I noticed as I was working on turn 1 that the hexes were not displaying the stack limits. The garrison requirements seemed to be correct, but there was no hex limit displayed.

SO, we both copied the ExtendedMapWithHexLimits .dat files over what we had and now we're running some test turns to see if it starts giving the invalid hex location errors.

The problem clearly lies in the fact that the extended map download and the stack limits download are the same files and have to overwrite each other. Question is, in what order do we install them?

Status: offline 		OK...Stack limits are displaying properly and no errors reported so far, but I'll be keeping a close eye on it.

Orders Summary - 12/7/1941
I only changed Force Z's instructions. The rest is more or less the same and copied here for clarity

China
- Garrison Requirements! Even some of the dot bases have them! I've done my best to shuffle troops around to best cover the homefront.
- In general, all the troops out in "the bulge" in the South are headed back to what I plan on being my main line of defense just south of Changsha
- I plan on putting up more of a fight along the rail way in the North. I know I can't hold it for long, but my hope is that I can force him to pay a bit of blood to open up that rail line connected to central China
- Training. It is happening.

Task Forces
(going from memory here)
- 3 of the 4 troop transports in the Indian Theater are redirected to Chittagong. I believe the 4th was the 18UK and they will unload at Colombo to do their nails before heading to wherever I need them.
- The Pensacola fleet near Darwin which contained US Engineers and BFs is headed to Noumea to get a head start on that fortification. They didn't have much AV between them and would have made a poor fortress closer to the front.
- The Aussie fleet near Townsville is ordered to unload at Port Moresby. I'll be attempting to make a stand there this time, since I have some P40s I can use now.
- It is funny that I have already made up my mind to use Suva instead of Pago Pago this time around. In this scenario, Pago Pago already has some troops plus a fleet of ENGs starts out in the same hex. I resisted the temptation and sent them to Suva as planned. I'll also be moving the troops already on Pago Pago over to Suva, though I may leave a garrison to keep him honest.
- Force Z was ordered to Soerabaja. They were NOT sent to Singkawang given what happened in our first outing. I'll look at the possibility of making a night raid before continuing south, but I'm likely to just keep them. As I've said before, the threat of Force Z is greater than it's execution.
- The Aussie SAG flagged by CA Canberra sailed for Rabaul. My hope is to disrupt anything fast grab there while I evacuate the troops to Port Moresby
- Lexington is headed to Saratoga
- I decided to send Enterprise after the Marine AG on Wake even though I knew he would be at Pearl. I won't be resting easy until she's on the right side of the KB again, though.



I have already seen the replay for 1/7/41. I'll post the normal combat report when I get the turn, but from the replay I think it is safe to say that I got hit a bit harder this time. Aircraft losses were slightly higher, but more important, my ships got pounded pretty hard. Even 2 minisubs got into the action! I won't be surprised if I find that I have a BB or two that is going to sink in port. I doubt he'll be sticking around for a second day (which means Enterprise is going to have to hustle)

I do the same thing.

Lew and I's Game has SLOT 7 as the game file with 9-11-13 as previous turns.
Gene and I's is 23 with 25-27-29.

Like this so I can go back if there is trouble AND use the previous turns for the AAR.

Status: offline 		4.1 should be better with having Chinese units at or near bases that need to be covered. Some units simply have to fill out a point or two. You'll be happy to know that the Japanese player has the same thing happen to them as well.

Pearl Harbor
- The day started with a comically effective mini-sub barrage. The first adorable little thing attempted to put a torpedo into the USS California but it was a dud. The second succeeded in doing major damage to the USS West Virginia with a single torpedo. Then a third managed to stick one through the belt of the USS Maryland.
- Then the air raids started: (Round 1) Destroyed a moderate number of my aircraft on the ground, but not enough to stop me from putting up a decent CAP in the morning; Did heavy damage to all battleships as well as the USS San Francisco (CA). Only the USS Oklahoma (BB) suffered minor damage with only 2 bomb hits. USS Downes (DD) was sunk during the action. (Round 2) A pretty stout force of Zeros swept the island's Airfields and damaged a handful of aircraft on the ground. According to combat reports, there was no afternoon bombing (which doesn't seem right to me).


- The KB1 (4 CVs) was north of Pearl Harbor. According to these reports, it stayed there during the day. Where it goes next will be a matter of supreme interest to the crew of the USS Enterprise

The Philippines
- KB2 (2 CVs) attacked Clark Field and Manila from the South China Sea sinking 2 fleet submarines and a couple of PTs. A large number of fleet submarines were damaged in the attack, though I think I can get 9 or 10 of them out in the wee hours of the morning. At Clark Field, the airfield was damaged and a couple of aircraft destroyed on the ground, but the attack was largely ineffective.
- A mini-KB SE of Mindanao attacked my B17s at Cagayan damaging 20 or so.
- I expect that the mKB will swing around to destroy refugees coming out of Manila to the south. The KB2 is probably headed west to assist in Malaya as it did in our previous game.

Elsewhere
- Ternate is taken by airborne Japanese troops
- Enemy landings at Aparri, Cagayan, Kota Bharu, Laoag, Manado, Miri, Singkawang, and Vigan
- Force Z is about 6 hexes directly west of Singkawang and was not harassed by the enemy at all. They will continue south, refuel at Soerabaja (which I will henceforth refer to as Baja), and then proceed eastward in case he pokes around Kendari/Ambon
- I forgot to set the Hong Kong destroyers loose. His bombers hit them pretty hard. 1 will probably sink tomorrow, 1 will almost certainly still be repairing by the time the city is taken, and the last one will flee south.

As with Turn 1, very little has changed from before the reset and I am repeating it here for consistency.



I don't want to type and you guys probably don't want to read a detailed account of the myriad of Turn 2 orders, so you're getting the extremely abbreviated version.

Russia
Who cares?

China
- Most everything here was set into motion on turn 1
- Ordered the bombing of Ichang in the hopes of slowing his retreat. Today is the last day for this before I have to stand down the bombers. They are getting pummeled by Japanese airfield attacks.

Malaya
- Pretty standard withdrawal to Singapore
- Ordered 2 CMs to mine Mersing at full speed
- A TK convoy will leave Singapore and fill up at Palembang escorted by CLs and DDs

Burma
- My initial line of defense will be in the woods along the Salween River (just north of Moulmein)
- I sent the 2 restricted units of AVG to China, the unrestricted AVG is in Rangoon, though I may decide to sneak it down to Palembang if he lets me get a buildup going down there

India
- This will be a garrison mess for sure. I did manage to scrounge up enough of a garrison that the 7IND will be able to leave Bombay for the front in a few days.
- I believe it is the 19IND that I sent to Imphal. I may have the wrong unit name as I'm going by memory.
- Ceylon will be my main staging area in this theater. Trincomalee will be the Naval hub. Should he attack India, I will defend along the Chittagong forest line and the east coast of India (Madras to Calcutta).

DEI
- On Sumatra, if it has two feet, a wheel, or a track it is headed toward Palembang
- Starting to stack air transports at Palembang and Batavia. I think I'll be a little faster building it up this time, but I can't imagine he's going to take as long as last time. DC2s are on the way from China.
- Force Z will continue South and NOT take the bait to attack Singkawang
- Ambon is being built up as quickly as I can. It'll be a speedbump if I get some breathing room

Australia
- Fortifying Perth area
- Some of the troops in Darwin are boarding transports and heading to Port Moresby. I think it will be easier to hold PM than Darwin?
- Started airlifting troops in New Guinea to PM
- Ordered the mining of Rabaul
- The Banshees. I've decided to send as many as I can to Ambon to attack his transports in that area. My thinking is that they can strike at anything around Ternate, Kendari, Ambon, or even NW New Guinea. The problem is that I'm not sure how many I can fit over there and still have the P40s with them to cover. I'm already shipping supplies and fuel from Baja but this is a short term assignment and I don't think I'll have time to build the airfield up much. After this assignment, they will probably flee back to Australia or PM

Fiji/SOPAC
- Started building the port in Suva
- LOTS of shipping is converging on this port. The first cargo and fuel shipments are loading in Los Angeles.

PH/CENPAC
- Not much I can do here until the KB clears out
- CAP is up over PH, though many of them were disabled on day 1
- Enterprise is headed to pick up the VMF on Wake. My plan was to proceed South to meet up with Lexington afterward, but I have to consider the possibility that I will have to flee north instead depending on what the KB does.

NOPAC/Canada
- Set Naval Searches over the Bering Sea and sent a small group of YPs to Adak
- Started building the port at Prince Rupert so that it can serve as my NOPAC supply/fuel hub
- Troops assigned to North Pacific command are on trains and headed for PR where they will board transports to Adak. I also sent an INF unit assigned to Pacific command to PR for the same purpose.

West Coast
- V Bomber Command and II Fighter Command were immediately sent to Cape Town where they will go to either Australia or India
- The Tenth USAAF was moved to Eastern US, but I'm not certain I will send them the same route
- Seattle is the supply hub for PH, Los Angeles for SOPAC, and San Francisco for all troops not headed for NOPAC. I will have a couple big transport fleets leaving the WC for PH, Canton, and Fiji over the next couple of weeks.

Carrier Plans
- My priority at the moment is to get Enterprise to safety after picking up the marines on Wake. She will then link up with Lexington and proceed to Fiji and Australia where I hope to get an opportunity to use them to disrupt his progress SE of Rabaul. I'm also leaving open the possibility of swinging them into the IO to work with Hermes and Indomitable (when she arrives). If Enterprise has to flee from the KB into the Bering Sea, it could be a long time before they link up.
- Saratoga will be on transport escort duty until Yorktown arrives.

Pearl Harbor
- A parting raid by the KB1 results in lots of bomb hits and a handful of torpedoes. USS Maryland (BB) is sunk. USS New Orleans (CA) takes a torpedo but survives. We shot down 5 Zeros, 7 Kates, and 8 Vals but lost 12 P-36S Mohawks and 2 P-40B Warhawks
- Unfortunately for Japan, a group of Kates got separated from the rest and attacked with only a handful of fighter escorts. The resulting slaughter resulted in 17 destroyed Kates over against a single P-40B loss. COL Morrissey of the 18th PG/44th PS becomes an Ace in a Day with 5 kills.
- The KB has moved SW to a point about 6 hexes west of Pearl Harbor and appears to be leaving the area. This probably means that Enterprise will have to swing wide north around Midway and back into PH for refueling. I will be prepping a replenishment fleet to send north against the possibility that he will discover and chase Enterprise.
- Once the KB clears out (probably tomorrow), I will have to figure out which of these BBs can move to the West Coast. USS Pennsylvania may well sink overnight. She has 56 SYS and 91 FLT damage with 5 fires still burning.

Elsewhere
- Another day of air raids over Luzon. In Manila, an attempt to bomb the port is met by 28 P-40Es which shoot down 2 Zeros and 8 Kates with 3 losses. At Clark Field, the two raids during the day resulted in roughly even losses on both sides (around 7 on each side).
- Enemy forces land on Guam.
- The following bases fall to Japanese forces: Aparri, Laoag, Vigan, Cagayan, Kota Bharu, Miri, and Singkawang. This was a bit fast for my liking.
- A submarine sunk CM Rigel which was on its way to mine Billiton. Most unfortunate. There is a CMc that will put a few there, but I was looking forward to having a nice big stack waiting on him if he tries to make that a thorn in my side again.

Weird. I didn't give very many orders at all.

- Set the air transports at PM to get the Lark Bn. from Rabaul. I must have forgotten to do this yesterday
- Tomorrow, I'm going to spend a little bit of PP to move some Dutch base forces to Ambon for Aviation Support. I moved a second Banshee squadron there today and I should be moving the P40s in tomorrow.

Basically, nothing much is happening because I can't do anything with PH until the KB clears out, which I'm pretty sure it will during the day today.

Bad day for the Allies

- Bases captured this turn: Hong Kong (!), Guam (!), Ocean Island, Nauru Island, Menado.
- His heavy SAG that was in Singkawang struck out west unexpectedly and caught my tanker fleet leaving Palembang. It consisted of 2 CLs (Durban and Dragon) and 4 TKs full of fuel. All were sunk and I only got 1 shell hit apiece on the 2 BBs. Total loss.
- My Australian cruiser group arrived at Rabaul at the same time that the enemy moved a SAG into the hex. The IJN group consisted of 4 CAs and 4 DDs while my group only had 1 CA and 4 CLs. CL Adelaide was sunk. CA Canberra took some hits but the damage is negligible. There are 2 enemy transport TFs within a day from arriving at Rabaul. Given the strength of the enemy SAG, I don't really see any option here but to retreat.

I feel like I've been steamrolled everywhere so far. Hong Kong fell on the very first attack, though it had been bombed to rubble before that. I'm disappointed in the performance of my 2 fleets - the force at Rabaul in particular was pathetic.

Again, not much needed doing.

- I bought the Base Force in Makassar and began loading it on transports to send to Ambon. I'm desperate for some aviation support over there.
- All the Banshee squadrons are at Ambon. All that remains is to move the P40s in to fly CAP, but they had to take a pitstop in Timor on the way
- Without boring you with details, I sent reinforcements to Midway, Canton, and Palmyra. Next up is Adak but that will take some time and I have nothing that can cover their landing by air or sea
- I ordered the Canberra and her fleet to retreat to Brisbane for repairs rather than stick around to see the bitter end of Rabaul
- Force Z and the newly formed Houston Battle Group ("Houston BG") are headed to the Ambon/Kendari area to prevent any sudden grabs over there
- Enterprise retrieved the VMF on Wake and is breaking north to avoid the KB which is steaming westward from Pearl. Hopefully, they can swing north of Midway and thence to Pearl
- Lexington is headed to Pearl from the South to meet her sister.
- Saratoga is awaiting the arrival of Sims Class DDs to serve as her escort. She'll also need some cruisers out of Pearl but those will have to repair first. I'm not planning on doing much with her before Yorktown arrives anyway.

- An enemy submarine (SS I-3) is near Fiji. I'm rather annoyed that it took all of 3 days to sniff out where I was working down there.
- As expected, a large force landed at Rabaul. My surviving cruisers made it away safely.
- The KB has moved about 8 hexes directly west of its previous position. I believe it to be headed directly for Truk, and thus Enterprise should swing well north of it with no problem.
- The mKB is now parked in the Celebes Sea, and with the assistance of a light SAG is slaughtering the ships trying to escape the Philippines. AV Langley was sunk today.
- He is moving rapidly in Borneo and Mindinao, but slowly in Luzon.

Overall, I think he has come out of the gates a lot faster this time, but this is not Scenario 2 and he has to run out of gas or at least stop to take a breath sooner or later.

Mostly, I tinkered with build orders and welcomed arriving troops to their new bases this turn.

- All Banshees and a squadron of P40s are settled into Ambon. I have fuel, supplies, and more aviation support on the way
- I have a massive cargo and fuel convoy loading at LA bound for Suva. An ASW fleet has been dispatched to try to deal with the submarine menace around Fiji.
- B17s out of Baja are bombing Singkawang's airfield again

My opponent and I agreed to a nighttime bombing rule. Basically, the moonlight needs to be above a certain percentage. He never sent me the email to remind me, so I don't remember what the percentage is. In our last game, he took advantage of nighttime bombing raids over Singapore in a big way.

- The mKB has moved just shy of the Makassar Strait and began slaughtering any Philippines refugees they could. His CBA sunk 4 AMs, 2 PGs, about 8 xAKLs and a TK. Painful to watch but these things happen, but that's the beginning of the war for ya. If he moves his fleet into the strait itself, it will be a matter for serious consideration. Force Z and several cruiser TFs would be in range, but I'd have virtually no air cover. I wish he'd bring them close to Ambon.
- KB1 has apparently entered a blind spot in my naval search pattern. I have no reason to suspect that it did anything but continue westward toward Truk. My submarines have spotted a TF hovering between Truk and Wake and I suspect that is his AOs waiting to see if they are needed. Enterprise should be well clear of his visual range (north of Midway)
- KB2 has disappeared. My best guess is that it headed west to assist in Malaya
- My B17 bombing of Singkawang did not go so well. I'm going to stand them down and build them up a bit before sending them back.
- More mines in place at Billiton.
- Palembang is up to 160ish AV. I'm surprised he is letting me build it up. However, I'm starting to notice that some of my transports between Batavia and Palembang are being shot down. The notice says that such-and-such an aircraft was "intercepted." I'm not sure how they are being intercepted when I have CAP flying over both bases. Could he be doing LRCAP between them?

Status: offline 		Whoa. I just looked at the turn and realized that he has moved that heavy SAG that sunk the CLs Dragon and Durban south of Billiton and into the Java Sea. Is he trying to get Force Z to come out and play thinking it is in Batavia or Baja? He is playing far more aggressive than I anticipated.

- This turn was mostly about giving orders to the nearly 3 dozen LCUs that arrived at their assigned destinations. Most of it was mundane. The only thing of note that I can recall off the top of my head is that the 7IND in Bombay was replaced by a large enough garrison that I could move them to Chittagong. Yipee!
- The more I thought about it, the more skittish I became about not knowing where the KB is exactly. I'm about 95% certain that it went directly west toward Truk, but within that 5% are two possibilities: a) that Lexington was spotted by a sub and the KB turned SE into a hole in my search patterns, or b) that he knows where Enterprise is and turned NE (though that should be in the middle of my coverage). I left the Enterprise as it was, but out of an abundance of caution, Lexington will sail directly east for a turn before going to PH.

- The enemy BB group south of Billiton moved back North in the night and avoided my Java bombers.
- Chokai led a number of light cruisers down the river at Palembang. As a result, I lost 2 AMs 2 AMCs, a PG, and 8 TKs. That fleet was supposed to leave in the night, but I told it to stay because the SAG south of Billiton might have intercepted it. It was full of fuel. Tough loss.
- When Chokai got done sinking all that, it bombarded Palembang, damaging the Airfield by about 30% and damaging a dozen or so transports. Most of my transports are in Batavia pushing troops to Palembang, so I'm not terribly hurt by this.
- The mKB disappeared NE of Borneo. I don't have good coverage over there, so it may still be right where I saw it last. I've tasked some B17s out of Baja for some coverage over the Strait.
- In China, he has an army marching toward Changsha with upwards of 1000 AV. Not enough to take it, but enough to harass my buffer hexes
- The air war over Luzon has been about 1:1 for several days now, but the losses on each side are light. This is largely due to weather, I think.
- I'm still having a LOT of transports to Palembang intercepted by whatever mysterious force is intercepting them

Status: offline 		About your transports being shot down, do you have physically have fighters flying CAP over the hex or are you LRCAPing Palembang? Also, is he sweeping Palembang during these turns?

Status: offline 		I have a couple small squadrons flying CAP over Palembang. He has not been sweeping Palembang, though my CAP did engage some LRCAP that he had over his Chokai TF.

Status: offline 		Got me there mate, stop the flights if it's costing you airframes, at least for the time being, I'm sure it's not escaping his notice that his fighters are getting kills. You don't want to give him freebies like that, break the cycle and maybe pick it up again in a week or two of game time to see if he's conscientious about keeping an eye on the details.

- Sent my PTs into Palembang in the hopes that the enemy ships there used up all their ammo on the TKs and the bombardment. A few lucky torpedo hits would improve my morale a good deal
- No clue where the KB is. I've moved some search planes out to Wake to help out
- Dispatched a group of support ships to Suva
- Refueling Force Z at sea since Ambon has no fuel at the moment. Tankers are on the way to remedy this.
- My CVs should be in PH within a couple of days. They will refuel and then make their way to SOPAC/Australia accompanied by a replenishment fleet who will assist their operations in those waters. I'm thinking about moving them around to the west of Java
- My ships in PH continue to take care of emergency repairs. When I get a good number of them that can take to sea, I'll move them to the WC. I need to read up on the AR's capabilities. Any good at sea? Should they join the escort?
- PM = 150AV; Palembang = 160AV

Status: offline 		I'm pretty sure ARs can only do their work when disbanded [at anchor] in port. It would do you no good in helping damaged ships make the transit to the WC. However, other undamaged ships can help a little with pumps and firefighting teams - that's why the AI tries to have an undamaged DD escort a damaged ship when an Escort TF is formed after battle damage.

Welp! The gigs up, boys.

- After another round of bombardment (from a different TF), Japan landed about 500 AV at Palembang. Just when I was starting to wonder if he was actually going to let me build it up again. Oh well. I'll have to find a Plan B.
- LOTS of submarine attacks today. I must have fired 24 torpedoes at enemy ships. Of those almost all hit...and 1 exploded. Futility.
- A raid of 27 Vals bombed an ASW fleet that was 1-2 hexes north of Batavia sinking USS John D. Edwards with 4 bomb hits. The IJN carrier task force is just NW of Billiton and is almost certainly the KB2 containing 2 fleet carriers. In our last game, he used this division of the KB to cover a Mersing landing. I'm wondering if the troops that landed at Palembang are the same he would have used at Mersing or if these are the troops that he used on Billiton last game. In either case, he seems to be playing more aggressively and with more haste. I will be looking for ways to make him regret that.

Nothing of huge significance in the SigInt, but "radio chatter" (code for his propaganda filled chatting on teamspeak) indicates that he may have spotted Force Z. Fine with me! If he sails the mKB down toward Ambon my Banshees will have something to say about it.

Status: offline 		The A-14 Banshee are nice to have, but they have very poor NavB skill. Don't expect to get many hits. However, you can use them to get him to react to you and then hit where he has just left. The British Swordfish and Vildebeest are nice planes to use away from Singapore.

Send four escorts per damaged BB from Pearl to USA. Make sure to use lots of waypoints for the first few turns out of port to avoid any subs. Your BBs should have all damages that can be repaired pierside done before leaving port.

- ASW fleets in the Java Sea are all ordered into safe ports until this carrier groups gets out of our hair
- Houston BG will be refueling at sea this turn
- I moved all my transport squadrons from Palembang and Batavia to Soerabaja and the other lvl 4 airport in SE Java. I was hoping they could reach Ambon from Soerabaja and some of them can but only at the edge of extended range. I'm a bit lost in the DEI now that Palembang is not an option. Any advice on the defense of Java?
- Loading another group of troops out of SF for Suva. They will leave without escort or even enough fuel to make it, but I have two AOs merging with them in a couple of days and 3-4 DDs that will meet them SE of Pearl to serve as their escort. All my DDs are in use right now, so I have to scrounge up what I can. Not safe.
- The troops destined for Adak should arrive in Prince Rupert tomorrow. The transports are just waiting for them to get to the train station before boarding them and moving out

This is what the Pearl repair situation looks like and what my tentative plan of action is:

Status: offline 		A couple of additional things to consider about the PH repair situation that I failed to mention in my 1am haze:
- These are only the capital ships that need repairing. I have a ton of CLs and smaller ships that need a few weeks in the yard as well.
- The reason I thought to send the CAs to the SD area was because Saratoga and Yorktown need escorts badly. Saratoga is sitting there in port with nary a DD in sight (she's waiting on the Sims Class DD delivery in a few days). I figured if I needed them over there anyway, I may as well stick them there for repairs. I'm mostly just concerned about NO's flotation on the way over.

I don't plan on sending them anywhere until all but major damage is repaired. Just planning ahead.

I have tremendous success with the A24 even with crews with 35 experiece.

Apparently even a rookie can hit a big transport with a dive bomber.

You do want to make sure you get them in the same hex with the incoming and understrength SWPac A24 squadrons when it comes time to "withdraw" the ABDA ones AND "disband" them instead of "withdrawing" them. When you do it that way the outgoing sqaudron gives it planes to the squadron sticking around.
