ORIGINAL: jeffk3510 What do you do for a living anyway? I also find it neat to hear what people on here do outside of the forum... Dan started a neat topic a while back on a short run down for everyone who was interested. It was very cool to find out about peeps here. Some I had no idea they were that young/old and what they did for a living. ...i guess i should have posted "my work situation right now sux" instead of a two word statement...i studied physics in college, got hooked on the movie Top Gun and went to AOCS right out of college, flew P-3's the first half, ship's company second half (Operations Department, Combat Center on an aircraft carrier) with naval post grad school in between...got out of the navy after 11 years (got shrunk out it is more like it) and got a job as a manufacturing engineer at a medical device company...been here ever since...my role now after 14 years is Business Process Manager for our Instrument Manufacturing dept...basically managing data, training, functionality and processes related to our ERP system (SAP - i've b*tched and moaned about that here before) and other processes related to manufacturing complex instruments from table top clinical instruments up to capital equipment beasts used in life sciences research, etc... ...the work itself is satisfying and interesting, although it seems like a lot of my time lately is cleaning up other people's f ups...there are (IMO) unrealistic expectations and ambiguous goals that i seem to have to interpret and somehow make reality...on top of that, it seems that every time i journey down a path for one of these improvement goals, it's not the direction my boss had in mind...for me personally, it is incredibly demotivating...i'm struggling to find a good reason to stay here other than the benefits (one of the few companies left that have a pension plan, good savings incentive plan, etc.)...i'm envious of jobs where goals are clear and obtainable...in your case, i assume the goal is making good trading decisions and there is a monetary reward for doing so...same with my wife, who is in sales...sell more, make more, rinse, repeat...in the navy, it was successfully complete the mission and get everybody back on the ground safely...i'm probably over simplifying, but that's how i feel right now LOL! ...anywho, thanks for asking and as one of jim rome's clones would say, thanks for the vine...that was actually somewhat cathardic, so hopefully my rant doesn't ruffle too many feathers... Thank you for the post. Not at all a rant. Very interesting background and work history. I praise folks that can train others and clean f'ups..not so much me. I can't stand it when something doesn't go right or someone screws up something I would consider simple...therefore I would be an awful trainer. Training new employees is enough...I have my office manager train anyone she hires or staff in the back.. traders, I am very selective. We don't hire someone who doesn't know corn is yellow for example..good benefits make an unsatisfying (not saying yours is) difficult to leave for someting more desireable. BTW, who do you think will sign a 305 left tackle that happens to be able to chuck a pigskin 75 yards?
