Ok, to start we are on page 50:

"Normal generals don’t give a combat bonus, but 1-star and 2-star generals do. The staff
bonus is then increased by either 20% or 40%. For example, a German HQ with 40
XP Staff and a 2-star general get a 65% bonus by staff, but that figure is increased by
40% due to the excellent general commanding them, resulting in a total combat bonus
of 91%."

I would have written that 1-star generals give a bonus of 20% & 2-star generals give a bonus of 40% but no matter. The statement that a 40 XP Staff with a 2-Star general gets a 65% bonus by staff is confusing. Does this not mean that a 40 XP Staff gives a bonus of 65% then the 2-Star general gives an additional bonus of 40%? Isn't 65+40=105 & not 91 as the example says the resulting percent is? What is a 'normal general'? I am assuming this is a general without a star or 0-Star general.

The manual is replete with confusing exposition like this. I don't think I am nit-picking here. Manuals with exposition like this drive me to distraction. 'My kingdom for an editor, my kingdom for an editor'... (to paraphrase the Bard).

Love the game btw.

I took it to mean 40 percent of 65 is added to make 91 percent bonus. Not worked it out myself though.

I agree that the manual is not great. It's been a disappointment, especially as I had no prior familiarity with this game system and had no other resource to look to for enlightenment. I complained about it at the time and I'm glad that the final version of the manual showed some improvements. I don't know Vic but I don't think English is his first language, and a lot of allowance should be made for that, but I think the real onus should be not on Vic but on Matrix to ensure that a quality, comprehensive manual is published. With simpler games like Panzer Corps the manual is not a big deal, but DCCB has great depth and merits a manual of corresponding quality.

Best,

Tim

Hi,

When in-game right click on the percentage under the picture of a corps (or Soviet Army) level officer. It gives a detailed calculation of the combat bonus build up.

As a side note: Keep in mind that officers in army level (or soviet front) level HQs dont excert combat bonus.

Best,
Vic

Sorry, where you can read if a General is zero, one or two star?

@Blind Sniper,

Its actually a line of info that only applies to Warsaw To Paris. In Case Blue the stars-system has been dropped. Ignore the stars, just look at the command rating.

Command Rating 1 : 0% combat mod
Command Rating 2 : 10% combat mod
Command Rating 3 : 20% combat mod
Command Rating 4 : 30% combat mod
(some special officers have an extra +10% combat mod, check the officer popup windows for exact combat mod of an officer)

I am adding this to the manual errata i am compiling. Thanks for catching this.

Thanks, now I understand how it works.

I don't know if someone has already point out but on page 52 the stack limit for the attacker is wrong (typo), for 5 sides it says 500 but should be 250.

The red circle show the combat rating, is it correct?

Vic

The +1 is how many Command Points you earn each turn. The combat ratings (officer skill) is the COM = 0% and MOR = 0%. Better officers have better numbers.

If this officer is an Army officer, no matter what the COM and MOR are, it's effect is zero. Only the Corp Officer's get to take advantage of that bonus (this guy has none). Thus Manstein's tactical skill is useless as long as he stays an army Commander.

I am pretty sure that is how that works.

Can you explain this a little better? Is the number in the circled button above the Command Rating and the plus sign an indication of the extra bonus or is the nuber that amount of CP gained each turn (as other have suggested) and the plus sign just a graphic to show this is added each turn?
