I have ATG, and it is awesome. I do not have WtP but I want to buy Case Blue.

I was hoping someone could help me with some questions:

1) Is it correct that Case Blue also will not have research, production, and supply production?

2) Are there any other differences?

3) Is the tactical interface EXACTLY like ATG? To be specific, if you know how ATG units perform (ATG Strategy Guide), is that identical to Case Blue? I am thinking that a fighter is not a fighter and a tank is not a tank in Case Blue, so will there be a strategy guide or some sort of overall Excel file to analyze what are the details with each sides units?

4) How are replacements handled?

5) Are the leadership cards replenished? How does that work?

6) Is there a way to see how many cards are assigned to each leader in the editor or manual? That way when you see your opposing officer (I assume you can with proper recon or intelligence), you would know possibly what card(s) he could pull out of his butt.

Hi Balto,

Some of your questions require i write up a few pages. I have no time for that so i'll keep it short :)

1. Thats correct.

2. Yes a lot.

3. No the engine is the same but the troop types and equipment used have totally different statistics and rules.

4. Basically they arrive at your OKH/Stavka unit and are then dispersed to all subordinate units automaticly. (you can influence it by setting the replacement level)

5. Officers can play one card a turn (if they have the command points available - and those command points grow every turn based on the command rating of the officer)

6. Nope sry.

Could someone please tell me, what this means, when there is no unit production and no supply production:

•Logistical Centers to boost your supply network"

What is a logistical center? And if it isn't producing anything, what is it doing then?
Rebuild lost regiment - with what do I rebuild it?
Sorry if I sound stupid, but I do not understand this?

Create new units or sub-units

Whilst it is possible to create new units, do not expect to be able to create lots of new full strength divisions.

Using your Political Points, you can create any type of unit from a Corps HQ to a Panzer Battalion. However when you create the new unit, it arrives as an empty shell. This means it has no troops or vehicles assigned to it.
Reinforcements will hopefully arrive at the start of the next turn to fill out the unit's ranks. However given that even on the best turns you barely get a couple of hundred infantry replacements or a handful of tanks, it would take a very long time to get a new division up to strength.
Also bear in mind any replacements diverted to a new unit do not go to meet the needs of your frontline troops.

It is possible to increase specific categories of replacements e.g. infantry or Panzers by using your Political Points to play Regime Cards which allow you to request additional reinforcements from OKW.

So it is not really practical to create whole new divisions. However more useful is the ability to replace destroyed regiments from within a division. These also arrive as an empty shell but because they are smaller, they are easier to build up to strength.

Logisitical Centers

Logisitical centers relate to how supply is distributed in the game. Each hex has an action point cost for supply to cross it. For example this cost is low for road and rail and high for mountains and rivers.

Big urban centers act as organisational hubs in this game. Bigger towns are presumed to have the infrastructure, rail hubs, storage facilities, housing, communication lines and nodes, and educated civilian population to give a huge boost to the logistical efforts of your side.

Minor towns give a 10 supply movement AP bonus, medium towns give a 20 supply movement AP bonus and a major town gives a 50 supply movement AP bonus.

When a town changes hands its structural points (and thus is ability to give the logistical bonus explained above) are reduced to 0. It will need 5 – 10 turns to recuperate and be fully effective again as a logistical center.

@Mark,

Excellent answers. Only thing I can add is that the player can set a specific unit of HQ (and thus all subordinate units of that HQ) to get priority in receiving replacements. If you only set a few units to 'priority' you will be assured they'll get the maximum number of replacements troops they can handle. But even then it can take up to a month for a unit build up from scratch to be fully operational.

As stated, I have ATG and not Decisive Campaigns.

As I read the WtP I see several posts asking what HitPoints are and why they are not anywhere to be seen. At first I thought to myself that those people are not very observant because (based on my experience with ATG) you just click on the unit and there are all of the wonderful details (Combat Statistics, etc.., )

After seeing the Hitpoint question several times, I became curious and I started looking at Barthhearts AAR for WtP. In his post 4, he has what looks like a detail screen. This does not have have the details that were readily available in ATG, it was missing Hitpoints and the myriad of other important details that were in ATG.

My question is, are the Unit details that were in the wonderful ATG still available in Decisive Campaigns? Or are the details in DC just that tiny bit of info from Barthhearts AAR post #4 and you never really understand what is under the hood?

I feel like I have the plague when I bring up ATG in this forum.

I had to contact individual Matrix members to research what I just discovered.

Am I the only one that thought this was the same engine as ATG except for production and research?

I hope I do not get flamed for this because I know DC has been out for a while and it is popular, but why in the heck did Vic abandon the ATG engine which is most likely the best on the planet?

My stupidity sounded kind of cool, didn't it? Think about it, you have a historically accurate game (like DC) that has predetermined unit compositions (like DC), coupled with the ATG's mega bad-ass engine with no worries about research and supply!!

If the reply is, "well maybe you could create a scenario like that," my response is that I am not smart enough. I am not lazy, I am just not very smart.

Thanks for reading. I will get Case Blue and enjoy the new Vic-system.

I think if you check the thread entitled 'what's up' in the AT forum, you will see that Vic is planning more patches for ATG. This (to me) would indicate that he has not abandoned ATG. This can only be good news for those of us that like what he's done so far.

The Decisive Campaigns series is having your cake and eating it as far as I'm concerned.

PS I'm not too smart either which is why I am grateful, not only to Vic, but to all those scenario designers and modders that keep Advanced Tactics in all its guises ticking along nicely.

I re-read my post. I can see how you can take that as me saying Vic has abandoned ATG. I am sorry, I did not mean that.

I meant that to say that I thought DC was the ATG engine (which is the best) without the supply and research.

No matter, I am definitely getting DC Case Blue tomorrow.
