This issue is raised by bootlegger, Fjell75 and AnthonyJA.

I am not sure yet what it is but it might be memory related somehow with some windows configurations not properly garbage cleaning.

Here is a beta test build .exe that might fix it:
http://www.vrdesigns.nl/WarsawToParis151g.zip

You have to manually overwrite the WarsawToParis.exe (not 100% sure if patch v1.51 is neccessary but i think its advisable) with the file in the zip.

I would appreciate any feedback if this helps and if not if the error details are the same or not.

Hope to help you guys soon.

edit: please read me further posts down below

Best,
Vic

Thanks Vic. I'll try the other exe. Btw, Campaign settings were Historical, Normal AI Speed, Show FOW, Sound On, Music Off, Combat Numbers, Show Divisions , Auto Mouse Over, Hq's Subordinates, Show Divisions, Show Labels. Cards played at start.....Military Intel, Weather Intel, Free Intel.

Yes it might work, but dont get your hopes up to soon.

I am also interested to know if you encountered the bug with v1.5 or with v1.51?

************** JIT-feilsøking **************
Når du skal aktivere JIT-feilsøking (Just In Time), må .config-filen for dette
programmet eller datamaskinen (machine.config) ha
jitDebugging-verdien angitt i delen system.windows.forms.
Programmet må også kompileres med feilsøking
aktivert.

For eksempel:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

I just ran into this today while playing a 6-man co-op. We are playing the Case White scenario. I've tried decreasing my res and applying the hotfix but nothing has worked. This is the error message I'm getting now along with a dxdiag.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Yup...extracted and copied over 1.51b with the 1.51g file provided by VR. Made a copy of the original exe.

Hmmm good for you, mate

To me it still crashes. What did you do?
Reinstalled the game and just copyed the .exe file over?

First turn of Poland in Campaign vs. AI. Happens unpredictably when scrolling, but usually when near the map edges and has happened in all zoom levels. Happens when starting a new campaign or loading a save game. Have been unable to get through a single turn.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Applied patch 1.51g, and crash recurred within 5 minutes:

So I changed my resolution from 1680X1050 to 1440X900 and the crash did not recur. But then I crashed on turn 8 or so with an OutofMemory exception. Was too disappointed to get the debug code, sry.

Hi all,

Sorry again for your problems. I think it is related to changes in some libraries in Windows8 and a recent change in Windows7 that ports some Windows8 functionality (just a few days ago or earlier if you tried out IE10).

WindowsXP and WindowsVista users should not be experiencing this issue.

For Windows7 users i would like you to try the following:

Windows Menu-> Configuration -> Software -> Installed Updates -> Remove Windows Update KB2670838
(be aware that it might re-install with a next update, but i would really like to pin down this problem so please tell me if the problem persists with this KB2670838 update removed)
(furthermore it is possible to prevent this update from being installed again: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24376-windows-update-hide-restore-hidden-updates.html)

Another avenue of approach (only one for now for Windows8 users) that just might work, but thats just a guess, is turning off hardware acceleration.

I am quite sure the de-install of KB2670838 will do the trick, i managed to recreate this bug and fix it using this approach, but i would really appreciate the feedback in order to fix this issue permanently.

Big thanks for helping me out. Please hang in there and report your findings back here.

Best regards,
Vic

I'm checking in to let you know that uninstalling that update (KB2670838) seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the response! I was bummed when the bug hit, I was thinking I was going to have to drop out of my first PBEM game.

Thanks for the feedback hedonist.

I am 100% sure in the meantime this Windows Update KB2570838 is the cullprit. It seems i am not the only on experiencing troubles, especially Firefox seems to have been hit as well.

I am trying to get a version stable to work with this new Windows version, but it is quite though. Also i have understood Microsoft is studying the situation.

I'll post a beta build in this thread if i got anything that can work with the update, untill then REMOVE and HIDE it.

best,
Vic

Yeah, that seemed to have fixed it, but I did crash on turn 5 of Poland with this message, not sure if it's related.

It happened to me too ("out of memory" error message), and i was pretty sure it was due to the update, as it was the only thing changed on my computer between error-free play and crash.
Thank you for keeping us updated reg. a definitive solution.

@Jaxi,

Yes that seems right. Win8 is not yet supported officialy though and Win7 was (untill this backport of Win8 functionality).

Was it Win8 64bit or 32bit?

If anybody reads this thread with 32bit Win8 let me know!

I am getting close to a permanent solution for Win7 with this patch and Win8 and it will probably involve making a seperate 64bit version of Decisive Campaigns.

But i need to be sure Win7 32bit and Win8 32 bit do not have this bug in the first place.

best,
Vic
