Having smashed so many ground units in SUVa and NW Oz I think they might be running out of local units to send there. I suspect most of them are still deployed defending Rabual and points SE from there. Probably the Marshalls too.

The French navy might never have been very effective but they made some pretty little ships. This is a torpedo boat from 1894:

Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. Then you add in 10K at Dobo, 8K at Ambon, 12K at Kendari, 11K at Manado, 12K kicked out of Sorong, 15K at Hollandia, 9+K still alive on Mindanao, 8K on Leyte, 9K at Palau, 6K on Palawan, 5K on Panay...and pretty soon you are talking about a rot of LYB's.

If we have already spotted 60K in the Solomons how many msut there be at Rabaul?

Right, so by now JJ must certainly have deduced Luzon is the goal. They just don't know where. Time to bring up the F4's and start reconning everything. They can go to Cagayan, there just wont be anyone to service them.

Naga and Legaspi on SE Luzon both have level 1 airfields but you have to sail around and come at them through the Phillipine Sea which is no man's land.

Lucena and Batangas both have level 1 airfields. Batangas has a much better port but JJ could rearm at Manira and bombard the stank out of us every night. At least at Lucena you could put mines and PT boats at Lubang and Calapan and slow them down a bit.

Altimonan has a level 4 field and some kind of troop presence becasue theya re using the airstrip.

The big sweep on Northern Luzon could come in late April (if needed)

By ra way, shouldn't be working or something? You didn't hire one of those chinky code-code guys did you?

OK, sorry to shift gears but here is a strategy question. JJ risks 8-10 AK's with NO escort and no LRCAP landing a 600 strong unit at Naga. Might be a recon unit with the 10 AFV's. Anyway, this seems rather desperate to count on a 600 strong garrison for the best port in Southern Luzon.

What learnings can be drawn from this. I have my own idea.

EDIT: I left the "f" out of "shift"

Are you sure there are only 600 troops? If you just spotted them, they may not be done unloading yet. Got any dive bombers in range to scout that out?

I'm at a loss to why they would feel the need to land 'em south in Naga, only to move them again. It's so much easier to just dump 'em at Lingayen and rail them down to Naga. Plus, no pesky enemy dive bombers up North (yet).

Beats me, Cap'n.

Cap'n and Lord Admiral-take a look at that hex to the immediate SE of Manila (Due East of Batangas). It's accessible via the Eastern (map) side of Luzon. It's got a road spur coming off of it towards Batangas. I've never seen defensive preparations for this hex in other games. I've also never seen prep for that island just offshore there either. Since port access to this port is from the East, you've no worries about Manira ships shooting the stuffing out of your forces at the landing site.

A landing on Luzon in this location could get you an armored spearhead into Batangas in one turn of movement (road armor movement), cutting off the southern part of the island. It would also have the nice upside of putting Manila in immediate jeapardy.

ETA: It's 6 hexes from your base on Panay, so perfectly reasonable for LRCAP too.

Splendid! Your code-name for him can be "The Earl of Suffix". Keeping her ignorant of its meaning, you might even get your daughter in on it, informing you "Daddy, the Earl will be over in 10 minutes!"

i agree that hex SE of Manila and the island just to the east offshore look tempting for Allied landings. As the IJN player it would be very difficult to have serious prepared defenses there. How strong is the IJ air force around Manila?

Or even Puerto Princesa to really start cutting off the DEI convoys?

Are those live Exocets with propellant and warheads sitting on those racks? Does that seem like a good idea to anyone?

The Problem with the Eastern shore of Luzon is JJ could come done from Formosa and be on us without warning.

At least we would know what was at Manila and make it untenable for them in short order.

We know virtually nothing about LYB forces on Luzon...on purpose up to now. Likely Helens are operating from Clark and Sallys from Altimonan. A bit of shipping activity at Manila and at one of the bases North of Manila recently

**************Bali Hai Club, Dadjangas**************

Hirsute man: <finishes off drink, sets down glass> Thanks Idi!

Man in fine linen slacks: Pay the man, Yossarian, you cheap SOB.

Hirsute man: What? Idi, owns the club? <starts fishing for cash>

Man in fine linen slacks: Yes, and Idi drives a hard bargain <smiles broadly in that charactersitic Minderbinder fashion which to Yossarian indicates that a financial killing has been made>

Hirsute man: <soto voce> But all the troops are leaving Dadjnagas.

Man in fine linen slacks: <quietly, hand on shoulder> Look, Yossarian, let the man enjoy his time in the sun. Now, let's go. I want to look at some properties in Olongapo.

Hirsute man: What about the girls?

Man in fine linen slacks: They are part of the deal. We are going Fillipina. They are better looking anyway.

Hirsute man: What about the Tahitian theme? Nobody is going to believe they are Tahitian.

Man in fine linen slacks: Look, Yossarian, A couple of drinks with umbrellas, grass skirts and some bongo drums and the corn-fed boys from Nebraska will eat it up. Let's go. See you, Idi! <begins walking>

Hirsute man: <begins following> Thanks Idi!........ Wait, Olongapo, isn't that on Subic Bay?

Man in fine linen slacks: Come on, Yossarian, you timid SOB.

Hirsute man: But that's on Luzon. The Japs own Luzon, you crazy SOB! <begins speaking loudly>

Man in fine linen slacks: Shhhhh. Yossarian, shut up. It's supposed to be a secret. <looks around to be sure they are nto overheard> They aren't going to own it for long and we are going to be there to make sure the soldiers, sailors and marines have proper R&R..............

General Idi Amin Dada, Maximum Ruler and President for Life: How are things, Captain?

Ugandan Guard Captain: All is well, sir. We are ready if the Israelis come.

General Idi Amin Dada, Maximum Ruler and President for Life: Ah, don't worry about them. They are 2500 miles away. This is going very well. I must go speak to the media for the glory of Uganda. Keep an eye on them.

Ugandan Guard Captain: The hostages, sir?

I am thinking of calling it Operation Premature Encarcecration

I dont think San Jose will be level 2 by then so no LRCAP from San Jose. If there is some monster LYB division sitting at Manila this will nto be a good idea...or the landing would have to be larger.

What is the best way to embark an infantry regiment from a level 1 port. I have the 147th Inf Regt at Namlea and nobody is going to attack there. Even the headhunters have seen the joys of capitalism.

Do I embark them on an amphibious TF without docking?

I think the landing gear struts are from cut-down scaffolding donated during a scrap-metal drive. No need to melt it down there, just cut and spot weld in a couple of places. At the end of the war the donor can bring his chit for the donated scaffold and they will just cut it off the aircraft, weld it back into scaffold shape, et voilà!

Barges, AKLs or those really small APs that can doc at a port 1. (in fact, all of those is your best option ;)
