...listening to NPR today and they were asking people to call in if they had ever had to pull a gun on someone...guy calls in from florida and says he had a crack-head invade his home...he grabs his assualt weapon and points it at the guy, but he keeps coming...turns out he's some kind of martial arts guru and breaks the home owner's nose and takes his rifle away from him...the home owner comes to hearing the clicking of the rifle which is pointed at his face...apparently, the intruder couldn't figure out how to release the safety...they struggle for a while and home owner ends up with the rifle...three rounds to the belly and one to the head later and the intruder ain't no more......home owner claims he would be dead if he was defending himself with a pistol or shotgun...really?...not completely buying that one...

I suppose it's possible. God knows I've struggled often enough with an unfamilar weapon. And I can belive that most people can figure out a shotgun or a revolver (but NOT a semi-auto pistol, I've had more problems with those that I wasn't familar with then any other type..everyone seems different). But do you really want to count of the stupidity of a intruder?

The lessons here are: always use a defensive weapon that YOU are most familiar with. Never point a weapon at anyone that you don't intend to use on , then use as intended.

I can understand that you guys want gun ownership and it's in your constitutional right etc. But wasn't the right to bear arms a safeguard against those damned handsome British coming back? It was also written before assault rifles etc were even a twinkle in mankind's eye and you managed okay. I don't see why so many people are hung up on the idea that gun ownership means they must have an M16 or similar. Where does it end? I need a 40GW phase plasma rifle qnd a howitzer to defend my property.

You guys is not intended to reference any individuals, just the American people as a single simplified entity.

I have a SIG Sauer P226, works well from a wheelchair.

I've one too, interestingly enough. I'd prefer to use that as well, given the choice. I still think you should get another P226 and get a dual mount for the chair too.

I've just obtained my 1st SIG of anytime. The 1911/22. It's a perfect duplicate of my 1911 in weight and feel , but chambered in 22 cal. Much more affordable to shoot that my old colt. I'm looking forward to range time this week.

...i didn't get the impression that the safety mechanism was the point of his comment...more that he felt he needed the extra firepower (?) and/or rate of fire to take this guy down...i'm thinking at close quarters, a pistol or especially a shotgun would have worked just fine...

Any body who has been to Florida knows that the damned Redcoats would invade at the drop of a hat! But we'll be ready for them this time!

Part of the reason people like the AR15 is that it's a light weight , all purpose , easy to comvert gun. The same reason that our armed forces use it (that is women, or small framed men can use it. It shoots a glorified 22 cal round.). It's actually not legal in most states for deer hunting because the round is so light. So here it's used for "varmits", pests that range the gamit from praire dogs to coyotes. It can be easily modified to carry a 22 round for training, or a 7.62 for serious stopping power. It's collapsable stock can fit a small framed person (like my spouse) or a bigger guy like myself. A lot of people just can't afford a bunch of weapons , and this one can do most function adequetly.

It's really the modern equivalent to the rifled musket over the fireplace.

Personally , I'm old school , I love my M-1 Garand (WW2 USA issue). A much heavier, longer ranged peice.

I totally agree. The biggest gripe I have with the AR-15 or similar weapons is a lack of stopping power. And close in defense is the ONLY reason for a pistol in my view. I'd want an AR/AK if a gang was attacking my house, a shot gun as they came in my house , and a heavy handgun (my choice is a 1911 or a old fashion colt 45 Army single action!) IN the house.

I remember years ago when I swapped from an FN to an M16, we had trouble with the bolt and couldn't load a round every-time. The instructors kept telling us we were doing something wrong, but after about six months they fixed the problem. They had issued us with the wrong magazines, they had given us ones meant for a different model with a longer receiver!

Yes, that would be one thing. Too bad no handsome ones want to come over-we just get the poxy gits. For that reason alone, we need wanton access to automatic weapons.

4. Bribery and scandal in the world's most boring sport finally makes it interesting.

5. Iranian 'stealth model' fakes that would have Airfix blushing.

I find WoT to be a very good change of pace to WiTPAE. Good to play in between turns when I have a free evening. Very fun, addicting game.

Who all plays?

I have noticed the ones who are talking about it.

I used to play but got tired of it, so I'm taking a break. I always played solo.

The in-game chat can get "interesting" (I ended up using PreHistoric's No-Chat Window mod), and as for the forum discussions? My God...

A different crowd, to be sure.

Breakfast without animal? What's the point?

Don't get me wrong Dixie I would love an animal every morning, but unfortunately I have to talk to a Nutritionist once a week.

Will you have to talk to him less often if you dont partake of animal? If its the same either way, I say grab the bacon.

...listening to NPR today and they were asking people to call in if they had ever had to pull a gun on someone...guy calls in from florida and says he had a crack-head invade his home...he grabs his assualt weapon and points it at the guy, but he keeps coming...turns out he's some kind of martial arts guru and breaks the home owner's nose and takes his rifle away from him...the home owner comes to hearing the clicking of the rifle which is pointed at his face...apparently, the intruder couldn't figure out how to release the safety...they struggle for a while and home owner ends up with the rifle...three rounds to the belly and one to the head later and the intruder ain't no more......home owner claims he would be dead if he was defending himself with a pistol or shotgun...really?...not completely buying that one...

Dont take that too seriously. These people arnt exactly constitutional scholars. And theyre not afraid of the British. Theyre afraid of black CIA helicopters. Which is amusing because these are the same people who accuse the government of being incompetent. How the same people can be incompetent fools and evil masterminds simultaneously, I have yet to understand.

Basically, as far as I can tell, its a political temper tantrum by folks who still cant make their peace with the idea that there is a black Democrat in the White House for a second term who wasnt put there by a military junta.

Any body who has been to Florida knows that the damned Redcoats would invade at the drop of a hat! But we'll be ready for them this time!

Theyve already retaken NY (did they ever lose it?). And they can have it as far as I'm concerned.

...any Subway sandwich fans out there? i swear, i think i'm gonna go postal next time one of those servers asks me if i want "everything" on my sandwich......and i'll tell you if i want the darn thing toasted too...you don't have to ask me every flippin time...

Why do they even ask. Anyone who does not have their sub toasted is worse than Hitler and has no business eating a sub.

Having a wife who is an accountant is an excellent source of info. For example, I've leaned that sales tax applies to toasted subs, but not untoasted.

I don't ever have mine toasted, but that doesn't make me worse than Hitler...
