I-25 (continued)

From tracker, it's interesting to see the ship gaining experience in a very short period during the beginning of the war, then leveling off and not budging since.

The Nagato Maru crew has gone up more steadily throughout the war. It too seems to have leveled off a bit, but gained a point recently in night experience.

Shiranui hasn't seen much combat at all, but was involved in one surface battle. No experience rise at all yet during the war. You'd think there would be a point for just sailing around for the last 11 months!

Oregon Maru

This ship has been a troop transport, with the extra added space built very early in the war, and has been in the Pacific, in the DEI, in SW OZ, and now is back in Osaka.

No experience gain here. Its cool that you can track some of the cargoes here though. On the return run to the HI it was resources from Soerabaja.

Before I get too ahead of myself or bore everyone with my obsessions, I'll get back to the war now.

subs: Sub action erupts again all around the HI and South.

Tuna gets a good batch of Mk 14s and hits a troop laden xAK Asahisan Maru with one. This is a garrison force destined to Rabaul and the SE Fleet area. Thanks to the Cribtop lifeboat strategy not many troops were lost!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Naha at 94,72

16 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

SS Tuna launches 2 torpedoes at xAK Asahisan Maru

-------------------------------------------------------------

Our CLAAs are done converting and heading to meet the KB. They were attacked in the night by Greenling near Chichi-Jima but both torps missed.

Truant launches 4 torps at DD Oite, wihch is escorting a garrison unit in 4 AKs. All torps missed.

So Pac: The KB continues to move North. Many attacks on subs and one hit listed by ASW air.

Burma: I set up a massive sweep plan for Akyab, where at least two groups of Hurris have ben hanging out. Or out on a limb. Seems a bad place to keep them, so the sweeps were intended to be followed by a raid of 90 Helens. These did not fly due to weather, presumably.

The sweeps just about cleaned up on their own. I think I've figured something out here. Our fighters achieved 3 to 1 results, knocking down 22 Hurris in A to A and ops during the day.

The Allied forces tried their own sweeps at Katha, which was lightly guarded by one 12 plane Tojo unit and a few bleeding Oscars. These defenders didn't do badly, considering the circumstances.

subs: Guardfish keeps going for mid-ocean convoys. Today it dudded on xAK Noto Maru near Chichi-Jima.
Then came up for another shot at the same ship which missed.

I-176 takes a DC hit with very minor damage after going for two SCs near Suva. Didn't thikn he had any left. I'll have to see what I can do about that.

Drum attacked ASW DD Amagiri near Aogashima. No hits.

So Pac: The KB still moving to Tulagi. Still hitting subs.

Burma: Jocke moved the kitchen sink into Akyab today to make sure he dealt roughly with any more sweeping actions. Well, in an unexpected turn Tojos and A6M3 and 3a took it to the Allied planes for a second day in a row. Even the Lightnings suffered and were not very effective.

In total the Allies lost a bunch of planes again. See below. Of special note are the 9 Lightnings lost. Banzai!

Many of the Japanese losses were ops, and thus few pilots were KIA. Only 7 on the day, plus two WIA.

Also on the day, a pilot from a previous mission makes it back alive.

Pilot Inuzuka I. is reported as having been found

Ship Losses; IJN and Allied
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

During the last month several major naval battles have resulted in sizable losses for both sides. The 3 CLs sting for the IJN side, but the Allies lose some decent CA/CL as well as a plethora of destroyers and small craft.

Some of the ships known sunk aren't on this list yet, so the Allied losses will be slightly higher.

Ship Production
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After building a large pool of both Naval and Merchant ship points, I will now turn on some fairly important projects. The Musashi will continue building, needing just under 3 more months to complete. Also several CVEs will recommence.

This brings me just above the total building for each area, but will be covered by the pool during the next few months. The merchant yards will have needs decrease over the next few months as I turn off more ships and only chose those I want/need to produce. The naval pool will be sufficient until Musashi is fitted out and sent into the fray.

Massive updates today. This puts me in real-time with the game. I feel much better. I hate getting behind and not getting a chance to write about some of the interesting behind the scenes stuff of the economy, research and production.

subs: I-176 goes for the SCs again. A waste of torps, and it misses.

So Pac: The KB reaches Suva and does some serious replenishing of airplanes.

Chiyoda-1 at CS Chiyoda takes E13A1 Jake replacements
Kirishima-1 at BB Kirishima takes E13A1 Jake replacements
Tone-2 at CA Tone takes E13A1 Jake replacements

sigint: Interesting reports today. A blip has been moving through the South Pacific, now beneath Canton Island somewhere, I think. A few times this has materialized into US CVs. I'll send some subs that way.

Also, there is activity at Auckland. There was nothing there a week ago, when we visited, but something has obviously moved back in. So probably Wellington or even Christchurch are the shelter zones for NZ when the KB is on the move.

Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at Seattle (212,52).
Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at Auckland (115,185).
Radio transmissions detected at Goa (32,29).
Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at 159,165.
Heavy Volume of Radio transmissions detected at San Francisco (218,70).
Radio transmissions detected at Queenstown (80,177).

Burma: Well, at last bombers flew. Nothing left to hit but one Lightning at Akyab. One group still did not fly. All show good moral over 98. Probably need more supply.

JPC: Trying to clear the supply paths near Kunming I certainly didn't expect this! A unit that is battle worthy after being out here cut off for several months. We were slightly low on supply, and that may have contributed to the result. I also didn't realize this was such a large unit. I'm going to have to send a division over, and do some bombing.

Our treaty doesn't include letting Chinese units run all over us!

The Aden class are workhorses. But he best part is that I'm never afraid to lose them as there are so many and they are so mediocre in quality.

subs: KXVIII is attacked near Mataram, coming or going from the DEI. Just had a thought to mine Banjowengi and put ASW TFs in each of the entrances to the area in the shallows next to some island. Worth a try. Gives the Type 95 DC ships a chance.

Stingray is attacked near Madjene.

Seal duds on a TK near Hong Kong and is given two minor hits.

So Pac: The BBs and KB are replenished by the Aden class AKEs and the Fleet HQ at Tulagi in one day. Good news. Many ships take a rest in port.

Burma: Some sweeps flew accidentally, not turned off from a few days ago. No opposition.

I've been moving out strong 70-85 exp pilots. I'm keeping 1/3 of each IJAAF fighter group with 60-80 exp pilots and the rest will be 50-55 exp rookies. Why not get them some kills while I still have a fighting chance, and save some of the best for later when I'll need them the most and they'll have better planes to fly? All Oscar pilots other than the group leader will be below 60 exp.

I'll do the same for the IJNAF LBA fighter groups soon once I have enough new pilots. I'd like to have a KB reserve of 70-80 exp guys with multiple kills. Once planes like the N1K1 George arrive (in 8-9 months) I might then have some decent pools.

Economy: Here is a small look at the economy currently.

The HI pool is at 800k. Still on track for the goal of 1000k by the end of 42.

Ship production is now aligned with needs. The Musashi will reduce pools by around 7000 production points before being finished, which will still leave a considerable pool to work with.

For merchants, once a few ships ceom off the line soon, the surplus should again grow and single ships will be added as I see fit over the near future.

How do you update tracker with the new version, without losing all the previous turn info? I think I don't understand this process well enough. Every time there's been a tracker update, I've had to start over at whichever turn I'm at and lose the previous info. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Crackaces. I know about it and I'm itching to get it going. Didn't know about the fuel burn numbers! Awesome.

I also, like SqzMyLemon, will need some help on how to install it and get my game to continue and still show the earlier info. I might be asking a lot of questions in about a week, as my school semester winds down and I look forward to summer.

Really easy to install. just unzip the one file into your tracker directory. if you go to the tracker website, they tell you exactly which one to copy over. that's all you need. no lost data.

Actually I might recommend just replacing the *.jar file thus it will not overwrite any special *.bat files or the *.dll's ..especially if you are running the Beta ..

I must ask. Especially for fuel stock. 5M in October. How you manage to do that. Other number are close to me . I am in August an i don`t even close to that. Or am i doing something wrong.
I know you not sailing lot with big ships but 5M.

What average level of resources, supplies fuel Japanese player should have in August/October 42?

China could be helping. I have extra oil/fuel centers there in Lanchow and Sian (+Urumchi which will most likely never send any oil/fuel to the rest of the world, greedy bastards). Also, Fusan was my main resource port from day 1. This cuts down a bit if you consider I only used Port Arthur for a month or so to transport resources over, and then only sparingly. I've only recently pushed hard to get fuel/oil back to the HI from the SRA. I was hoping for land transport to kick in, but I have to go hard at it now for a few months in anticipation of the US torps working.

I've also been lucky in only losing I think about 5-7 TK/AO for the war.

Other than that, not sure. Glad it looks high though! You've been having to do a lot more sailing around in the DEI I think than I have. I also try to make each voyage profitable. Every supply/troop TF going out of the HI brings back resources/fuel. I usually have a lot of transports just sitting around for lack of escorts.

I'd be happy to know this as well.

subs: There is still quite a bit happening at Suva it seems. I-176 ran into this today.

O19 continues to lurk in the Macassar strait. Asagiri spotted it today and couldn't get in for an attack.

Halibut shows up near Hachijo-jima and fires four at DMS W-21, which is escorting a troop convoy.

So Pac: Nothing special going on. The Judy recon planes are nearly ready to fly down to Noumea and have a look at Suva. I might also get them on a CV in the future.

JPC: Annoyingly I can't send a division from Kuching to take out the Chinese unit on the road, as I need a garrison there. A tank unit is rolling up at full speed from the valleys.

Burma: Nothing.

I think this ship might have been fairly heavily damaged about 3-4 weeks ago. This could mean;

A. FOW B. It was fixed really quickly, or not as damaged as I'd hoped 3. My recollection is not correct. (FOM - fog of mind)

EDIT:

Well, apparently it's either A. or B. On 28th September it took 1 torpedo and 7 shell hits of various caliber in battles with CA/CL TFs near Anatom. It's only October 20th, so either that's one tough CA or there is some mystery in names happening here.

EDIT 2:

Wait just a minute! Some of these DDs were there and were damaged as well. Maybe he's moving them out of Suva. Hmmmm. subs are all over the place here, so hopefully we'll find these ships again.

Not much happening on in forward areas today. Lots of back ground maneuvering though.

subs: More air attacks on subs. This Jake gets a hit.

E13A1 Jake from Hiei-1 attacking an Allied SS at 114,139
a O21 Class class SS is reported HIT

So Pac: Going for more dot bases in the New Hebrides. Just want to make things harder here when the invasions come.

The first D4Y1-C run over Suva flew today! I guessed correctly. He has evacuated most ships. There are still 32 listed there, mostly combat types. There are 170 (!) fighters, plus 78 bombers and 67 auxiliary.

Tomorrow I'll look at Nadi. A SCTF will move down between Noumea and Suva and to the South, hoping to catch some ships leaving to NZ. I do love recon!

JPC: Bought out the 22nd division, the first full division to leave China. There won't be many more full divisions leaving, but potentially quite a few brigades and regiments.

I'm thinking of putting it in Port Moresby. Could be a pretty big stumbling block sitting there, and also once taken, could move back and defend other areas on the back side of the Owen Stanleys. Any other opinions on a good place for an extra IJA division in defense?

Burma: Allocating troops to the Andamans now. For starters Port Blair and Car Nicobar will get 120AV garrison units. The others only smaller SNLFs and the like, but they will all get regimental sized units eventually.

KXII elects not to launch at an AKL near Lomblen. Picky, picky!

O19 is sighted by a PB near Gorontalo. No attacks.

Gurnard, a rather unfortunately named sub, launches two at TK Manei Maru near Chichi-Jima, but duds.

So Pac: Another SCTF will head down from the Marshalls to try to find them on that end as well.

Troops take Erromango.

Burma: At Katha a Lightning sweep meets surprisingly stiff resistance. The Oscars were getting mauled when the Tojos swooped in and dove all over the P-38s in the second half of the combat. Only 1 Tojo was lost, with the pilot wounded, while we lost 9 Oscars and the report states that 5 Lightnings were downed. I'll take that every day, please. 4 Oscar pilots were lost, bu the rest walked back to the field.

subs: Halibut tries for our ASW DD TF near the HI south of Tokyo.

I've had several subs move into my mine infested islands South of Tokyo, but no BOOM. Why no BOOM? There are over 100 mines at each island with fuel supplied ACMs. I am doing well in this category of sub destruction elsewhere on the map. Several hit mines within the last few months in the DEI, but not up here.

Seadragon launches 4 torpedoes at TK Tonan Maru #3. Luckily they dud. That's a BIG full tanker.

The Gurnard duds on a supply TF near Formosa.

I-176 s found out by an ASW DD TF near Suva. No attacks. Then she runs into this! Another big one leaving Suva.

So Pac: The 3 CA 5 DD TF will go for this new TF leaving Suva. We're about 15 hexes South of it now and will move East, then North to try to intercept in two days. This TF lists no detection level rise. Could it really be that stealthy with all of those Cats at Suva? Another with two CA will move down toward Wallis island, (which an SNLF Coy still holds, by the way!).

Burma: Nothing. All fighters have left all forward bases. Akyab, Chittagong, Imphal and Ledo even are all empty.

Only a bit of sub combat to report on today.

subs: Runner is attacked by ASW at Hakodate, which confused me, since there is a substantial minefield there. Then I heard the BOOM! Another one hit. It was listed as on fire heavy damage, and this far away from home, probably won't make it back.

S-28 is reported hit near Ndeni by ASW Kates. Then again by Hei's Jakes.

B5N2 Kate from Shokaku-3 attacking SS S-28 at 115,139
SS S-28 is reported HIT

E13A1 Jake from Hiei-1 attacking SS S-28 at 115,139
SS S-28 is reported HIT

A Helen IIa also got a hit report near the Chinese coast.

Ki-49-IIa Helen from 8th Sentai/A attacking SS Haddock at 81,67
SS Haddock is reported HIT

So Pac: The SCTF below Fiji seems unsighted. That can't really be true. Still no big convoy in range that our Jakes can find.

Today at Anatom:

Anatom expands airfield to size 1

This of course means fighters could be placed within range of Noumea and Koumac. Tough to guard now. I will try to sneak a hit on it with Bettys at long range from Lunga.

JPC: Sallys will move up to Kunming for the first time and see if there is something to bomb in NE India.

Burma: Nothing today.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Interesting to note that in the war the USS Runner was lost (missing) after apparently sinking two ships in the Tsugaru strait (between Honshu and Hokkaido). Just where it hit a mine today. Odd.

Not much combat, but a very interesting near miss in the South Pacific.

subs: Spearfish goes for TKs near Jolo.

So Pac: The 3 CA TF moves just South of a fat AP laden TF SE of Fiji. Our other 2 CA TF is moving in from around Wallis Island. There is another TF up there of unknown type. This could be very fun.

DEI: Banjowengi gets a defensive minefield to inhibit subs coming through that strait. Komodo will get another soon.

Burma: Ramree Island, which we have owned for some time, is now occupied with a 15AV engineer unit. It will build forts and an airfield. Forts first. I just don't want the Allies to get this base. A bigger garrison will move in soon.

All Andaman Islands are now targeted with at least a regimental sized unit. All have good forts between 3 and 5 right now.

Research: The Judy is getting closer. Looking at 2/43 right now.
Aircraft D4Y1 Judy advances R&D

A battle I was not expecting.

subs: Lots of sub activity but no hits. I might stop marking everything and comment more on trends and conclusive actions or anomalies.

So Pac: Although the Judys had been scanning Suva for days and Emilys are searching from Funafuti in addition to the Jakes on ships, didn't see these guys coming at all. Must have emerged from around Pago Pago.

Not too bad so far, and guessing from comments by Jocke in an email, the Pensacola might not have made it back home. Getting down to 2k yards with these ships, I was surprised there was not more destruction and at least a few torpedoes hitting for both sides.

The trouble is, this took us into 7 hex range of Suva! We must have reacted and moved off path.

So this was the big problem. Almost a very good day. But not quite.

One lucky hit exploded the magazine on Ashigara. Still, I feel fortunate to (so far) only be losing one CA.

All ships will slink away toward Wallis Island and the other CA TF will accompany to protect them at least somewhat. A fast CV detachment will move East out of search range and be ready to support as well. Just Shokaku, Zuikaku and Soryu with a SCTF.

Burma: Nothing.

Ashigara is the first CA lost during the game for the Japanese side. It hurts. No replacements as for the Allies.

subs: I-20 finds one of the injured, DMS Wasmuth, but can't hit it.

RO-61 finds the BB TF moving toward Suva, so they're not pursuing! That is good. Also from his message my opponent might think 2 CAs went down, and the other is in bad shape. In reality they will be fine if they can get out of harm's way here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dophin takes 3 hits near Lihir. I can't remember where this is now. The sub reports are where I learn most of the obscure dot base names!

Another new US sub, Blackfish, appears near the HI. Too many subs.

So Pac: So these ships made it quite a way out of the danger zone. The fast CV TF is moving and will be near for cover should a SCTF race out tomorrow and get too close.

Building up to retake Anatom still. I haven't seen in tracker that the forts have gone up. Either there are not many engineers there, which would surprise me, the reports are subject to FOW, or he's chosen not to build forts first. There are 6 units of about 11k troops there now. More could be flown in I'm sure.

The idea is to launch in about 1-2 weeks. Bring the KB to basically sit on the island, land a fully prepped division, brigade, an SNLF and have 3 para units ready for the attack when it goes. Bombard with Yamato and company. Then attack. I'm moving AKE to both Koumac and Noumea. Either could get taken out by 4Es, so I have to double up. One will also be at Ndeni with extra fuel.

It's a dicey operation with all that I know is in Suva, but it could be seriously demoralizing if I can take it back after him holding it for 3 months or more.

Burma: Nothing today.

So Pac: All going smoothly except DD Minegumo goes down. It was expected with the fires after the battle raging.

Burma: I sent major sweeps over Akyab today. He's basing about 160 fighters here. Seems to many not to be on a rail line. The 3 CA hanging out at Port Blair will begin a bombardment run also.

On the day the Allies lost about 39 planes, and we lost about 28. Not bad. but most of his pilots are probably safe and sound.

I forgot to post that a few days ago (25th October) was the only day that I can remember during the entire war when there were NO Japanese plane losses.

Also, around the same time, or maybe the day before, we reached 1000 pilots losses! What is about average for pilot losses in a year for Japan?

I know losses will go up considerably, but we've played 11 months, and at 1000 lost pilots, that seems okay to me considering there are 50,000 available in game (before the newer extra pilot patch anyway), right?
