SoPac
Sent the B17s to Brisbane...dmg/maint ones will arrive in a day or so
Set up some ASW Patrols at Pago Pago with the DMS
Dropped off the Vindicators from Lady Lex at Pago Pago
Will drop of Marine Wildcats from Big E as soon as they're in range of Pago Pago..
Moved some patrols around.. Guam just to snoop the area for a turn or two...we now have complete PA coverage from Pearl Harbor to Pago Pago.. now working on Auckland and Auz
Destroyer squadrons are headed just past Canton at this time
Two more CAs headed to Rabaul area
Lady Lex and Big E are headed to a spot NW of Tahiti to top off fuel from the long legged AO that is trailing them... they will head W/NW to Pago Pago/Suva area

Pearl Harbor
Set up some ASW patrols on three islands
Swapped out some pilots to the G Reserve on a B17 unit that withdraws in Jan/Feb timeframe...hopefully can downgrade this unit to Bolos to get the B17s into the pool.. they're in short supply
Saratoga set to head south to join up with Lady Lex and the Big E just NW of Tahiti to refuel and head out to ward off any invasion that lacks aircover

NoPac
Destroyer squadron led by Omaha class CL headed to Dutch Harbor.. we need to keep some force up there to keep them honest..
Kodiak continues to grow, and has received some supplies.
Dutch Harbor has received an seaplane tender for a forward patrol..with 150 or so of supplies to be unloaded then disbanned...

Philippines
Put fighters up in the air at Manila.. but not Clark Field...just not enough.. maybe 15 total..8-10 or so will be online in a day due to dmg and maint
B17s are standing down this turn...last turn's raid on Menado was pointless.. thought I could catch some planes on the grain.. maybe I should have done a night run instead.. who knows
All units at Clark Field are now in combat mode..
Manila's INF is still resting...
Leaving the ships in the harbor at Manila still a couple of carriers lingering..
Making a sub run at Carrier TF NW of Davoa that has been sitting..looks like we took at shot at a minelayer last turn..
Moved half a dozen subs around and switched some to some choke points I guess

Other
Moved a few patrols to Guam for this turn, just to see if we can spot some taskforces...then move them back.. just want to see what is going on.
Moved some subs around...

Not much going on for me. My part is done. Moving some units around on the West Coast for future deployment. The Barbara Olsen is slowed down to cruise speed and is 92 miles out of San Fran at 3 knots with 86 fires. She probably won't make it, but I gave her the best chance possible!

Not much from me on the 17 Dec turn. Set up an ambush with the 2nd Sqn AVG in China, but he is moving his attacks around. I think I know where I will send them next. Hopefully we will catch some Sally's unescorted. Should be a bloodbath.

Didn't work out so well at Kendari, as the Marblehead's TF was delayed. If it had been there on time, the BBs would have executed thier bombardment mission. The Boise was way outmatched and paid the price. The lack of CAs is the real issue, as they are the most useful in night surface actions as demnonstrated by the Canberra's group.

Too bad we caught the Rabaul invasion force after they unloaded, but it was still nice to see the replay catching those ships at anchor.

Started looking at some naval support issues. I will need a USN BF for deployment to Townsville as soon as possible to allow CAs to reload there. Even with a level 4 port, need more the the 50 there and the 30 more I can get from elswhere on the Australian east coast. Also, since both ADs from the Asiatic fleet are at the bottom, it would be nice to get one to Brisbane for DD torpedo reloads and maintenance.

Evidently, we are bouncing the French DD La Triomphant around. She is going to be routed to the DEI to help operations there. Near as I can tell I stole her from Harvey. I am sorry Harvey, don't know why I did that other than thinking the xAPs she is with needed escorting to Tahiti where we would swap out for a US escort for the trip to the west coast.

No worries. It is just that it starts in the area and is good for surface action, much better than the old US DDs.

There are only 3 DDs in the South Pacific at game start, 2 Australian DDs and the Le Triomphant. Using just the 2 Australian DDs them to screen 4 CAs and 4 CLs in the Solomon Sea. Plus, if they need to reload torps, they have to go all the way to Sydney.

Even 1 DD can help by screening the capital ships from torpedo attacks (not the dreaded Long Lance attack which got the Boise...) and of course for subs. real critical if I need to escort a cripple home.

The two Japanese CAs are sitting at Rabaul, will try to see if we can engange them again, as the Perth and Louisville still have ammo (and the Perth has surface Radar) Intent is to meet up with two CAs and a DD the hex before. We will see if that works.

The Canberra and the DD are out of Ammo and need to head home.

The CL Achilles will head to Madang solo and stir up trouble there.

Hartwig mentioned the other day that he will be working on the turn this evening, as he has been very busy with work (what’s that?). That gives me some time to update everyone on the situation this last turn after orders.

Hawaii
Air units continue to train in obsolete aircraft (Bolos and Mohawks), while the Dauntless DB unit is on ASW patrol. However, Mohawks are better than no CAP over a base…I have set up a couple of groups of undocked ASW TFs with reaction set to 6, but they haven’t gone after any spotted subs yet. Hawaii continues to expand.. not sure yet how much further the forts need to be..

Samoa/Fiji/Suva
Pago Pago – 60 AV (23 Fighters, 16 Dive Bombers, 19 Patrols)
Suva – 136 AV

Lady Lex (spotted this turn in the replay that we have been sent) and Big E are in route to the Solomons, and are currently east of Suva. Raleigh and Detroit are headed to the same area, but they are further north as advanced pickets/scouts for the carriers, and are around to nail any unescorted invasion that steers too close.

New Zealand
Pretty quite. New Z is just training some air units, and the Hudsons on search as far north of Auckland as possible. Inf units in Auck are set to accept replacements.

Guam
Still keeping a patrol unit in Guam to keep an eye on Truk and Babeldoa areas... a lot of activity at Babeldoa a handful of turns ago..but they’re gone now..

Davao area
PI inf units are still fending off attacks in the area.. but the final outcome will always be the same. Going to take as many with me as I can…so far so good.. All air units in that area, and AVD have since long gone to safer areas. PA unit has been moved to Horn Isl to give Harvey addition PA aircraft.

Manila
Bataan – 247 AV
Manila – 663 AV
Clark – 658 AV, 17 B17s

…MAJORITY of front line units moved to Clark and Manila from Bataan…this is our fall back sport… only about 5k supply here, rest is at Clark and Manila. . Fatigue is setting in on the frames and crew, going to do another run this turn, and stand them down for a handful of turns.

North Pacific
Nothing major to report. Here it is very cold here this time of the year..

Jeff, have the ASW TFs patrol just the PH hex with their reaction range set to 3 or so. They will then react out once a sub is spotted.

To add to what Jeff said for my areas:

China: The 2nd Sqn AVG is getting some action. I have them split into three sections and are having them LRcap at 60% over three different areas that are getting devastating ground attacks and they are producing results. This last day, the 20th of December, they Killed 1 Sally and damaged three others. Looking at the pilots G. Boyington (Yeah, I know who he is, but he isn’t Pappy, yet) has one kill along with the squadron commander, J.V. Newkirk. Boyington has some outstanding skills and I expect him to have more kills before too long. In Ichang, I have 1900 AV to his 1000 AV with another 650 AV three days away that will cause a shock attack when crossing the river. Most of the units are prepped for Ichang at 50 or better. Hopefully this will dislodge the IJA and allow us to push them into the trees where we can defend better. There are 22 IJA units at Kaifeng, so I expect a push in that area soon. Chengchow has level 2 forts with 260 AV, not much, but all I have at the time. I do have another 400 AV moving that direction, but it will take some time to get there. The pass from Sian to Tiayuan is having more move into it, should have 1000 AV there if they don’t attack soon. We can’t see what is going on in the south from Nanking to Wenchow, so we are just staying in the trees and hills for now. Same with the area around Canton. Moving some of 11th Group Army towards India for resupply and regrouping there for use later.

Russia: Nothing going on, replacements coming in slowly to build units up along with some supplies, but that is it. Really hope they attack as it will give me another front to fight from!

Logistics:

NorPac: We have 1 short legged TK (Eso Durban) shuttling fuel from Seattle to Seward/Dutch Harbor/Kodiak to build up fuel stockpile for when we need it. We also have a dozen or so xAKLs moving supplies to those three ports for the same reasons. When we need it, it will be there already without taking anything away from what we need in SoPac and other theatres.

West Coast: Lots of training air units. We have 11 LCUs at San Fran that need to be transported to various locations in Australia or SoPac. They will be leaving as soon as more lift returns from the initial deployments. They are ENGs, CD, AA, ART, and one HQ and were secondary priorities to be moved out. At San Diego the TF to take the 2nd Marine Def Bn is returning after leaving without the full unit. Don’t know what happened, but I am sure it was something I did wrong! It will then be on its way to Pago Pago to bolster the defenses there.

There are numerous xAKs enroute from the canal zone and they will form another convoy of supplies to ANZAC/SoPac from LA as soon as they can form up with an escort. We are getting 8 Sims class DDs to help with this and they will be arriving with the xAKs. There are also more xAKs forming up at the canal zone and as soon as I have 10 or so, they will leave with an escort for LA. My plan is to start shipping supplies to various locations and create stockpiles for later. Still going to keep fuel moving to both Tahiti in AOs and TKs. Also, keeping fuel moving to Australia for either use there or stockpiling. LA has nearly 700k fuel and 70k supplies that are not doing any good sitting there!

That’s about it. Anything else I need to be watching for? I am a JFB and am becoming rapidly jealous of what the Allied forces can do even this early in the war. I am really looking forward to what we will be able to do later in the war!

Burma
Japanese Air Force quiet, although forces have been detected moving west out of Chaing Mai. Looks like trying to cross the river MW of Moulmein. Reconning forces to determine size. Moving rest of No. 60 Sqn RAF (Blenheim Is) to Rangoon (recombines Sqdn). Start bombing the advancing Japanese supported by the 3rd AVG in the next couple of turns. 1st Burma Division moving to hold hex between Moulmein and Pegu supported by the 16th Indian Bde. Other Bn forces in place to support the eventual delay. Forces at Moulmein ready to beat tracks, as I have no intention of holding it. It is economy of force, as all reinforcements diverted to Bombay.

Malaya
Lost Johore Baru and have holed up in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown. Less than optimal but the Mersing invasion supported by the KB is quick and kept me from combining the two Indian Divisions. Singers has 70k supply, but he has started the bombimg of Singapore in earnest.

DEI
Japanese Invasion force arrives at Muntok. Wasn't prepared for that one. One British surface Action Group (SAG) is more than 1 turn away, so will position for a night run next turn. Blenheim IVs and Buffs out of Palembang will have a go. Airfield at Sinkawang will be active this turn, so ops in the North Java/Sumatra area will be threatened. Started evacuation of auxilliaries and excess shipping from Soerbaja. Setting up Port Hedland as an evac point with supply and fuel. CVL/CVE TF came near Koepang on a fishing expedition and found my replinishment TF. He has options, but my British SAG and Tanker TF will head SW, the Dutch TF head to Ambon and then "home SE" away, and the transport TFs will continue to unload at Koepang. B-17s and Dutch Buffs will have a go at the CVL/CVE TF if they stay in the area. A-24 groups are in training at Darwin, Alice Springs and Brisbane. They are severely unexpereinced and need to be trained up. Might be valuable to fill out a squadron with trained pilots to get one into action (thoose 1000 lb bombs can sink ships....).

India
1st AVG arrived Calcutta and will rail to Bombay to finally convert to P-40Es. Moved the india Command to Bombay, so had to wait for it to arrive before the upgrade. Two Hurricane squadrons on the way to Bombay.

Australia
1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th Divisions all recombined and training up. Withdrew Hudsons from Rabaul and they are training for Naval search to support ASW operations. All Hudsons training Naval search and then ASW. AUS/US SAG in the Solomon Sea will try to intercept the fast TF presumably heading for shortlands.

My part is very boring:

CONUS: Moving more ships. Some from San Diego to LA, a long range PC from Seattle to LA for escort duty. A supply convoy is leaving Seattle for Seward. We are using all the short legged xAKLs to send supplies to NOPAC for pending operations there. There is one short legged TK that is shuttling fuel up there also. Going to stuff Seward, Kodiak, Dutch Harbor, and eventually Adak with fuel and supplies as we have it a plenty in CONUS. When ops kick off up there we will have what we need to sustain those ops.

NZ: Setup convoys to move RES from South NZ to North NZ for shipment to AUS for use there.

Considering sending some TKs when they come in to EASTUSA for shipment of fuel to CT then onto AUS via Perth. Have to check the time in route to do so vs. sending it across SOPAC along with fuel expenditures. Time to put pencil to paper and see.

Turn off to Hartwig and Bill

Merry Christmas, everyone!

26 Dec 41: Was able to get significant backlog of units out to various locations in the SOPAC from San Francisco. Three troop convoys with escorts will be leaving this day. More xAKs gathering at LA for another convoy of supplies to ANZAC, just waiting on escorts from the Panama Canal to get there, which should be within the week. Will also be designating two DDs to alternate shepherding xAKs from Panama to make sure there are no victims in the run from the north edge of the entry area to LA.

Game Note: We are using dropbox for our files and we are ironing out the procedues to do so, some bumps have been in the road, but, in this game, bumps are part of the interest! I thank my partners for their patience!

Things are starting to heat up in our game.

Japan has taken Java, in preparation for their Australian invasion, while their units continue to prep for Darwin. Rabaul has fallen. The day after the fall of Rabaul, I put area CAs and CLs together with a handful of DDs together for a night run at the AF there. They went in the next night, and ran into the Mutsu and another battleship surface group, and put a few hits in her (nothing major I would assume) The Indianapolis took the most damage and came away on fire. Turn is back, so we can look at the damage. Never got a chance to hit the AF. Wanted to knock out as many planes on the ground as possible, as they do have some Betties there now. She has performed well in all of her engagements in the Solomons to date so far... kind of curious to follow her and update our readers on her if they wish.... nothing special…. but kind of fun.

We can still keep tabs on their carrier fleet for the most part, as they're pretty active in the DEI at the moment.

Some sub attacks here and there.. with a few transports sunk on both sides.

He continues to pound Port Blair, which Harvey tells us is a good indicator of an attack on India down the road..

They haven't probed our perimeter past Rabual at ALL to date.. which Harvey mentioned is one more indicator that India could be their main target...or else they would be securing their flank around Noumea and Efate.. if they planned on a huge push to take all of Australia..

US Carriers are a day or so out of Auz for fuel. They were in route to Rabaul to smash the battlewagons that lacked air cover.. but they were a day away when Rabaul fell.. so they will return to Auz for fuel, instead of Harvey’s AOs…not worth having them that close… Buffaloes just increase the skills of all Jap pilots.. nothing else.

Tahiti/Pago Pago/Suva will continue to build up.

Pearl Harbor and the West Coast sending land units/planes/supply/fuel to SoPac and Auz as fast as possible with the shipping available.

Will post replays and information tonight, along with some screenshots.

Starting to get more and more interesting.

Does anyone follow this? Looks like Harvey, myself, and Mike just use it to communicate with each other..
