The CV on the counter is just an estimate. Also, the number rounds down, so what may seem like an advantage of 7 to 1 may really be 7 to 1.9.

True true, and I guess this is all me, but it still annoys the daylight out of me when it is as inaccurate as I find it, but I'm learning to live with it, by just thinking that
1-3 = 1
4-8 = 2
8-10 = 3
11-12 = 4
12-15 = 5
16-19 = 6
20+ = 7

Turn 14

Disclaimer
Forgot to take a screenie this turn.

Overall
Our attacks are doing a little better all of a sudden, and we make two small pockets once more. One of which will be borken, but still, forces the enemy to move units out of forts. A real worry is that the arms bleed noticed last turn is continuing. All AA units are now set to max 50% TOE, as are all divisions at less than 65% current TOE.

USSR units in pockets at the start of turn
7.

USSR units in pockets at the end of turn
11, of which 4 will escape.

Losses
USSR : 206.000 troops, 3.170 guns, 115 AFVs, 537 AC.
Axis : 57.000 troops, 590 guns, 144 AFVs, 174 AC.

USSR units destroyed
6 rifle divisions, 1 naval rifle brigade, 1 PVO AA regiment, 2 fortified zones.

German pools
Manpower : 704 (-583)
Vehicles : 164.114 (+126)
Armaments : 36.687 (- 27.298)
Hiwi : 110.539 +(10.835)

Turn 15

Overall
We keep taking hexes all along the front, but the pace is slow. Last turn we also made a small mistake and moved a Rumanian unit across a river, hence inviting the first USSR attack of the war, which resulted in a retreat. Our 116 attacks gave a result of 21 helds, 1 scouted, 79 retreats, 10 routs, 1 shatter and 4 surrenders.
The big surprise this turn was to find Sevastopol void of defenders, something that means that 80% of the Kerch peninsula is now in our hands.

USSR units in pockets at the start of turn
7.

USSR units in pockets at the end of turn
4. 10 if I am correct in assuming that Budenovka which lacks a port is NOT a route the enemy can rout away from.

Losses
USSR : 201.000 troops, 2.799 guns, 359 AFVs, 393 AC.
Axis : 66.000 troops, 767 guns, 163 AFVs, 116 AC.

Men killed/captured/disabled in total so far
USSR : 312.000/1.330.000/698.000
Axis : 170.000/2.000/282.000

USSR units destroyed
7 rifle divisions and 1 AA battalion.

German pools
Manpower : 1.185 (+481)
Vehicle : 164.470 (+356)
Armaments : 23.441 (-13.246)
Hiwi : 116.365 (+5.826)

Another 15 Infantry Divisions have been placed at 50% max TOE. The largest arms production seems to be the artillery pieces in the infantry divisions, pioneer squads and support.

congratulations. you are promoted to generalfeldmarschall for capturing sevastopol even before manstein.

2 turns remaining till mud. i would start deliberate attacks along the entire front with good odds to simply kill russian moral and men. no time remaining to build pockets. just attack and kill them in a good killratio.

So mud is still arriving at a fixed time with random weather? But thanks for the heads up!

Considering my luck with dice rolls it looks like we are in for
Blizzard from next turn untill March 42 in the north;
Blizzard from November untill March 42 in the centre;
Blizzard from December untill March 42 in the south;
followed by 2 months of mud in each zone

Turn 16

Overall
Did as suggested by Bigbaba and used mostly deliberate attacks this turn, so number of attacks are down somewhat. With weather about to turn foul, it seems Gorlovka and Makeevka are the last USSR cities to fall this season (with the exception of Stalino which will fall next turn). The arms bleed continues, something that is VERY worrying, almost as much as the upcoming Blizzard...
Our 85 attacks gained 5 helds, 57 retreats, 14 routs, 4 shatters, 5 surrenders.

USSR units in pockets at the start of turn
10. I was correct about Budenovka.

USSR units in pockets at the end of turn
2.

Losses
USSR : 218.000 troops (or 78.000 short of the USSR reinforcement number...), 3.025 guns, 402 AFVs, 419 AC.
Axis : 52.000 troops, 462 guns, 103 AFVs, 77 AC.

USSR units destroyed
7 rifle divisions, 2 mountain divisions, 2 tank brigades, 1 army artillery regiment, 3 corps artillery regiment, 1 artillery regiment RVGK, 1 howitzer regiment, 1 PVO AA regiment.

German pools
Manpower : 705 (-480)
Vehicles : 165.552 (+1.082)
Armaments : 10.326 (-13.115) Will be empty next turn
Hiwi : 121.714 (+5.349)

Goody, out of arms even sooner in this game than the last one...

now that was a good turn. more then 4:1 ratio in loses in your favour.

if you can not pocket em, beat the hell out of em.

realy, grinding seems to be a good new aspect of the game when your opponent do not let you pocket him.

yopu should do the same in any snow turn you get untill december.

Turn 17

Overall
The USSR makes another attack, scoring another retreat this turn. We do mostly deliberate attacks, but looking at what is draining my armaments pool it seems I better run west soon.
Nevertheless we make 84 attacks, scoring 9 helds, 60 retreats, 12 routs, 1 shatter and 2 surrenders. Mud is appearing as well, the eastern most zone is now showing mud, so about time to play Sir Robin...

USSR units in pockets at the start of turn
2.

USSR units in pockets at the end of turn
0.

Losses
USSR : 156.000 troops, 2.561 guns, 480 AFVs, 445 AC.
Axis : 53.000 troops, 601 guns, 114 AFVs, 106 AC.

USSR units destroyed
2 rifle divisions, 1 tank brigade, 1 PVO AA regiment, 1 sapper regiment

German pools
Manpower : 708 (+3)
Vehicle : 167.630 (+2.078)
Armaments : 4.430 (-5.896)
Hiwi : 128.126 (+6.412)

Main armaments sink
1. Rifle Sqds at 14.184 points
2. Cavalry Sqds at 8.125 points
3. 37mm AT gun at 6.383 points.
So, basically I need to pull all my inf and cavs out of the fighting. That kinda leaves a handful of panzer divisions to hold the entire front, but they too have some rifle squads, so guess I better run back to Poland to rebuild or something .

Yeah found it when doing the previous turn. Thx. That allowed me to see where I am bleeding arms. Not a good read imo.
But a side Q, what do people do with the Cav units. I have been using them on the line, but it seems that is a very bad diea due to their cost. So do people just keep them for anti-partisan duty, disband them or what?

Turn 18

Overall
Snow?! OKH PROMISED the war would be over by winter
A few decisisions have been made;
1. Most of the Rumanians have gone home. They are utter useless in normal conditions, in Blizzard they are USSR guard units waiting to happen.
2. German CAVs will from now on be used for parades in Berlin and for diggin defences.
3. The first Panzer Corps have been railed back to Germany
4. We will keep attacking a few more turns, this is to try to force the USSR a few more hexes back, and make their advance in Blizzard that much longer, but we will soon have to start pulling back.
We make 91 attacks this turn, scoring 2 helds, 1 scouted, 65 retreats, 22 routs and 1 shatter. The USSR just stands there looking at us with their 1CV units.

Losses
USSR : 104.000 troops (or about 165.000 shy of their reinforcement rate), 1.830 guns, 302 AFVs, 308 AC.
Axis : 45.000 troops, 381 guns, 65 AFVs, 45 AC.

USSR units destroyed
2 sapper regiments

German pools
Manpower : 635 (-73)
Vehicle : 166.021 (-1.609)
Armaments : 0 (-4.430)
Hiwi : 129.894 (+1.768)
That was that for armaments...

Axis minors' armaments
Finland : 13.005
Italy : 2.373 (even Mussolini is doing better than us )
Rumania : 0 (hey we are on par with Rumania )
Hungary : 8.422

"industry" captured
Port : 77
Railroad : 45
Manpower : 1.179
Heavy Industry : 14
Oil : 2
Fuel : 3
Resources : 42

low tank numbers but this tanks are obsolate ones and will be reploaced by better PZ III and PZ IV models.

if anythinhg goes the right way you simply do not need half of your panzer korps in the blizzard phase. giving up space and preparing a level 2 fort line in the rear for february to make a stand there should do it.

the bad thing ist that you do not have that much space to give up.

Turn 19

Overall
Mud all across, so nothing much happens. We make 20 attacks, scoring 3 helds, 9 retreats and 8 routs. More Rumanians have arrived back home where they will spend the winter digging defences in lack of anything else to do.

Losses
USSR : 64.000 troops, 736 guns, 19 AFVs, 170 AC.
Axis : 34.000 troops, 184 guns, 59 AFVs, 25 AC.

German pools

Turn 20

Overall
Since our troops have not been reading this AAR and still believe in a victory, we keep attacking
The goal now is not so much to gain territory as it is to;
a) Keep the USSR OOb as low as possible (yes, I know I am not killing off as many troops as there are USSR reinforcements, but still every bit helps).
b) To add defeats to the USSR units so that getting them to guard status becomes all that much harder.
The weather is snow, lvl 1 frozen over all zones save the western one, which still has mud.
62 attacks this turn gave the result of 1 held, 39 retreats, 21 routs and 1 shatter. A good turn! The question now has to be, how long do I keep attacking, and when do I start to pull back. I think at lvl 6+ frozen, it will be a good time to start backing off.

Losses
USSR : 142.000 troops, 1.975 guns, 122 AFVs, 417 AC.
Axis : 41.000 troops, 377 guns, 62 AFVs, 64 AC.
Seems the USSR frontline units are somewhat devoid of AFVs, which probably means there are some nasty USSR armoured units hiding in the forests, awaiting the blizzard.

USSR units destroyed
1 rifle division and 1 sapper regiment.

German pools
Manpower : 82 (-526)
Vehicles : 160.855 (-984)
Armaments : 9.919 (+8.783) (Hurray!!!)
Hiwi : 132.056 (+982)

This is around a period when Soviet tank divisions are converting to brigades; the amount of tanks on the battlefield will decrease.

You oughta worry about those units way ahead of the supplied rail network; especially in mud turns.

Turn 21

Overall
It might be too early, but not having played random weather before, I do not dare wait any longer. The retreat has started. The main priority now is shortening the front enough to allow me to send all mech/panzer divisions to Das Reich for some badly needed R&R. If possible I will send as many high morale Inf units there as well. The Rumanians will remain in Rumania untill the end of the Blizzard. No attacks this turn as our forces and the USSR units headed their separate ways.

Losses
USSR : 32.000 troops, 164 guns, 8 AFVs, 56 AC.
Axis : 28.000 troops, 91 guns, 36 AFVs, 8 AC.

German pools
Manpower : 174 (+92)
Vehicles : 162.577 (+1.722)
Armaments : 14.180 (+4.261)
Hiwi : 133.187 (+1.131)
