, no joy......anyone know where i could get my mitts on this CD?

Pearls Before Swine?

Here's a good "how old are you" question. What did you listen to when you were, um .. in an altered reality state? If you was in-country back then, what the guys in your hooch played counts as well.

I got a lot more hits on Dixie's list. Duran Duran excepted. The Doors were one of those groups that were immensely talented but I just didn't like their music so much. Not being much of an acid man (or anything else for that matter), I just didn't have the right chemical makeup to like it.

My tastes run to stuff yall that would make most of you hurl: Renaissance polyphony, Baroque, a bit of opera, and I have a soft spot for some of those 80's hair bands. Sad, I know, but there were a few good ones. Def Leppard rises to the top of that heap. Bon Jovi and Skid Row right behind them. I also love Irish/Celtic folk music.

The top three groups on my ipod are Chanticleer, The Chieftains and Enya.

And U2.

Hi all,

Also many many technologies that we enjoy right now are offsprings of technology devised for space program - thus it was not wasted money!

Name five.

As promised...

Out of the top of my head in 1 minute of thinking and in quick order:

#1
Computer technology (no one can deny that miniaturization needed for space flight led to computer in all aspects of our lives - from personal computers to dedicated computers in all kinds of everyday objects like cars, kitchen utilities, watches, toys etc.). Also let us not forget that Apollo computers were one of the first general purpose programmable modern computers!

#2
My father was several years on hemodialysis - IIRC the miniaturization of those machines was direct result of purification equipment / precision pumps used for space flight (also isn't the IR thermometer that we use at hoe direct result of "Space Program" NASA technology)...

#3
Fly-by-Wire was NASA brainchild...

#4
This morning I talked to good friend of mine. He wears contact lenses (I prefer and wear glasses BTW). IIRC new types of "hard" contact lenses are result of scientific research directly connected to "Space Program"...

#5
I play tennis - IIRC my Prince graphite tennis racquet uses some very advanced "damping" technology to absorb vibration that was direct result from "Space Program"...

The songs on my Palm Pre 2, that I use to listen to music while on the run, constantly rotate.  I recently loaded up some on a whim from my big stockpile on the computer's external hard drive.  Currently I have the following artists loaded:

Bob Marley
Jimmy Buffett
Lenny Kravitz
Louis Armstrong
Melissa Etheridge
Robert Jordan ( 2 of the Wheel of Time audio books)
Rush
Sting - Nothing Like the Sun is my favorite album of all time and I go nowhere without it
Styx - my favorites as a kid....have recently started listening to their very old stuff from the early 70's again
U2

Possibly, the only one of my favorite artists that is not currently loaded is The Police

I recall liking They Might Be Giants. Not enough to spend money on them, but they were interesting. Same for the Talking Heads. There's a time and a place for some Lynyrd Skynyrd too.

Doing A/V for a wedding this weekend.

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul (Istanbul)
