I like the idea to move the CVs to just southeast of Rossel Island, Say 108,140. It is one days move. Plan on setting 102,135 your patrol hex next turn with a reaction of 3, with searches from 300-60 at range 6. If that doesn't give any results on the baby CVs move the patrol hex another hex north. Trying to keep an escape route open. Be ready to hit and pull back out of 20 hex range of Rabaul which is still one days move from here.

This is just my opinion. With the KB elsewhere, we have an opportunity to bag some of his small carriers. Not to mention some CAs also. He doesn't get any more of them!

Put the Devastators at max range (5). Keep the F4Fs and SBDs at 6. If this was a Japanese operation I would say "BANZAI!", but it isn't so just go kick some a$$!

Who knows.. they could still come back to the area...

We were really hoping to catch them with their pants down and take a carrier, or a heavy cruiser...

I believe Mike mentioned they don't get any more CAs..

Were depleting P40s so fast its not even funny.

NoPac
The only two subs in the theater are now on their way to Japanese home waters. Kodiak and DHarbor are still building. Nothing else to report.

CenPac
Hawaii continues to train its airmen. XMas is receiving a coastal AA at the moment with enemy sub present. Mainly just have PAs at all islands, and running an AK or AKL of supply to each island.

[B]SoPacSWPac
Pago Pago should build to level 2 AF this turn. Supply, troops, and fuel are starting to accumulate there. Enemy sub is very active in the area. Tahiti is growing in addition to Pago Pago...however, it is serving as more of a rear area base. Old USN BBs are currently in port here.

Enemy CVL force moved out of the Solomon Sea. Our CVs are still undetected and will return to a few hezes south of original position. SBD sightings from their subs could have tipped them off. Moved a few subs around.

Philippines
Fights resting at Cebu while waiting to pounce on some more unescorted bombers. Manila to no longer bombard, while Clark will continue....looks like theyre moving some forces out of Clark and some in...we have had good success with bombarding with just ART every turn since theyve shown up. Waiting a few more turns, and then I will make a run with the remaing four ships due east...

Wonder if that CVL force was bait, or in fact decided to turn back... oh well..

Pretty quiet..

North Pacific
Nothing major to report here. I am waiting on longer legged destroyers to form a Northern Home Isl raiding task force with the current Omaha class CL at Dutch Harbor. Two raiding subs are heading to Hokkaido currently. I am not expecting too much with the dud rate but, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Fuel is in route to Dutch. Dutch, Kodiak, and Anchorage continue to expand in all areas.

Pago Pago and Solomons area
An AO in Pago Pago took a torp last turn, but is still afloat.. won't send her back after she is done unloading. I created a replenishment TF for the carriers out of Pago Pago. It will team up with the one currently refueling in Auz. That will be 30k of fuel for the carriers, and the current 8k one will take over for the Chester and Northampton surface forces currently working with the carriers. Harvey also has a small oiler in the area for his ships. Jap sub hit a mine at XMas Isl. It hasn't shown up as sunk, but I would guess it has major damage. It could be on the sunken ships list, I just didn't check it this turn. What is the group's norm for escorting oilers..? Especially early, as we want don't have very many ships to go around right off the bat. I am just using some older DDs, AMs, PGs, or DMSs... Depending on what is present at that location, it is one escort per oiler. I am beginning to wonder how much we need to build up Tahiti....it has over 100 naval support, pathetic AV, no fighters, but our old BBs are stationed there.... Pago Pago has two fighter groups, 225 AV, one group of Vindicators (yay..), and zip for Naval support (can't remember what is in route for Naval Support). Most of the support ships are back at Tahiti for the time being... that’s a long route to the front. However, it is far safer back there then it is beyond Suva/Pago Pago. Oh well. Still trying to keep tabs on the Jap CVL/CVE force that was headed north back out of Rabaul. There is now a force in that same area that shows CAs, as well as one NW of Ocean Isl. I did move the PAs out of there, just in case it is an invasion force. I moved the carriers 7 hexes or so SE of Tulagi...Swapped out some SBoat commanders for some very aggressive commanders, as SBoats are by far the USN best boats prior to the dud rate drop IMHO. Swapped a fleet boat as well, as the first commander was afraid of his own shadow.

Philipinnes
Its pretty quiet here. Japan keeps bombing the AF at Manila to take out supply but, other than that, just a few bombardments here and there. I like our position for the time being there, knowing the ultimate outcome. For those interested, the remaining four fighters are at Cebu on RnR until the right opportunity arises to tackle a few unescorted bombers like two turns ago. The B17s flew to Calcutta weeks ago, after a few bombings of Jap ground troops. The Langley is still two weeks away from being comfortable to move. That will make a total of four or five ships left to move all at once, and that is it for the area. We took a turn off of bombarding Clark... up to 25 disruption...nothing major.

Kansas
Hot, dry, windy

Wife in Kansas
Hot, complaining, bitchy.

Tautog put a torp in Zuikaku. Chengchow was capture by a big Jap assault. A big allied attack at Pegu resulted in the Japs being pushed back with casualties at 557 vs 66 to the Allies. Not bad turn at all. A lot of big air raids by Japan.

My little counterattack was successful. Making sure that the japanese do commit forces considering we have not done so as it is an economy of force theater. If we can get paras commited there, it it means less paras elsewhere. I fear that I have no commited enough to the defense of Pt Blair.

Still can't get my Brit fighters to fly escort. Need to reposition the air HQ out of Rangooon now that the rail line is open again.......

Still fairly quiet, but they're coming in full force for Aus as we speak.

They have been prepping for Darwin according to intel all along. The path of the ships would suggest something further west right now. I am wondering if they're capturing all of those bases along the north (game wise) coast to provide air cover on their flank as they land at Darwin... or they could just be taking a different route. SW then SE to Darwin. From the looks of it, Harvey has two Banshee units prepped and ready for a naval attack this turn with full fighter escort. Looking forward to see how he does.

Mike and I were talking on the phone yesterday afternoon, and we think it is so cool to watch an area you have no control over and cheer your partner on. Any time something is happening in the DEI, all we can do is cheer on Harvey from the stands. Pretty cool!

NoPac
Pretty quiet. The two subs are now on patrol around Hokkaido, and my destroyer squadron is still at Dutch Harbor, where it will remain for longer legged destroyers. 11k or so supplies in route to Anchorage/Kodiak area. Kodiak, Anchorage, and Dutch are all maxing. These will be our base of operations into Hokkaido an all of the northerly islands when we begin our counterattack. Adak will also be a forward sub base when it is safe enough to put an AS in port, and has a BF, Inf LCU, and CD/AA unit.

West Coast
The hoarding of ships on the West Coast at LA/SF/SD is continuing, which will then help move the Americal units to Noumea when escorts arrive. Pilot training continues, and other than that, not much else to report. There are Jap subs in the LA/SD area, and the proper ships are hunting them down as we speak.

Hawaii
Moved the lone attack bomber group back to Hawaii for sub patrol.. they're progressing nicely... around 40s to 50s on ASW... break them up, split them into three units, and send them south. Trasports planes were finally sent to SoPac, where they continue their transport training. Midway now has an AS, and the other AS from Manila will arrive in Pearl shortly. Midway could use another LCU or Marine Def Battalion...so I can start using it as a forward sub base. However, it is not a level 3 port yet. Does that mean the AS will not function until it reaches a lvl 3 port? I forget without consulting the manual, or Alfred.

SoPac
Carriers are still between Louganville and Tulagi. All three carriers (Saratoga, Enterprise, and Lexington) are in good shape, air groups are high in morale, and just waiting for the right opportunity. A surface force of 3 or so cruisers and 8 or so destroyers is a hex between them and the furthest enemy base, and will remain so until further notice. Moved a few subs around to close off all exit/entry points in the Bismark Sea. I WANT to find that CV force, and figure out it's makeup. I still wouldn't mind it coming into the Solomons, and introduce it to Admiral Halsey. Based on the information a handful of turns ago, it is Mini KB or a make up of the smaller CVs. I have also dropped off two seaplane tenders at Efate with 200 supply for 12 float planes.. now we have PA coverage over the entire area, and I can stand down the CV float and dive bomber planes from search. I fear that was tipping the Japs off, having their ships/subs spotted by Dauntless bombers. That only means one thing. Carriers. Pago Pago is swelling very fast, and has a crap pot full of engineers to crank up the base. 250+ av now, FA, fighter planes, and dive bombers. Tahiti just received 2 port service units. Needs to beef up faster, and get some fighter cover with surface ships (CAs/DDs) to help protect the rear anchorage of the battlewagons until we need them.

New Z
Resources being loaded here and there. A few units on patrol while the rest train. Not much else to report.

Philippines
Fighters (all 3 or so) resting at Cebu.. waiting for another unescorted bomber raid. Clark has 650 or so AV.. pretty good morale and fatigue.. but supplies are around 4k at the base, in addition to the unit supply. Manila is 850+ with the same unit make up and supply situation. Bataan is now at level 3 forts with 15k supply.. wishing we (me) stashed more supply there from day one, but I dropped the ball on that one. Still waiting on Langely and a AP, then the remaning 4 ships will head out for Pearl/Midway. A few subs headed past Formosa to SW Japan, and the rest north of Borneo hoping to put a fish in a tanker full of oil. Nothing yet.

China
Wenchow fell. I am handling this area for Mike while he is away for a week or so. It is as if he never left. I haven't touched a thing He also runs the West Coast and our logistics in that area. Doing an outstanding job if I do say so.

I will let Harvey update you on the DEI, Aus, Burma, and India if he wishes.

Turn replay has arrived for this turn. Hartwig mentioned a good day for the allies. I wonder if a sub of mine around Darwin got lucky, and Harvey's bombs hit home!!

Here are the combat results from last turn.

Hey Schani!

I missed your call the other night...was busy with kiddos. I'll buzz you Friday night.

The Yorktown is currently SE of Pearl en route to Sydney via Thahiti/Pago Pago for fuel. She will pick up the rest of her CA/CL/DDs that are currently in Sydney. This will give her 10-15 ships total. She has an old Omaha class CL with her currently, and 5-6 old destroyers. Airgroups are training, and Kingfishers from the Omaha class CL are on ASW duty in front of the fleet.

It really is nice to have an intact Pacific Fleet to do whatever the hell you want with since they chose a Manila port strike on Dec 7. We have numerous CAs/CLs/DDs and all support ships at our full disposal. Of course, the old BBs will sit at Tahiti for some time until we need them to start blasting islands en route to Tokyo.

Wow! No Pearl Harbor attack. That is real nice, since Manila is going to slammed anyway. Now your in a real good position to cause some mischief.

Marc-

I remember someone saying Hartwig was opposed to a Manila strike in some earlier postings prior to this game, and he is handling everything outside of logistics, industry, and training, so the Manila strike was his idea I am guessing. Interesting. Which ever location the port strike happens to be at, it still sucks. All of those subs and planes would be nice to have in the Philippines, but we don't have them. It is what it is.

GJ-

It is a lot of fun to discuss everything amonst team members. I haven't talked to Harvey on the phone, just Mike. Not that I dont want to, just haven't.

We also fly around in our own personal jets, have beautiful interns, and dine on fine cheeses and wine, but we mainly just play AE together. Now that you have ventured over to our AAR, it will now EXPLODE with posts and popularity. How are the legalities of Italy treating you?

Dont get me wrong, I really enjoy my in laws. I really do. However, why do we have to go someplace (cough) see them.. ever other weekend. We have our own house that has chores and what not. What is wrong with just having a weekend to do nothing? Sit around, eat, watch tv, mow, play games.. just be lazy. I guess thats not good enough. I remember when we first moved, we went for a stretch of 6 months of not having 2 back to back weekends of not going somewhere...I guess she doesn't understand what a work week does to a person...you need to weekend to relax, and catch up on the honey do lists.
