Had an issue all week since I got the game with it crashing after playing it for a bit not just to desktop but to a blank screen requiring a reboot. I finally got my ATI drivers updated and catalyst working this morning which appear to have fixed it but its just crashed again. It runs Ok ( so far) on my Laptop which is not as high specced as my desktop.

Think it looks like a video card issue but can't make sense of the log positing. I attach the log file and a dx diag file.

Sunderland,

I took a quick look at your files. I'm not that kowledgeable about the dxdiag file so hopefully someone else will look as well. The log file message does seem to point to a problem with the display, though I've never seen that error message before.

When you first start the game and did the configuration from the main window, were you able to set the parameters correctly?

What parameters did you use? At what point does it crash? from the log it looks like you tried the Boot Camp campaign. Can you try running the Tutorial standalone battle?

Thanks
Rick

I had no problem with the parameter setting. When it was originally crashing I tried a number of different ones to see if that helped, (but none did)- mainly reducing the screen resolution and the texture and detail quality to medium.

Currently set at
ATI Radeon 4800
Resolution 1920*1200 ( native screen size of my Dell)
Bit depth 32, Refresh rate 60

It crashed this time in the Boot Camp campaign after runningone previous mission and then in the final infantry campaign- about 6 turns in.

Previously it had been crashing in the tutorial- generally when I got near the church ( with lots of smoke present), but I had not used smoke in the boot camp when it crashed.

OK, thanks. It certainly appears to be something with the video interface. Any chance that the DirectX installation when installing PCO didn't get completed correctly? I'm just grasping now, since it appears this is the logfile msg that initiates the CTD:

1/4/2012 1:33:33 PM: System.Exception: Make sure no other Direct3D devices are created ---> Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.DeviceLostException: Error in the application.
at Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.Device.Reset(PresentParameters[] presentationParameters)
at Lib.Rasterizer.Window3D.Reset(Boolean isWindowed, Int32 width, Int32 height)

hopefully someone who has more knowledge of display card tech will have an idea.

thanks
rick

I will try deleting and reinstalling ( again).- thinking about it I haven't done that since got Catalyst Control for the Radeon installed correctly.
Will report back later today.

Well reinstalled it again, watched it update direct x and didnt see any unusual messages- and then updated direct x from Microsofts own site- and it still crashed on mein the boot camp - the message from the log is below and repats the one you identified.
