Thx Cap and Hans for the infos

So anyone knows (for sure) if empty LCIs and LSTs do give a bonus to the other ships in the amphib TF?

...did lot of research on the forum but couldn't find anything...

Yes they do, but they have to be in the TF unloading to help. Also, ones that are loaded will unload and then help unload the APA and AKAs.

This is the way I understand it to be also.

Good! So i had understood it right! Thanks Dan, Hans and Hades for the kind help!

Now towards Death or Glory...or both...

LOL, this AAR is becoming more visited than the central double-page of a 1985 Playboy magazine (when Playboy was a bestseller )

In these days, when thinking about Hairy to the Bone operation, i cannot stop singing into my head the old song "Big In Japan"... do you remember it?

"...i'm looking for my man tonight...it's easy when you're big in Japan..."

I know it means something like <<Once the rock bands do not have anymore success in Europe/USA they used to go on tour in Japan and for that market publish some more albums...>>...but you have to admit that the sentence "i'm looking for my man tonight and it's easy when you're BIG in japan" sounds really funny (if you get what i mean)

I read Game of Thrones when it came out, then put the series aside as the follow-on books were taking forever to come out. I re-started again after watching the HBO Game of Thrones mini-series. As I started each book, I said I would take a break after this one. I started Dance with Dragons this morning after reading the first four one-after-the-other, sigh.

Looks like I'll have to take a break after this one.

Mike

P.S. You eventually get more GreyJoys to root for or against.

I'm going to finish Storm of Swords and then take a break and savor the next two. I understand that I may need to wait 5 years for the next installment so I'm in no rush. Am enjoying the heck out of them but I have learned not to get too attached to anyone.

I was always told it is about turning gay (not a problem at all with that... I have a gay cousin, and he's 400x cooler than my other 50 cousins..)... but I think it is really about becoming something that you did not wish to become...

In otherwords... if I were becoming "gay", I think the saying would go "I think I am turning Japanese"... NO IDEA why Japan...

So everything is loaded guys. The bulk of my amphib TFs should be able to unload within the first 2 days...so to say after the first turn we should be able to get back...despite the presence of some xAPs and xAKs i've tried to compensate adding a lot of empty LCIs and LSTs which should help the other ships unloading rates.
4 ACGs will support the invasion (with only one actually loaded for this wave), divided into 5 different 100-ships TF.

Basically the TF composition is this one (with some small differences)

1 BB
10 DDs
5 AMs
5 SCs
5 DE/PFs
20 APA (or 10 APAs+10 xAPs)
10 AKA (or 5 AKAs+ 5 xAks
10 LST/LSD (loaded)
10 LST (with only supplies)
10 LCI (empty)
10 LCI (G)
4 support ships

I'm still not sure if i need to add more warships (CAs basically) or if this composition is enough to absorb the punishment of the CD guns.. Because if i wanna add more warships, then i have to create more smaller TFs...and i really don't have many good admirals specialized in landing operations...

Any idea is this is optimized or not?

there's gonna be as many opinions on AmphTF composition as there are readers of this AAR. but i'll give you the benefit of my thoughts anyway...

- 30% gunfire support / 70% transport is a decent ratio, but the support component must be either DD/CL/CA/BB or modified amph-types such as LSM(R) or LCI(G). DE/PF types that don't have a 5" gun should be in ASW TFs, to stomp on mini-subs.
- if you load ships w/ supply in separate AmphTFs, then merge them to your main AmphTFs, some of those 'supply-only' ships will load fuel. They should be culled out & sent back to base - ships loaded w/ fuel will burn furiously if they take a hit. you won't need to ship any fuel to Honshu for awhile yet.
- each AmphTF should include an AGC, preferably w/ a ForceHQ loaded. The AGC speeds unloading, & the ForceHQ affects land combat even while it's still embarked. AGCs in an AmphTF will unload last, so your ForceHQ commander might still be loaded on his AGC at the end of your 2-day turn. If so, merge his AGC into your arriving 2nd wave.
- i'm not sure that empty LCIs give an unload advantage to an AmphTF - better to have these guys loaded at first. empty AKA/APA will lend their 'inherent' landing ability to other ships in their TF.
- your BombTFs are way too light, 2xBB/BC won't make a dent. let's have BombTFs of 6xBB/6xDD or 6xCA/6xDD. if you can't mass your BB/BC/CA into a decent BombTF, distribute them into your AmphTF.
- Gunfire support ships in AmphTFs will expend all their ammo on turn 1, get them re-armed pronto & merged into the 2nd wave.
- all your BB/CA types should be supporting your AmphTFs, use PTs & CV TFs to protect against any IJN SurfTF reaction.

best regards,
jM

OT wrt the Game of Thrones action,

while i loved the 1st book (& its HBO mini-series), the subsequent books bogged down in sub-plottage. Martin needed an editor who could wield a 2-handed battle-axe.

Thems the breaks, anything irreplacable??

1 less BB and a couple less CA and some reasonable DD to hurt your amphib TF's......

PS   If you pull off a succesful invasion of Honshu you win the Tim Tebow Award (ask a yanqui to explain) For pulling off the impossible, twice.

Looks like he lost a BB and two CAs as well. That's pretty bad for him. But the planes on the ground hurt as does the implication for your operation. That takes out one SCTF completely, right?

Bold move.

Yeah but he's gotta play the patriots on the road at Hachinohe. It's gonna be a shootout.

166 planes isn't that much...while 1 fast BB and 1 BC really hurts...but i think i can live with it...

Hakkodate AF is damaged but tomorrow should be operative again...and i still have 1200 fighters over there...
