ORIGINAL: mcissell As I understand it, a port attack will reduce coastal guns along with the port itself. How can I know how many coastal guns are still there after the attack (considering fog of war)? The easiest way to check their existence is to send bombardment TF. You will see exactly how many guns are shoting back, and from which units. You should of course set range to be within enemy guns range. I would not count, that air bombardent will do anything useful, except disabling lots of squads, destroying some supply, and stopping fort building. A good way to find out if the port is mined too! Not sure where I looked, but I had an old Save file from someone with a 1943 japanese setup showing where all the Forts and coast gun emplacements were, assuming the Japanese player doesn't move them of course (not sure if they can be I dont remember) Anyhow I loaded his save file and wrote down the locations of all the Japanese gun emplacements, honestly I would ignore them as best as you can. Bombardment can damage battleships easily and cause months to fix, and airpower is shaky at best trying to knock out all the guns. Now here's a trick - during my game one of the Islands, Wotje or Maleolap I used for target practice for SBD's and TBM's on the port (Coast guns), quite nice targets since they take forever to destroy completely (building up your pilots in the process). I think I landed at Tarawa then used air power to work my way north/southwest towards Guadalcanal. If you want I can give you the locations for all the Coastal guns
