I have not experienced any of the bugs that people are reporting. Not one. However, mileage is expected to vary, I guess. I'd highly recommend the 1707 Beta patch, regardless.

i encountered a bug, currently, my non fleeted ships are gathering around moons and star ports on an endless patrol duty.

while normally this would be fine, every single non fleeted ship in my entire empire wants to patrol the exact same object!

i can usually get them to disperse by scrapping 2-3 of the patrolled objects (usually mining stations) in a row, but one time i had to delete an entire gas giant using the editor to get them to disperse. reissuing them orders does not work, i have tried halting them and they will return to the object right after i activate auto.

I have this problem as well. I think the bug is that patrolling ships aren't checking periodically for other things to do. If you have them do something else (like refuel), I think they'll pickup a task after that. You can also stop a few, wait a couple seconds, restart them. Then wait a couple seconds and repeat. You can't stop them all at once or the first few will take the available tasks and then rest will just resume patroling.

same here a hundred unfleeted ships all orbiting around the same gas station, build more ships they all keep on orbiting it.

Is 1.7.0.7 the one with the rewrite of the ship design window? Some posts on these forums seem to hint that it is, but the is nothing of the sort in the release notes, unless it is worded in a way that I do not understand?

No. Hopefully that patch is coming soon.

Say what?

So this one guy hasn't found a bug with the latest patch even though you can clearly see there are quite a few reported on the Tech Forums.

Now he "highly recommend the 1707 Beta patch, regardless".
[sarcasm on]
Clearly everyone who's reported is either delusional or lying since this guy highly recommends it. Download it as soon as you can!

Wow, hostile much? You think I'm lying or something? I haven't experienced these bugs. It is either by virtue of luck or a superior set-up. Quit getting hostile and be open to the possibility that some computers are going to be optimized for this game better.

My perception of your truthfulness is irrelevant. To tout a beta patch as "highly recommend" based upon one's personal experience is not doing anyone a service since everyone has a different computer setup.

Not hostility just derision and amazement. To think that since my beta game version hasn't crashed yet then it must be good and anyone else who says otherwise has a crappy system since mine is "optimized"

or how about this...

Dude? WTF?
It's a beta patch. It has bugs. Stop being a fanboi
That could be hostile I guess.

Highly recommended by me. If you'll take the time to search the forums you'll see I frequently criticise the game and offer suggestions for improvement. You might even find my specs, if you wanted to know why I possibly am not getting any bugs (not that specs like mine should be necesarry at all). My rig's not even that great. Spent less than a grand on it. Optimization means a lot more than how much money you spent, and how well your PC is going to be optimized for this game has a lot more to do with luck than anything else.

So, quit being a troll?

Calm down, fierceking! The beta patches have been relatively stable in recent times and I can recommend the 1.7.0.7 beta too. There will always be those who have more/less problems, that's just how pulsars roll. It's always been like that with PC gaming. You just have to deal with it.
Fixes are being done in a good pace in every (beta) patch. Getting worked up 'cause of bug reports on TECH FORUMS is just a bit... dumb. And that wasn't meant to be a personal attack, mind you.

There appear to be a few issues (I have reported 3 personally) with 1.7.0.7.  I think the official patch is the best way to go for a problem free game.  1.7.0.7 is of course playable though and if you want to help Eliott continue to provide problem free DW you should report any issues to him with a save game, that is what the beta patch is for afterall, its not just about early access to the newest patch, its beta so expect problems and help solve them by reporting.

Right on Woodman.

Actually many of the problems reported are to do with the base game and not the beta patch specifically. And many are not bugs but complaints, errors and problems of other sorts.

If the desire is for a game which is basically fault free then wait a while before playing. Compared to most games of its age DW Legends is extremely stable and playable for the vast majority of us.

Remember also everyone.....
Distant Worlds, and many other computer video games, plays across operating systems of
various characters and versions (WinXP, Vista, Win7, etc.). It would take thousands of
hours to playtest the game to come even 'close' to bug/error free operation across all
the different machine OS's and configurations. Not to mention, or forget, that Matrix is
a very small company and Elliot is only one person. Even our beta testing team is small
(but as efficient as we can be to Elliot). So please, understand that yes, there can be
systems that run the game with minimum or no issues/crashes (I can testify to this). As
well as there can be some systems, due to configuration/memory/other issues that may not
get past the splash screen without a major problem.

Nevertheless, that is what the Tech Support forum, my fellow Beta Testers, and the serious
players and modders are for. To join together in harmony to assist each other in a forum
community setting to share in one of the greatest 4X space strategy games ever. Distant
Worlds.

Dude? Dude?
Why would I get "worked up" about a bug? I've had this game since the original before the 2 expansions and if you remember this game had bugs aplenty. So I am quite familiar with the game's CTD tendencies. But that's beside the point.

Please re-read my post and try to stay on topic if you plan on replying to my response. I'll ignore the "dumb" remark since you missed my point. (It happens when you try to formulate a response too quickly - small brain syndrome lol I'm j/k) If you read carefully you will see why and maybe explain to me my point? If you can't explain to me my point then it's kinda pointless replying.

You do undertand that kind of tone marks you as a possible troll? Just check your attitude in the future. We are in the same boat on these forums, so no need to get hostile. DW forums have always been relatively civil and it would be nice if it would stay that way.

Also, I think you missed something

On the topic: The game's not perfect, it will always have some bugs, especially the beta patches. Everybody is advised to report bugs at tech forums where Elliot can read them. He's done great job of addressing bugs and balance problems so far, as you may have probably seen during the DWs evolution. The current game's much more stable, refined and balanced than it was years ago.

Anyways, I'm repeating what my fellow forum members already wrote, but you probably got the point.

From somebody who reads mostly + doesn't post much, fierceking seems like a mighty troll...

I've had the occasional CTD but mostly when I play around with the editor, never with 1.7.0.7 during normal play, does that mean that I should NEVER recommend it INCASE it crashes on somebody elses computer? Strange...

Lol Dude...

The small brain syndrome crack was a joke (j/k meaning just kidding). You should lighen up. Like I said, your "dumb" remark wasn't taken to heart.

You see what I did there? I added the j/k part so it makes it a joke. I even added the "lol" part. Adding "lol" to any post makes it "civil" and you should know that. Ok that part was bull$h1t lol. There's that "lol" again.

Anyways, returning to the discussion at hand and it seems you have gone off tangent again and have posted

...which is totally irrelevant.

One (including me) would expect to see bugs on a beta patch. A discussion on a beta patch, as this thread indicate, one would expect bugs to be reported and discussed. Now why would I be "worked up" about a bug when I know this thread discusses the possible bugs one would expect on a new beta patch? See there? See? Do you see why I am not "worked up" about a bug?

You still don't get my point which totally baffles me. (hint "highly recommend")

What you don't get is that you are irritating while not being entertaining.

Not funny + Irritatingly condescending = You're Wrong.

The public judges that their palpable distaste of your tritely insulting responses (from the original onwards) more than outweighs any even plausible ramifications from any possible overstatement by G-Cube. Thus, you're wrong.

If you had stated your point differently, putting the thought and effort that you put into your snark into making a cogent and emotionally neutral statement, then you might have been taken seriously.

And why are you here making these comments while working on your tech problem at the same time? Did you enable PAE yet? http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2684599&mpage=1&key=fierceking

See, there's more than one way to be a _ _ _ _ _!

<Sigh>

We have new recruit, a champion, to battle the evil non-conformist to the DW forum. I'll call you "New Dude".

Duuuude? New Duuuude?

What's with the hate? Didn't you see all those "lol" in the post? There must have been 4 or 5 there. Remember "lol" is being "civil" (that quote was from G Dude).

Can you point out what the others missed? Because like the others you seem to miss the point too?

Sounds very nice and really long but all irrelevant to the original point.

"Irritatingly condescending" is what I was trying to accomplish so pat on the back for me for a job well done and for you too, for getting the point . As for the "Not funny" part, well I will have to disagree there. I am a funny guy. If you didn't notice I added quite a few "lol"s on my previous posts. I'll tell you what, I'll add one here lol. There

Now...
How can someone who is irritating and condescending be wrong? Is it not possible for an irritating person to be right? Is it because he/she is right that they are irritating? A condescending person can be irritating. But he/she is condescending for a reason. Usually because he/she is right, which can be irritating.

quote:

Ah so now you are the voice of the "public". And they have named you their champion agaisnt the "condescending" evil non-fanboi. And you have also decided to be the judge and jury and name "G-Cube" as winner because you speak for the "public"

Ahhh Crap. I've fallen for it and have now gone off tangent like the rest. I see what you did there. You've baited me so that my point is lost to the sea of unending and relentless non-relevant responses from "New Dude" and "G Dude".

But I have to thank you for your concern about my problem "http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2684599&mpage=1&key=fierceking " If you were a little more diligent you would have noticed that the post was a year ago. A YYYYYEEEEAAAARRR ago. A whole year. Irrelevant but funny. I'll add another lol here.

As I'm new to the game, I never had a transition from a beta version to a final patch.

I am currently using 1.7.07 beta. Will the implemented updating routine recognize a final version with the same build number, or will I have to download and install the final patch manually?

Um - did I miss something here?

Elliot has announced things to be fixed in 1.7.0.9. But I haven't seen a hint of 1.7.0.8.

What gives?
