Hi all,

New German war machine.....

I most seriously doubt this is real advertisement... nobody is "hollier" than Germans regarding this stuff (i.e. Nazi Germany)... this simply can't happen in modern Germany (prison is real possibility)...

BTW, do you guys know that you can't have computer games with historic German markings in German stores or available on-line?

They are simply forbidden by law and even US companies have to obey (for example just look at Gary Grigsby's games that had to eliminate all historic German markings)!

It's not an ad intended for Germany though. It also doesn't have Nazi imagery either. I know that the Nazi imagery thing is a hurdle when I was putting together some new art for BTR, I had to make two sets, one for general release with all that stuff taken off and one for people outside Germany with the swastikas left on.

It's actually the sort of ad that would go down well here in the UK, like the Spitfire Ale ads Besides which I quite like the idea of a big company (especially a German one) having a sense of humour.

Martin, it is still a German car maker!

The press in Germany would crucify the Volkswagen regardless of where it was published if this was true add...

They probably would. But I suspect that VW aren't actually hiring Jeremy Clarkson as a PR adviser.

I dont know John that well, but from what I have seen, I think he will be back eventually. I would guess that he's just taking some time to detach and decompress. Hope so, anyway. He's very much fun to have around without even mentioning his deep knowledge of both the game and history in general.

I think we need "Terminus come home" and "JWE come home" threads. Everyone sign on. Probably meaninless if they truly don't want to come back, but it's always nice to see people doing things together".

They had a few replicas, but most were the real deal.

I'm not aware of any version of me that most people would call 'reasonable'. Just ask Steve!

Half a dozen horses, various soldiers, a general and some officer pieces. Probably 30-40 in all. Also, stone body armor (!) and helmets for the troops. Pretty impressive worksmanship for being 2700 years old!

Oh, and in quintessential pharoah/emperor/king style, they killed all the thousands of workers and artisans that worked on the project to preserve secrecy. "Thanks for the nice digs, guys. Unfortunately, we have to kill all of you now." It's a helluva artisan pension system, isn't it?

Speaking of Steve, I finally got my entire library back together (the stuff I had in NY and the stuff I had left at my parents' house when I first moved to NY). Threw out many of my paperbacks, mostly TNG-related stuff that I dont think I'll ever read because it wasnt that well written to begin with, all of the W.E.B. Griffin stuff (which I used to find fascinating), most of the Tom Clancy stuff (which was really getting pretty bad towards the end there...Bear and the Dragon, etc.), and my Squad Leader (I hated to have done it but its been at least 15 years since I played and I highly doubt that I'll find anyone here to play with anyway).

I hadnt the slightest recollection what I had here for the most part. Turns out I had a bunch of very good stuff squirreled away; von Luck, Mellenthin, bunch of Samuel Mitcham books, turns out I was quite a fan of Stephen Ambrose in those days judging by the number of his books I had (I was young and impressionable), Corum's Luftwaffe book, Caldwell's book on JG26, bunch of memoirs.....

But my final thought on looking at my library is I have a looooooooong way to go before I get up to Steve's level of epic home library-dom/ness.

Once we get our finances back on track and I dont feel guilty spending money on books, I'll look into that Flashman thing I saw at Martin's place. They looked hilarious.

You can do stuff like that when youre the first emperor of China.

Is it true that each of the figures was modeled on an actual person?
