One question guys...

Is your Google search now automatically localized?

I noticed since past few days that I can no longer go and use:

http://www.google.com

it automatically switches me to:

http://www.google.hr

Is it the same for you guys (i.e. are you also forced to your country's Google version instead of global English one)?

Yep. Been that way for the past three or four years.

Nope... it was working OK until just a few days ago...

In your local "Google" (for me it is "Google.hr" - for you it is "Google.nl") there was always small link on bottom right side to "Google.com - but now that is not working any longer...

Leo "Apollo11"

Oh, I see what you're saying. Hadn't thought of the google.com link...

BTW, Leo? "google.nl"? You want to MAYBE TRY THAT AGAIN???????

Mine has that same problem. Come to think of it, both my home and work computers don't run properly without coffee.

I'm sorry to hear that. It's a shame that Google provides second-rate services like that in the States.

Watched it on German television, and the commentator kept referring to Gdansk as Danzig and Lviv as Lemberg. I was under the impression that those names went out of style in 1945, but not in Germany, it seems...

Wow. Bet that cheezed of a few Poles and Ukrainians. There's going be words about that...

Sorry but that will no help at all...

I use:

MSIE 9
Safari
Chrome

This is the same in all of them... you just can't see it because you are from USA and automatically go to "google.com"...

Hi all,

No luck tonight on Euro 2012...

Spain scored from off-side and just before that there was clear penalty for Croatia - Spanish defender used both hands to pull don Croatian player...

Croatia vs. Spain: 0:1

Italy vs. Ireland: 2:0

Spain and Italy advance on...

For once I actually saw a game. I agree with you on the penalty situation, but disagree that the Spain goal was offside. Close, but clearly onside (in both calls leading to the goal). The TV expert teams (including a referee) also agreed with those points (penalty & on-side).

.. and sorry Leo (and other Croatians).

It was off-side... if the Iniesta scored all would be OK but the scorer was Jesus Navas...

No comment on the penalty situation. The ref obviously didn't see that. The camera did.

It is on-side. The player recieving the ball in the upper picture is the upper spanish player who is on-side. In the lower picture you can see that Navas is in an on-side position when the ball is played. I couldn't have posted better pictures myself to prove that the calls were absolutely correct.

ETA: Where Navas is in the first situation is irrelevant. He could have had a picnic together with the goalie as long as he is back on-side when the second situation occurs, which he is.

Per, I know the rules...

The problem is that rules only allow this if there are two separate actions - but in this case the rules can't be "bent" by miraculously calling this two different actions - it is one and same continuous action and Navas should be completely out of it - if Iniesta scored all would be OK...

Having been a football referee for roughly 13 years in my youth, I would also say that I know the rules ... Also,I made a quick check on some British sport pages that commented upon the match and found none that even used the word offside. They just say it was a brilliant play.

I say that you are wrong ... but never mind - what has happened has happened and nothing we say will change anything.

We can at least agree on our disagreement

I shocked Historiker this morning and sent him a turn. That's 4 turns in the last 3 days from me. Someone may need to send a paramedic to check on him.

I didn't know that you were the football referee - but in this case I still disagree with you per!

BTW, the off-side rules were changed (i.e. better explained) in early 2000's IIRC!

quote:

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/generic/81/42/36/lawsofthegame_2010_11_e.pdf

Offence

A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball
touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee,
involved in active play by:

• interfering with play or
• interfering with an opponent or
gaining an advantage by being in that position

The last paragraph is what is interesting here - because it can be interpreted either way - in the situation of last night it is 100% clear that scorer Navas gained advantage by being in that position...

Leo "Apollo11"

P.S.
Funny enough papers in Spain and Germany claimed the opposite (i.e. how lucky the Spain really was regarding non sanctioned penalties and goal scored)...
