I have it on my list but havn't gotten too into it yet. Andy was (is) the AI script expert. I've been looking at the GC 41 scripts to try to get a feel for things. May be a while yet.

On the bright side....i'm in the middle of a PBEM playtest which has generated some good feedback on adjustments...mainly to the Japanese economy to prevent from shutting down quickly.

Very excited about this scenario, but, I only play against the AI, anxiously awaiting the scripts.

Three :) I peek at this thread now and then. No hurry though, I have a GC underway that I am taking my time on to keep me busy.

I am in a PBEM right now with this scenario. If you do get back to this one let me know and I will give you my thoughts.

Im playing this scenario via pbem as Japan. Ive played through 7-42 and have an observation. My subs have launched torpedoes approximately ten times total. Most are out on patrol in major convoy or base areas. They get attacked quite often. I have sub doctrine turned off. It could be me but I thought I would mention it. The Allied player has good torps and seems to sink my ships every turn.

Andy is still working on the AI module. Other than that, there are some minor corrections i need to get around too, but the scenario remains playable in PBEM mode.

minor correction? there are missing capital ships like BB haruna! i'm waiting for corrected version to start a pbem

i think japanese starting victory points are few, in stock scenario in a historical may '42 situation japanese player has a minor(or major?) victory state. are they few by lack of destroyed lcus, planes, ships points?

however, compliments for great job, witp-ae really needs a 1942 scenario

I think this is a great idea, but would like increased attempts at accuracy, just needs to be worked on a bit more.
( I did begin but must have got a new patch to play with and forgot it)

A game against the AI is necessary. It would need to have several different Japanese offensives possible along with some more defensive strategies by IJ. IMHO it might be better to have an ending to the game at some point in 1944 than making the Japanese Player fight to the last icon.
(There may be IJ Players who have some sort of attachment to kamikazes but is it really that important to indulge them?). If ended in mid-1944 or around the time of the Leyte Invasion I would bet that the most played scenario would be the 1942 scenario either against the AI or in PBEM. (I will confess to being really tired of enduring a year's worth (+/-) of IJ Player superiority especially with one day turns and especially since I've not run into the IJ Player who wants to fight to the last icon yet so I've never made it past about May of 43).

Yeah really! Strategically they accomplished nothing whatever except to reduce the number of young men in Japan.

Give the Japanese Player a chance to win by holding onto something more than the historical holdings at whatever end date is used. Let the IJ Player play economic guru producing different a/c in different numbers and perhaps deploying some of the more advanced planes/ships.

I would argue that, strategically, they made the U.S. think a lot harder about whether or not they wanted to invade (or rather helped make, along with the ferocious fighting on several islands).

I think what you're after is a different mod altogether. This one should just be the starting scenario 1 and/or 2, only with the first 5 months already accounted for in a reasonable way. While I've never been to that part of the game, can't a player choose whether or not to convert a unit into a kamikaze unit? You don't even need a mod to make a house rule for that, or choose not to if you're the IJN player.

The supreme irony of history is now that there are reports of the Japanese requesting nuclear weapons for self defense!

And this will also, I surmise, serve as a BUMP!!!

Nikademus,

Can you please rename the Japanese squads for a better orientation?
As it is now, all three INF squads have the same name:
707, 709, 710 IJA Infantry Squads.

IMHO it could be nice if you can modify it as follows:
707 IJA INF Squad 41
709 IJA INF Squad 41+ /it's because this one is a little stronger than 707/
710 IJA INF Squad 43

It helps a lot when the war goes on a little longer , and there are some problems with replacements... you just need to know which "device"/"squad" is worth upgrading.
Also it's nice to know which IDs has stronger infantry...

[EDIT: BTW 709 is even stronger than '43 squads... I always wondered why is that and why 710 gets not a slightest better stats... As it is now the squad upgrade is not worth it.
It's a pity we cannot pick a single line of a TOE and decide to upgrade say... 75 mm guns bit not infantry squads...]

they could save a lot of money, if that dangerous neighbour really planting a nuke on Japan, Japan's big Allied would probably empty 1% of it's nuclear arsenal over the Northern part of Korea. Guess it wouldn't even need 1% to completely destroy the whole country. Probably enough of an argument that it would never really happen in the first place.

I've always wondered if it is possible to put a nuke in a bunker buster. Seems to me that would have a very nasty effect on an underground nuclear weapons site - and the country which built such a place.

Or, if we could built a 12,000-20,000# bunker buster.

Oh, and BUMP!
