A turn underlined by a stupid mistake of mine.
I forgot to order to a big transport TF to move away from Bihoro....result? 30 transport ships lost for nothing (I had no CAP over there)
Nothing precious, mind you, some xAKs and xAPs...but again i curse the skies cause they were a gift to Rader...

However Rader has leanrt the lesson and now he's keeping his bombers in short range not to tangle with my CAP.

Then i was unlucky cause a couple of SDB squadrons unloaded from air transport ships at Etorofu had their range set to 10 hexes...and they attacked without any escort his shipping at Ominato....lost at least 25 of them for 4 little TKs...

Again, nothing unvaluable.

Bihoro was held by 2 HQs.... we conquered it and our tanks are now following up in the interior...however many jap troops are already transfered to Okkaido and are now strat moving towards the front...i don't think i'll go much further than that.

Shikotan and Kunashiri were easy preys...now i have everything i wanted!

Landings at Shikuka took place smoothly. Tomorrow we'll have our potential level 9 port

What else? Fuso is spotted with a strong surface TF near the Mariannas.... they are coming!

For the moment Rader is still on the defensive...he's gathering troops to Okkaido and recalling his main naval units from SOPAC and DEI...

We sent PTs to Ominato...but the place is fully mined and we got easily clobbered

Missisibi BB bombed the bse north of Okkaido and got a bloody nose...

Now it's time to move in my 4Es....

Still don't have the turn in my hands...just the reply...

I played Downfall against the AI and it would send waves of Mavis Kami's. For some reason I found that funny. The site of this giant flying boat full of god knows what crashing into a ship. No way this would get through CAP, but get through CAP they did. Don't think they did any more damage than a single engine though.

Now we can complete the landings at Bihoro, delivering 500,000 supplies and some 50,000 fuel.
At the same time more engineers are arriving. They will be sent to Shikuka and Kunashiri...wanna build those bases up at their max ASAP!

Now that we have safely gotten our AF lvl 9 we can call back our CVs. If i'm not mistaken by now i should have ashore something like 1000 LBA fighters (USAAF, USN, USMC, RAF, RNZAF, CAN, RAAF)...enough to defend my conquests, waiting for more planes to come in from the Homeland.

The damage of the Kami should be determined by its ordinance...so a double-torpedo Mavis should do a lot more damage than a Sally...

Hokkaido - How much armor did you land with?? The worse you will face on this island is a x2 benefit from a wooded hex. You might need to put some troops in an advancing stacks in "Move" mode to get through the trails quicker and risk them getting hit by air attacks. Next turn, change another few LCUs to "Move" and the prior back in "Combat" speed up the overall advance.

Yes, i was thinking of something like that...and i can easily reinforce Okkaido with 3 more divisions (got a lot more than needed on the isles...

I have 3 tanks units in Okkaido. 8 more are being now transfered from the conquered islands...and more are coming from the States.
However i don't think i can win a race between trails and railways...he can strat move easily...i have to march all the way on trails... but i'll give a try!

And i can ground bomb too...i'm not that scared anymore of ground bombing...not with a lvl 9 AF nearby...

Still very minor losses for such a long range invasion. And the gains you made are very nice. Don't forget to mop up all the japanese bases remaining along your aproach (there are a few islands left, and Toyohara) to get a safe line of ressuply. Kamis are nasty as you can operate them from small bases even without aviation support. As they are expandable you do not really need to repair any planes and if neccesary reder you just airlift a 20 or so aviation support to a base. You can shut them down with your 4E and 2E but there are better targets to attack with them.

The base east of Sapporo is the key to the rail network on Hokkaido so if possible focus on it. And with all the troops you have in the area (should be around 10k AV) you should be able to take Hokkaido, or at least most of it. As soon as you take Hokkaido you even could if you want shift your amphib assets (AKA,APA) somewhere else. As right now Reder will pour all his air assets into this area there might be some other juicy targets somewhere else.

In general do not underestimate his air power. You will get P47D25 in good numbers but there is an army fighter gap between mid of 1944 and nov 1944 when the P51D arrives in good numbers. September 1944 you get an additional 155 F4U-1D which help quite a lot so you should be on the safe side as long as you do not burn 100 of fightes in ill prepared offensive 4E operations.

Oh be sure i won't understimate his air power. He has given me enough lessons that i well understood the strenght of japanese air force in this game.
I won't rush however. nor on the ground nor in the air. Now it's time to consolidate my gains and, as you said, to clear what is left behind.
Paramushiro and Onnekotan are very well garrisoned and fortified, so i will need to prep very carefully for them. For the moment i'll be happy to shut them down to dust. i'll have time to do a proper invasion.

And his Combined Fleet is coming...so i need to remain focused!

Possible kamikaze plane may be the Ki-43 IIIa Oscar since it has a ceiling of 37,400 and a very good range (8/10). She carries 2 x 250kg bombs so will do some serious damage, IMO. You have few fighters that can reach this altitude (P-51B, P47D25, Hellcat I). Not to overburden your plans, but write this plane down as one to look out for so you can defend accordingly.

I think the best part of this is that Greyjoy not only pulled off a massive invasion with extremely few losses, but that he once again set himself up in a position where Rader has to come to him. Rader's numbers are telling against Greyjoy's air offensives, which lack Rader's coordination. But Greyjoy has learned how to slaughter Rader's hordes on the defensive...

And the other best part is that this happens right after Rader leaves India. Sure, India's HI can't keep him alive on its own if the Home Islands get flattened, and India was probably going to have to be abandoned anyways to free up forces to return home and meet this offensive, but it's got to be yet another thing bugging Rader.

In between defeating Fortress Palembang and covering the Kuriles and Hokkaido the JFB are then going to work out how to cover the next major AFB line of attack.

You will need to devote some of your CAP to a very low altitude (5 to 7k) or even lower if Radar sends in his kami at 100' and use some of his faster planes. Anything above 20k will not be able to get low enough to kill them. You will need to make a short list of your fighters, what their max speed is and max altitude is to fight a high/low kami attack.

The only problem is that my air force still needs to be organized...some air transport didn' unload as they should have and those squadrons unloaded are being rapaired so i cannot move them yet...i need a couple more turns in order to have a decent and organized CAP above my bases...for the moment i'll keep my CVs out of the risky area and will devote my effort in reorganize my conquests...

Kunashiri could be built up to lvl 8 AF...which isn't bad at all...and shikotan up to lvl 7...

It also seems that he's moving out of Sapporo...strange indeed... Our tanks are already on march,along with the 93rd Inf division...

It is going to be rough, but ultimately he's going to bleed his air force white trying to hamper your movements and base-building. As long as you can provide a steady stream of supplies and start hitting his industry, HI & the like (forcing him to also defend at the same time he's attacking), he will get caught up in a downward spiral until there is nothing left.

I do not know how much this could be, as i am not a Japanese late war expert but i asume that the number of divisions can be > 50. If now he is able to move them to Hakodate with barges/TFs then you could face a serious problem. That is the only real long term threat i see right now. Kamis are deadly too, but only against your reinforcement convoys.

So, with this in mind, one of your main targets could be the Hakodate port. It doesn't matter how many barges and Divs he has if he can't unload them onto Hokkaido. Also the the two closest Honshu ports, Ominato and Hirosaki/Aomori, plus the port just behind Hakodate, Muroran, should be targets. Even before hitting industry, take these out and keep them out.

Can port bombing simply close these ports? Seems to my simple mind high level bombing would be enough to keep these ports closed, minamize operation losses and still engage in the aerial war of attrition.

You probably ran into the daily port limit with all the massive unloading going on. And since air transport TFs can't be amphibious they just have to wait for time at the docks (not that the TF has to dock, it doesn't).

I've already expressed at length my feelings about GJ's performance here - stunning and magnificent.

Surely, there are a few folks out there that think all the glowing congratulations are premature, that rader is going to thrash GJ?  I can just imagine a few folks popping up after rader sinks the entire Allied fleet, downs all aircraft, and boots out the whole Allied army, to say:  "Well, I knew this was going to happen.  All you people congratulating GJ were very premature.  I knew all along this was an exercise in futility."

If any naysayers out there feel that way, I would love to hear them speak up now.  Come on, put your cards on the table where we can see them!

Nah! There can't be any such sentiment out there.  No matter what happens at this point, GJ has achieved victory by achieving total strategic suprirse that let him accomplish what had to be accomplished for him to ultimately prevail.

I will put my cards out. I am a newbie to this game but have taken sometime to learn the mechanics. When I saw the "Hurricane hit Hokkaido" with zero resistance -- this party was over. A little glance at all the very high level airbases and the ability to strike at will with almost the whole USAAF.. well if the Allies can't win doing that .. then the game is not winnable Forget some small atoll in the Pacifc at extended B-29 range limiting strikes ..Multiple bases in range of the heart of Japan to launch thousands of aircraft.. it cannot get any better than that ..

I, like crusutton and many others in this thread including yourself Canoerebel , immediately recognized that once aboard there was no way the IJ was going to kick them off the island, and at the very least this will be the IJ's focus leaving whatever open to attack .. or just do Strat-bombing at ones heart's content.

Now the neysayers might popup every once in awhile after a bloody turn .. I say this .. I am going to give you a free ride to land unopposed as many troops you can muster for one turn on Hokkido in early 1944 .. would you take that? All the AFB's would most certainly take that choice -- bad & bloody turns and all afterwards ..

If B-29's stationed in Russia led to crying foul and despair in "Taming the Bear" then the "Hokkaido Hurricane" is going to require some Adapin ..

Nah....I'm with you. There is probably a big naval battle brewing. Unless the KB can completely cut the supply lines this simmers down. As I said earlier, after the upcoming "Sturm und Drang" this becomes a game of Strategic Air Command. Sure am looking forward to the Naval battle though

Luckly i have brought enough of everything with me to give breath about supplies and fuel.
I don't need any supply convoy right now. I will...for sure.... but by the time i will need it, my positions in the Kuriles will be much more safer than now...

So if he wants a Naval battle...a CV-CV Clash...well, he will have to come and look for me inside my defensive perimeter (Shukuka-Bihoro-Shikotan-Kunashiri-Etorofu-Uruppu and Shimushiri)... i won't go looking for troubles...not now.

Don't know guys...Rader seems too calm to be really considering this a "winning move"...It always seems that he has perfect controll of everything...So i'm not that overconfident.

...now if only i had more time to play today....ARGH! Damned work

Rader is faced with committing the bulk of his naval power - without the ability to replace his losses, which will ultimately result in the near extinction of the IJN - even if he does inflict equal losses to the allies.
