Early morning tithe...

Just finished registering the Chickenboys junior for Summer camp. The good camps are in such high demand that they fill within minutes of online registration opening. Hovering over the mouse at 5:59am to register them for the really cool ones.

Got 'er done. For today at least, I'm a cool dad.

Most of you lot are old enough farts to enjoy Rush. They are coming to Raleigh to play on Friday, May 3rd. I'm taking Alex to see them. Anyone else up for joining? Could it be a Rush Thread Summit?

Howdy,

Have a new mission from God. Mom has three prescription meds that the local CVS pharmacy has been charging her about $46.00 a month for. Never thought much about it, since it's an insurance thing and CVS has computers and they are a National Brand, and what the hey!

But then my local CVS had an internal personnel train wreck, so I took Moms prescriptions over to my local Winn Dixie pharmacy. The refil time came and imagine my shock and surprise when the price, with tax, was $28.56. I knew there must be some mistake, so I told the pharmacist what I had been paying and asked him to verify the price. He spent some time on his 'puter and came back with " .. no, this is the price after your insurance coverage'.

Damn, think I, is CVSs 'puter not up to snuff? So I go to CVS and talk to the manager and get blown off big time. Like 'you know nothing, and just who the heck you think you are anyway?' Okey dokey. I call a couple of plaintiff lawyers I knew from from my Cali days, and Hootz Gazooties, it looke like I'm going to gonna get some major sugar in my offshore account, and someone else is gonna get some big time eggs and bacon from this action.

I'll let ya know who did what. Ciao JWE

Good for you, man.

People are always so content with what they get. When you go the extra mile, such as you did, you find out that everyone else is really looking out for them, and not you.

I would be PISSED the minute I found out the info you did.

Well done.

Hello there, A musician, if you consider the normal pattern of civilized life, is outside of it all. He doesn’t build things, he doesn’t work regular hours like a decent, God fearing citizen, and the life he leads seems, in many ways, useless and irrelevant to those of us who prefer a quiet evening in front of the telly, and a bottle of beer. Amazing as it might seem to some of us, musicians have basic physical needs just like real people. Many of them study for years, learning to play the violin, for instance, only to be rewarded with a hum drum job in the fourth row of the symphonic string section.

That’s why the Govt has constructed, at great expense, this experimental orientation facility. To find a way, perhaps, to retrain these useless old musicians, with their brown fiddles, and little horns, and give them a trade, a reason to exist in the modern world, a chance of a happier and more productive life.

Some will enter the military, some will learn shorthand, and some will disappear, in the middle of the night, on a special train they’re sending in. It’s the only way, really, to bring about the final solution to the “Orchestra Question”.

Now ’m sure that many of us realize the a pop group can earn a vast amount of money, compared to those “other’ kinds of musicians. That’s why the Govt Agency for Mass Stultification preferred to treat them in a more subtle manner. They know, just as many of you vigilant and thoroughly upstanding citizens have discovered for yourselves; that the power of Pop Music to corrupt and putrefy the minds of youth, is virtually limitless.

“Oooh the way you love me baby, I get so hard now I could die,
“Oooh the way you love me sugar, I get so hard now I could die,
Open up your pocket book;
Get another quarter out,
Drop it in the meter, Momma,
Try me on for size.

I hope my two boys are not corrupted by the s&$% on the radio today or the tv shows.

Keeping up with the Kardashians, are you kidding me?

Casey Anthony is a better mom than Kris Kardashian....

Too many people live vicariously through celebrities and the media today. Every three year old I know has an Ipad. Our neighbors complain about how hard it is to make their house payment and car payment every month. She stays at home (strike # 1), they just bought their four and two year olds an Ipad each (strike # 2), and it isn't their fault that their "life is so difficult in these times" (strike # 3). Everyone needs a house they can't afford, a car payment they can't afford, and two $100 cell phone bills that the phone alone cost $900 bucks...it's crazy..but it's not their fault you see.. I mean, how dare the neighbors get a head of us...

It just frustrates me what we're becoming IMO...I loved the days as a kid when I saved for MONTHS to buy a Sports Illustrated magazine and didn't even dream of getting a cell phone till college...I don't know a kid over ten in this town that doesn't have one now...

All the crap on TV... Dan is a smart man not owning one.

My three year old nephew can navigate his Ipad faster than I can blink. My sister in law says "it's so much easier to relax at the house when he's on the Ipad". Good luck having any social skills when you're older...

I am in for some very difficult times when my two boys see what others have and are given, and they won't have those unless they can buy them themselves or are given them. It is not because I can't afford them, it is because I don't want them to be 35 and still live in Pokémon’s world, have zero social skills and be unemployed like my cousin...get a life, bro.

Sorry to get on a box...I don't believe this is what you intended, John. This shouldn't clutter up the thread either, or attack people here who have kids that get these things...just...I feel pretty confident what our generations kids will be when I am fifty, and I don't want to deal with any of that s&^%, or hire any of them to work for me.

The sense of entitlement today is disgusting.

Greed is now apparently me not wanting to share my hard earned money with those who refuse to go earn it themselves. However, those feeling entitled to mine, not greedy one bit... please.

I don't think it has to be all that bad, Jeff. Sure, it's more work to raise your kids right and teach them independence, thrift and the basic social skills to which you refer. But it's that much better in the long run. I think if you teach them early in life how to work for things, live within their means and fend for themselves, that's a good place to start.

I'm proud of my kids. They've picked up on the 'allowance money' versus 'mom and dad's money' quickly. They have no expectations of getting an iPAD any time soon, because it would take them >100 weeks to even come close. That time horizon is foreign to them. However, $20 LEGO sets are more within their purview and their budget.

You don't have to 'kill your TV' to live a fulfilled and balanced life. Just don't watch the 99% of television that is CRAP. What's the problem? With a DVR, on demand and mail-order DVDs, I have all the entertainment for my family that I can deal with. I'm proud to say that I've never watched one episode of the Kardashians, Big Brother, Survivor or countless other garbage reality TV.

Balanced family life is possible. It just takes a little bit of work. Chin up, mate.

Know none of you care a whit. Frankly couldn't care less. You are too wrapped up in

But,Just saw Red Tails for, like, for the third time tonight. It’s one of those films that just keeps getting under your skin and makes you think about stuff. Part I liked best was when they were still flying P-40s and they all gathered together on the hard and prayed and bonded together, like a tribe; a tribe of brothers who will do what must be done to bring down the enemy and help their shot up brethren home.

Had the privilege of serving with Black Americans in the Vietnam conflict. And it is true, that they gather together in stressfull situations and confront things with a different perspective. Have learned to appreciate those perspectives and make them part of my daily duty.

African-Americans offer a personally unique perspective on the combat experience that, frankly, informs all of us.

Yeah, yeah, I’m supposed to do all that for my job for DoD, but I am a human being, after all, and I kinda like the righteousness for righteousness sake kinda arguments coming down recently.

One of our retired employees was in Vietnam. He doesn't really talk about it much, but will if he knows you well enough. He mentioned that no one at all cared for the vets when they came back home, and that is why he doesn't care to discuss it. He said that if no one cared then, why does anyone care now...pretty sad.

The new 2012 movie "Red Tails" is very bad one... the planes in it move "arcade style" without regard to physics and actual history depicted is, well, distorted...

The older Movie (where Cuba Gooding Jr. also starred) "The Tuskegee Airmen" from 1995 was 100x better IMHO!
