Drivers around here ain't much better. Bucking to be the worst drivers. Fargo has that top spot. As flat as it is here in the valley and one can see up to 16 miles. So how do head on collisions around here? Amongst all the other stupid driving such as all the crashes into buildings.

Seattle drivers top all of you. So much rain and they still can't drive safely in it. And given how poorly our highway feeders are constructed.....one idiot = 50,000+ suffering motorists late for work.

You never drink excellent beer (even in plastic bottles) from Lithuania?

Leo "Apollo11"

P.S.
More and more beer is sold in plastic bottles everywhere - that includes Europe and even most famous beer producing countries... <SIGH>

Actually i have

I was suprised to find several excellent Lithuanian beers when i visited there back in the 2000's. call it Western Hemisphere predjidice, but i just didn't equate a little ex Soviet satilite country to be a source of good beer vs. traditional BEER countries like Ireland, England and of course Deutchland. However I declined to sample the mass stock of 2liter plastic bottles of beer in the Costco warehouse sized and styled outfits popping up all over the place.

Lithuanians do love their beer. Only country so far i've visited that had a beer tap installed next to fresh fish section on display in vats of ice.

Best beer though was my friend's grandfather's home-made moonshine beer. He kept pouring me little samples of it and making me exchange toasts with him, laughing the entire time as i caught my breath with each belt and gibbering in Lithuanian. That was a memory......what of it i can remember after about the fourth glass.

Lithuania was there for long time before the communist 75 years rule came and went...

Same is with all other countries in central / eastern Europe!

The beer in Europe is traditional drink and I don't think that better beer can be found anywhere else in the world (the commercial beer in USA I will not even comment on)...

What am I? a FB and Twitter addicted teen who can't find Saudi Arabia on a map? ahyup....I know Lithuania's been around.......I visited more Orthodox churches being restored there than any other place on earth not to mention the Hill of Crosses. where they were getting the cash for all this was beyond me.....course the great financial meltdown was years away.......

Still....I would not equate fancy beer with Luthuania anymore than i would in Milwakee. And Pilsner Urquell tastes like skunk water.

Give me a good English ale.......it even makes me like Soccer.....until the Flopping starts.

Hi all,

quote:

ORIGINAL: Terminus

Watched it on German television, and the commentator kept referring to Gdansk as Danzig and Lviv as Lemberg. I was under the impression that those names went out of style in 1945, but not in Germany, it seems...

This isn't necessary what you might initially think...

In Europe many places in different countries have old names referred even now!

For example "Vienna" in Austria is called "Bec" in Croatia and "Dunaj" in Slovenia (both Croatia and Slovenia lived in Austrian-Hungarian Empire for centuries) - at the same time "Ljubljana" in Slovenia is called "Laibach" in German and "Zagreb" in Croatian is called "Agram" in German...
