A foot in a half of snow makes me want to shut my face in a car door at work...so difficult in the transportation industry.
Mainly it is people not being man enough to drive on dry roads that half the snow already cleared off... Their kids have off of school, so they should have off of work too.
Ah, welcome to my world. But what I like is when it is storming.....no traffic. Unless some knucklehead gets stuck in front of me.
I grew up in Upstate New York, in the Finger Lakes Region (150 inches, 380cm of snow a year). Usually, with my front wheel drive Dodge Grand Caravan, I can get through up to a foot of snow at a time without difficulty. I do find it amusing that others in the Middle Tennessee area where I live now, panic with a light dusting of snow on the road. Good luck finding anything perishable at any grocery store even though the white stuff will be gone off the roads in one day or less from just the variable temperature around here.
We have had some snows that drifted over five feet and lasted for five days or so, that was some difficult times, but it has happened once in 30 years and still counting... I was a fire chief at the time and had a Dodge Ram Charger with a five ton winch on it. I ploughed through those drifts with that truck to deliver generators to medically in need persons in areas without power. Lots of fun and lots of white faces on the nurses in the passenger seat.
Ice... Now that is another story... I don't care who you are, Ice doesn't like anyone to be on the road.

We got 5" of the white stuff last night. The plows hadn't come through our side street, so off I went through the snow in my Honda Civic (I've got good snow tires). No problemo. Snow is pretty straightforward to drive through. Patch ice or glaze (black) ice: Not so much.
We got 6-8 inches of the white stuff. They plow furrows on farms very well here. Roads? Not so well. I get by find with my little Hyndai (front wheel drive with a standard transmission). But for some reason ,almost every vehicle you see in the ditch here is a 4 wheel drive SUV ?

That happens here as well every year when the first snow comes. It is as if the 4WD SUV drivers think that just because they have just 4WD, they're immune to skidding off the road. To my pleasure, they're wrong

Per, you can be honest with us. You're texting this through your phone from the side of the road where you're waiting for a tow truck, aren't you?

In your dreams, man ...
I've been off the road once since I recieved my drivers licence some 31 years ago. First winter, I seriously overestimated my driving abilities in relation to the speed and the state of the road and so went off. No injuries and the car could be driven from the place after the tow truck pulled me up. I've never done that mistake again [knock on wood]

I hear 'ya. My first winter in Pennsylvania (previously living in NoCal) found me spinning out on ice twice. Once I dented the fender on a misplaced telephone pole. Oopsie!

Yeah, those telephone poles are put in the most inconvenient places

Sure. Still getting settled-in here. But hopefully soon. Looking into finally getting internet at home. Just waiting to see if things are going to stay busy here. So far so good, first week is almost over. Three hospital projects going. A great start. Still a little gun shy though after the last five years.
If I remember correctly there was error in the last turn I sent. If so it was early enough into the scenario that we could just start over. No one had sighted each other, and no shots had been fired.

I had exactly the same experince as Pers when I was 18 in my 1st car. Never since. I had one of these:
That's a beaut, Steve! Very nice.
I just about spun my first real car off a cliff on Topanga Canyon Drive. in SoCal. Within 48 hours of getting it too. Young guys and their cars is so stupid.

Actually it looked better than it was. Even though it was a 1969 in 1976, it had seen too many Maine winters (with all the salt and corrosion that brought) and had not been very well maintained. It was also horrendously over powered. One day I floored it and broke 3 out of 4 engine mounts! I keep telling my spouse that we should get one of the newer Mustangs which are a definite nod to the old cars. That way I could have a 8 cylinder engine that actually had 8 cylinders that worked! This car had to be junked a couple of years later as the frame had mostly collapsed.

Meh.
I believe my old car still lives. At least I know that a veteran enthusiast in a small village up north owned it some years ago. Apparantely only used it during summer while renovating it during winter.
