... and you shouted back 'uncle! uncle UNCLE!'

(do you know this is a word we use in English to denote "surrender and please desist" in a match of physical prowess, usually arm wrestled or other semi-friendly activities?)

I didn't know.

I turned over and hoped for it to end. But "old McDonald had a farm" was way too loud to endure while trying to fall asleep again.

Aren't you glad our son loves to sleep as much as he can?

I do! But I somehow doubt he'd listen to "ol mcdonald..." and such songs...

That 'ping' may be a while in coming, Comrade Red Mouse. Our mutual friend seems to have contracted Ebola or Bubonic / Pneumonic plague from the base hospital. He's incommunicado for the moment, and likely at a laboratory at an 'undisclosed location' getting worked up.

Oh jeez.

Hope he's ok.

Get well soon, Steve. Wherever you are.

Reports of my demise are greatly exagerated . I've emailed you. I've Skyped you. There are smoke signals leaving Omaha for LA. What we have here boy , is a failure to communicate...........

Sorry buddy. I'm still "on the clock" for another 40 min. I'll look for you on skype after I'm done working

Our temperate doubled today. It was .5c when I left for work this morning. When I came home it was 1c. I'll be breaking out the barbecue later tonight

Why the move? Something you've wanted to do for a while? Better deal come up? Closer to work?

I'm currently renting an apartment that's owned by a foundation related to the defense academy. It's one of many apartments meant to be a temporary home for those of us that is moving to Stockholm from all over the country and starts to work there.

It's not easy (expensive, however) to find a good place to live in Stockholm. Allowing us to rent these apartments gives us time to find something for ourselves. I've now lived in this place for 3,5 years, and the landlord started to make some noices about not allowing me to prolong my stay any longer.

Edited; foreign language.

Are there better deals on the outskirts than in town proper?

Much easier. The apartment I'm moving to is shiny brand new. Rent is roughly 50% lower than it would've been for the same size apartment downtown. I figured I could live with the extra ~15 minutes (one way) commuter time for that

... otherwise, I'm quite happy with the timing of my move. The owner of the building I'm currently living in is starting a major renovation (including replumbing) of the entire building next month.

Wow, that's quite a difference for only a 15 minute commute! Good find. Good mass transit system nearby?

Commuter train station 200 meters from my flat. From there ~15 minutes to downtown Stockholm.
