ORIGINAL: Apollo11 Hi all, He was 4th in the last (Medal) race and retained overall 5th position <SIGH>... the British sailor won the gold... Leo "Apollo11" From John 08/05/12 6:21 pm (GMT) quote:
ORIGINAL: Leo, I’m so sorry. I watched the Finn medal race because I needed to see how they would do it. There was so much tactical covering and gassing going on. There was no way Lobert or Gaspic could have interfered with the Ainsley/Christensen show no matter how they finished, so there was this giant hole for others to run through. Unfortunately, Gaspic chose to cover Posthma, and did a damn good job of it, but they went too far right on the second weather leg, and missed the left shift that lifted Lobert and Slater just that little bit farther up the ladder. Gaspic was first at the first weather mark, and I was jazzed, and then he took the high line to cover Slater and Lobert squirted by, low. And then it was the last beat, and Lobert and Posthma split and Gaspic covered Posthma, and then the shift happened and that was it. A great competitor, and one hell of a good sailer. Was wishing, very hard, he could get a medal, but the sailing gods weren’t cooperating. Nevertheless, ain’t Croation but wish him the best. If I was only 40 years younger, knowing what I do now. Would enjoy trying to whack his young butt and having a couple with him at the Yacht Club post-race ‘liars club’. He has done you proud, Leo. May not have got a medal this time around, but that's boat racing. Rest assured, people know who he is.
