No offense to the Danes but I'm more interested in the Dutch field hockey team.

I like the women's beach volleyball. It's a tough sport though. I've only been watching for 10 minutes and already there is a wrist injury.

I'm hoping with some ice and ibuprofen I will be OK in a couple of days.

This is supposed to be an AAR, right? I didn't think that kind of action was included.

That would be more damaging to Mandrake's rep than the colon shots.

Is this a PBEM? I just hope he's not doing it while driving. He might be pulled over in several states here.

I think the idea is to hire local sampans or take a ferry to the mainland, once ashore. We, therefore, need to be prepared to handle substantial enemy forces.

Not so much of a draft problem then. I once knew a guy that served in Grenada. That's about the same though.

Ramree Isrand is barely an isrand. Even the biggest esutuarial channels dividing it from the mainland are less than 500 ft across. I shudder to think what a malaria and croc hell-hole it was in 1945(a).

We even used to cite that event as an indefensible example of bourgeois tastelesness when arguing the moral superiority of Marxism with our parents when we were High School students in Pacific Palisades in 1968.

Dude, things must have changed in Pali between 1968 and my time at Pali high in the mid-80s! We tended to argue about important things: BMW vs. Mercedes; Maui 'wowie' vs. Humboldt Gold, etc.

I graduated Pali in Winter 1970 (The Aquarians); how 'bout you?

Of course, back then we had a draft with a one-way ticket to some nice big war-games our parents had arranged in SE Asia upon graduation if you didn't head off to college or end up with a high draft lottery number (my best friend got #365, which was good but not perfect; 1970 was a leap year, after all...)

Aquarians? Hippies. By Summer 1986, we were the Dolphins.

Not so much of a draft problem then. I once knew a guy that served in Grenada. That's about the same though.

No, dude, I'm talking about Pali class nicknames---Pali itself was always the Dolphins, even when it opened in 1965, but each graduating class had to select it's own identifying name. In winter 1970, it was a close vote: 78 for Aquarians, 68 for Bacchanalians (hey---that was my vote!), 34 for "Stoned Dopers." The Age of Aquarius hippies narrowly won. See; 15 years later things didn't change much...

Me---I served in the Grenada invasion too as Navy Doc running a surgical support team---probably the only other Pali grad who did.

About that time Jay Schroeder was playing High School football there; he later led the Redskins and ultimately the Raiders in the NFL, all the way to the 1990 AFC Championsip game as starting NFL QB. Lotsa interesting grads from that High School over the years. (Don't even ask about Jennifer Bogart and her affair with the MASH actor Elliot Gould during her High School career when I was there...)

A word of advice - don't take a ride with any Sampan operators wearing cloaks and calling themselves "Caron" ....

As I recall from history ... Its the IJ are the ones that needs "Crocodile Dundee " .. It was the IJ defenders that realized that more LYB's would be eaten in those marshlands/swamps than killed by lead missles and concussion ...

As Rord Admirar Fabertong is off on a Budhist retreat..or is it Bokonism..oh well, doesn't matter. The point is there is a seam in the Empire's command apparatus. I think the transports are headed for Manado and it looks like the place is undergarrisoned. Ditto Ternate.

The USMC Para Bn at Namlea will drop on Manado and the 503rd at Boela will drop on Ternate. There is a RCT aboard transports to exploit if either is captured. Recon is not very good so this may not work.

Correct, but that was 1945(a) this is 1943(c). Question of learning from the past, erm i mean from the future. What if no LYB goes there but instead Spriors pongoos. Crocs dont differentiate, spam or no spam.

I see you're from Naughtyham, Sprior. I couldn't agree with you more. Here in the states corned beef and cabbage is the main staple on St. Pattie's Day. We export all our spam to Canada, they love it!
