Ordnance rained down on a freighter,....as they flew overhead I recognised the unmistakeable outline of L/Cmdr 'Mad' Jack McMad, adventurer, lion wrestler, raconteur and professional lunatic, chucking handfuls of grenades out of the cockpit.

I breathed a sigh of relief.

I playtested WPO, a hugely underrated game in my opinion. Glad you guys have brought it back out the closet.

Another of Torstens Gunboats gets hit by an aerial torpedo.

Two in two days....aerial torpedoes are like buses in this game, don't see any launched for ages then two come along one after the other!!

A Statement from the Imperial Palace.

'It has come to the attention of the Imperial High Command that British Submarine's have been operating around the waters of Manila.

The Submarines L-16 and L-2 have been spotted and both submarines have fired on Japanese shipping.

The Japanese Government demands that these ships are withdrawn forthwith. Furthermore, any more episodes of this piratical nature carried out by the Royal Navy will be considered as an act of war.

The Japanese Government seeks assurances that Great Britains neutrality remains intact.'

signed

Okuma Shigenobu. ( Prime Minister ).

A Statement from his Majesty's Prime Minister:

Your small eyes must make your eyesight bad. There are no british submarines in the area around Manila. Also, it is amusing how you would want to be able to identify what sumberged sub fired upon you.
We have word from the US-Navy, that they alone operate about four dozend submarines in the area. They wouldn't even need his majesty's naval power.

Still, the Royal Naval will never let the freedom of the seas be contested by such parvenus. While we seek no war, we will defenitly not accept any naval blockade of our lines of communication! But your agressions both into China and the PI - which were quite laughable btw - are closely watched!

Day 3 of the Siege of Peking....

Japanese artillery tear into the defenders.

I would not want to be on the receiving end of that!!

Somehow missed this and just got caught up. Lots of fun. I played one scenario of WPO with my favorite opponent which was just a blast. Then we tried a campaign and lasted about 3/4 of a year before ending the game due to boredom. I would recommend any of the scenarios though. That is where the game shines.

As for finding the enemy, put very cautious commanders in some of your CLs and use them to find the enemy. That is what they were for, scouts. The game would actually be much better if it used the more refined AE surface combat system. Except in AE it is too easy for mid ocean intercepts. That would not do for a pre-radar warships.

We are both enjoying this game, as you say, its a real blast!

Thanks for the CL tip....I'm going to start using it, trying to find anything in the vastness of the Pacific is hard enough in AE, let alone in WPO!!

Well I got another horrible suprise from Historiker......

Durban, Columbia and China Maru Transports are sent to the bottom by a huge US Surface TF whilst unloading at Lingayen.
I wonder where they are recoaling?

Luckily all troops had disembarked

Next, that nasty Surface TF turns its attention to another Troopship TF disembarking in Lingayen.

Again I was lucky that all troops had disembarked, but the loss of the DD's Tsubaki and Kuwa was unpleasant.

The Transport Argun Maru was also sent to the bottom, and the Arizona Maru had to be scuttled due to 99% Flotation and Fire damage.....RATS!!

The American ships somehow evaded a 300+ minefield , and a large Surface TF that was asleep nearby

Oh well, 'cest la guerre', as they say!!
