First off if this is in the wrong forum or not something i can ask here please let me know.

I have been Seeking world war II Color pictures of Japan, German, United Kingdom, and United States of America navy ships. I have not had much luck finding good top down color pictures. Is there anyone whom can provide these to me? The reason I am looking for this is mostly to make a personal total conversion mod for a game. But I only find black and white or color side view pictures or photos. If you can help me a pm would be best.

Again If this is not something that should be asked here, can i get pointed in the right direction or if not possible here then let me know and I'll edit out my post.

I quick look in there yeilds only top down of the ship while under attack and not quite what i am looking for thanks for trying. I may have to break down and buy Jane fighting ships and hope they have a PDF format or I'm be spending a lot of time and money getting scans made.

You won't find color pictures of World War II era ships in Jane's Fighting Ships. All their pictures were black & white. (As an aside, Jane's is not a good source of information about historical ships. The information is what was publicly available at the time and is not reliable. I recall that the 1917 edition claimed that the British R Class battleships had no armored belt, relying solely on bulges for protection, and that the Repulse and Renown had a top speed of over 40 knots.)

NavSource is probably the best online source of photographs for USN ships. WW2 Cruisers has a great collection of photographs of cruisers and battleships from all navies.

What you are looking for (top down color photos) probably doesn't exist for WW II era ships. Color printing was expensive in the 1940s, so most photos you find will be B&W. You may find some B&W photos that have been colorized. Aerial photos of warships are fairly common, but directly top down views are pretty rare.

You could try looking for archives from Life magazine. They printed a lot of color photos (still more B&W at the time, though).

There was a company in the 70's and 80's that was publishing a series of books that had beautiful top down color drawings of WW2 ships. I forget who it was, nor do I believe that they ended up doing all the ships of WW2 but it might be worthwhile to search around for that...
