Bundeswehr-Video about the Ju 88 that is slavaged off Rügen.

You might notice that some have their names hidden... - well that's necessary in Germany...

Stay safe, and indoors!

Only funnel clouds. It passed just north of town. A few spotty thunderstorms, some hail and wind up and down the valley. Nothing really in town.
A nice diversion at the end of the day.

Leaving now for a 600 miles long night drive up north in the country. Puppies, here I come!

See you tomorrow, THREAD brothers.

Aren't you supposed to only make that drive to your folks' place in some God-awful blizzard?

Yup. I tried waiting for one of the normal July blizzards, but finally lost patience and went anyway.

Swedish Autobahnen, a German's nightmare!
Huge roads, mostly in perfect shape, mostly totally straight and almost no car on them - but you have to drive 120 or 130 km/h... I drove my parent's BMW a few years ago, when we went to my sister's wedding near Linköping. Hundreds of km on the road, feeling neutered...
That's like when I drove from Kentucky through WV to the coast. Emtpy roads, but ze German hat to stay at 75/70 mph. That's the only thing I hate about the US in general, I think...

It should be recognized as a human right to drive as fast as you want on an empty Autobahn!

Agreed. That's why I normally drive in the night. Have never seen a police car at night, and I know where the speed cameras are ...

I was in sweden at least 6 times, and I was propably on the roads a few thousand kms - but I've only seen police twice. Sometimes I believed you don't have any at all.

Hey Jeff:

USDA corn forecast (particularly for lower MW) is that 30-33% is "poor or very poor" crop this year. Tyson and Pilgrims' Pride have been getting pole-axed.

In Minnesota, 77% is rated as "good-excellent". Seems like we're it in terms of problem-free production this year. Sorry dude.

We got another series of thunderstorms developing last night. 1-1.5" from 3am-6am. Hope y'all to the south (read: everyone) get some badly needed rain too.

Andre-

Yeah, it isn't looking to wornderful in the dryland areas of Kansas. Our irrigated doesn't look to bad at all. We did get a 2 in rain Monday, but it was about 1-2 weeks too late. The Milo will be great, but the dry land corn and beans are suffering.

You guys have had some very timely rains. It will be a great year to be a Minnesota farmer.

It still sounds like they're over doing how bad it is this year. The majority of people you talk to say the entire US corn crop is 70% G-E. That means $7.50 corn isn't going to last very long. Can you say bubble?

Yesterdays storms were pretty scattered. A few funnel clouds, wind and hail depending were you were. Not much in town. Crops still looking good. Wheat harvest has begun. One month ahead of the normal harvest.
Solar flare from the sun may hit the earth at around midnight. So I'll be looking to the north tonight. As far as the northern lights go ,the last couple of siolars flares were pretty much busts.

Yep. In the space of a week we went from having nowhere and no time scale on getting a house to being moved in.

My parents had a "thing" for Sweden, so I was dragged along quite often.
But as an adult, I don't voluntarily get into a country where the ladies think I'm a boring native and the beer is expensive!

And that is going to be it for a few days. We could use about an inch a week. At least we are getting some rain. I hope things change down there. I see drought conditions a quite severe.

To borrow a phrase from PO'B, wish me joy guys.

I got some very good news yesterday. Earlier in the week I had gone to speak to my boss to give her my notice. Since our regional office in CA is in SF I had thought that my time with the company was over. I was very surprised when her response was to give her a little time to square things away with her powers that be.

Yesterday I got the final word. Not only will they let me take a 2 month leave of absence, but will also let me work from home in LA. We are ecstatic about it since it eliminates 50% of our income worries and provides a work scenario I have always dreamed of.
