GOAL!!!!!!!

France 0 Spain 2

Late penalty

Actually, did redcoat predict a France win? I need to check.
Warspite1

Redcoat's Llama luckily predicted 1-0 - must have thought he'd got it with a minute to go.

Damn. I knew I couldn’t trust the Dally Llama. I should have stuck with my goldfish. He’s not even talking to me anymore.

Warspite1

I had a pet goldfish once; he was really clever too. One day I asked him - what is 7 + 7 - 14. He said nothing. How clever is that?

Italy has no forward players.
Someone has to told to Prandelli that you need players that scores if you want to win matches...

England played Catenaccio like Italy old style :) .
In the end a boring match IMVHO.

Well, Italy deserved it. They were the better team. They controlled the whole game.

England have done very well though. They have been the worst team in the tournament and they took Italy to a penalty shootout in the quarter-final. They can't pass the ball, they can't control the ball, they can't keep the ball. In fact, they can't play football at all. To get so far is an amazing achievement. They have been outplayed by everyone.

And well deserved

Hmm, the English almost never left the cave This is not the fluid, fresh English football. More catenaccio...

Final Italy - Portugal anyone?

I doubt it. Italy are goal-shy.

Germany v Spain final I expect. I certainly hope so. The two best teams in the tournament.

I would not be that harsh. They had a plan and could have perfectly worked. The thing is this is the maximum the Engish could do with the players they have at hand (I mean this British version of catenaccio). Chelsea has done a lot of harm methinks...

EDIT: victims of this style? Rooney and Gerrard...

Nicely summed up Mr S. We were frankly an embarrassment. Every time the same - Hart hoof upfield to an Italian (or to Rooney who loses the ball) and so the Italians come back for another attack.

Greece were slaughtered for their defensive tactics - but at least they meant to play that way. We had 30% of the possession and we didn't mean it.......

Appalling, thank god we are out because a game against Germany would be ridiculous...

We didn't TRY for a penalty shoot out. We were rubbish and only got a penalty shoot-out because Italy had one of those nights when the ball wouldn't go in.

So Joe Hart diligently studied the penalty takers tendencies...he forgot one thing however, when the players tend to kick to the left corner, that means he needs to dive to his RIGHT!!!!!

But the thing is... England were not playing for the penalty shootout. They are not a very good team. The Italians outplayed them - it is as simple as that.

Penalty shootouts are a lottery. Best way to end a game when the Italians can't score though.

I think England were quite content to take their chances in a penalty shootout for the very fact that they were outplayed for 120 minutes by a better team.

Yes, statistics are horrible I think the 5 last times the English had to shoot penalties (Euro Cups and WCs) er... they were out. 100%

The Italians also were victims of this by the way. Last Euro Cup vs Spain and WC Final 1994 (US) vs Brazil. It is really a lottery.

And no one has said it yet. Pirlo is a legend. Penalty à la Panenka! Amazing footballer.

Seaman and Shilton I had abit of hope they'd save a penalty or two..Hart was useless..he dived the same way everytime and spent more time acting the fool than concentrating...trying to be like Grobellar and failing. I mean that Pirlo penalty was a p#ss take on what he thought of Harts penalty saves. Honestly he said he spent two weeks watching the last ten years of Italian penalties and all he did was pull stupid faces. The Italian goalie on the other hand said he'd been watching naughty videos.
