withdraw

Curiously, this was adopted as the theme of the 1942 SWPAC Motor Pool Assoication Annual Convention.

You know as a newb, it took less than twenty four hours to find a PBEM game. I get a turn as fast as I can turn them around, I get email or a phone call if something is going to interupt the game, and he is kicking my ass. What more can you ask for?

something from the forties to contemplate in the mean time...

Bah, I see women-folk with less clothes on that that at Target...of course they don't look that good.

I have decided I am going to try to get some naval support troops and CB's ashore at Gove to cinch the knot a bit on the Eastern side. Some time ago I loaded some naval support lads aboard an SST and sent them there but they refused to get off the boat. Not sure what I did wrong. My idea was to get some naval support ashore by sub transport and then send in the CB's via amphibious landing after smacking down Darwin airfield with the B-24's from Alice for a few days. Beaufighters can cover a bit via LRCAP from Merauke. We could easily lose a few transport but it would be worth it to have an airfield so close to Darwin. Given adequate recon on the Jap carriers, I am also tempted to get some troops ashore at Dobo although that is too far to cover by LRCAP from Merauke. Koepang is a big field and has plenty or aircraft. I have no intel on Ambon or Sorong (purposely). I also have several regiments prepping for Sorong with the idea of rolling up the Western coast of Dutch New Guinea.

We could take Dobo on the cheap if we just had some freakin' landing craft. It's 37 days to the first LST and 57 to the first LCI. When do we get the little stuff?

Very dangerous limb there, Cap'n. My recommendation is to cling to your USAAF air umbrella-it won't do you any good out there.

You're right to wonder about Ambon / Sorong ranges, as Taberfane and company are within easy LBA distance here. Also note the proximity of the open ocean hexes approximately 5 hexes NE of Dobo (North of New Guinea). Easy carrier launch position against anything landing at Taberfane.

It would be an easy matter for him to slip some surface raiders into the hexes around Ambon to spring on any such convoys unloading too.

The other problem is the LYB cucarachas in the Indian Ocean are inhibiting transport of fuel and supplies to Perth. I have almost every free AK on the West Coast transporting fuel to Oz.

Yes..there are many things that could go wrong. It would have be done on the cheap, a couple of rust-bucket AK's and some old Dutch AP's with a sub chaser as flagship and 6 PT boats as surface escort. Then you take the island with parachute infantry and get as much of a CB Bn ashore as you can get in one turn (or maybe a few turns if the weather is bad). Maybe you lose 2 or 3 AK/AP's for 25 pts and a few CB troops. Merely a flesh wound. There are so many CB's pouring out of Port Hueneme I can't get them to the Pacific fast enough. Build the airield up to level one in a week or so, then you fly in aviation support and 50 fighters and then bring in CD guns and AAA and another full CB Bn or two ....et voila!

Timeline is much, much later. Hit the "I" kye then press Ship reinforcements button to see when they start appearing. The opportunity to "purchase" the small craft is roughly the same time.

First batch of 10 LCTs arrive Jan 15 1943, with monthly rate ramping up past 10 along the year until you have a pool of 124 in August 1943, at which point that's "it" until 22 Brit ones arrive in 1945.

First batch (532nd EBS Rgt) of the really small ones arrives in the middle of December 1942, 5 LCM and 9 LCVP, then two more regiments in Feb and March 1943, one in Dec. 43, two in Jan. 44, two in Apr. 44 and one in May 44, at the end of which you will have 45 LCM and 81 LCVP available, if I didn't miscount anywhere.

*****************Nov 3, 1942****************

Interesting turn. The LYB's went after Exmouth airfield. Owing to the recent presence of Jap carriers, we had pulled back the surface units at Exmouth, leaving only 2 MGB's and an assortment of DE/AM ASW taffys. As the carriers disappeared for 2 d, larger surface forces were ordered up from Carnavon along with some more fighters.

After dark, JJ sent in Yugumo which sunk or severely damaged HMIS Sutlej and damaged the minesweeper Bowen. Yugumo then headed home. Next up were Chokai (CA) and Naganami (DD). They promptly sunk the two MGB's, then Chokai did quite a number on the airfield, destroying two fighters, damaging 15 aircraft and badly disrutpting the engineers ashore. Then the sissies left before our cruisers arrived from Carnavon. When the sun came up, Yugumo ran into the retreating, damaged AM's, Bowen and Gladstone, inflicting further damage. I-32 wasted 6 torps on the damaged Galdstone and missed

Now, I know what you are saying,..."I thought this was s'posed to be interesting". It is and I will get to that if you kids can shut up for 2 minutes and let me drive.

Where was I? Remember the Jap carriers? Well, they came back.

Makes you wonder if Milo sold some of those carrier capable-surplus southern ocean icebergs from WWII (b) to Ito's side---using WITP Assetshare, it's much cheaper to only ship them up to somewhere off Western Australia where the client takes delivery, rather than moving them all the way to the Northern Hemisphere...No sales tax on the transaction, either.

How are you fixed for incendiary bomber loads in Western Oz?

As is often the case, the combat report does not tell the whole story. We lost a few more fighters.

This looks like a very well coordinated reinforcement effort for Port Hedland but it might even be for Exmouth

One time..quite some time ago...there was a birthday party for 3 year olds at my place. I gave them about 50 feet of butcher paper and 30 magic markers then I went upstairs to have a drink. A good time was had by all.
