1943 is for stalemates; 1942 is for the Axis to push hard and capture Stalingrad...Harrybanana is doing a great job.

A small note, Harry. I could see from the combat reports that u had a mountain div involved. Considering their usedfullness(superior movement capabilities) in blizzard weather conditions and that comes again even its not the 41 blizzard. If possible and u seem to have a nice unit density now. I wouldnt use those where they remotely could get surrounded in the summer. Unlike any thing else they cant be rebuild and so few to go around.

Any how nothing big,

Rasmus

There is a 'Build New' check box that also activates a multiple build (1-10) option.

Thanks gingerbread, I had noticed the "Build New" before but clicking on it never did anything. It wasn't until I read your post and looked really close that I saw that there was a Check Box next to the "Build New." On my monitor it is very difficult to distinguish the colour of the box from the surrounding from the background colour. Of course if I had bothered to read the Manual closely I would have been able to figure it out.

The bad news is that saper re-isolated my 9 rifle divisions. The good news is he didn't get my Cavalry Corps this time. The bad news is that the box was much tighter this turn than ever before. The good news is that I was still pretty confident that I could break through. The bad news is that I didn't. The good news is that Saper has less than 3,400,000 men and less than 1000 operational tanks.

I had two final chances to relieve the trapped units, but both were defeated as illustrated below.

The situation at the end of my turn. So the question is what will Saper do now? Will he go on the defensive, satisfied with destroying 25+ divisions this summer. Will he continue attacking in the South? Or will he move his panzers to attack a more vulnerable section of my front. I'm betting on the latter, but we'll see.

You lacked an advantage in manpower and artillery for those failed attacks. Even with the units being Guards the tank units are still lagging in experience.

You did great - the counterattack ate up several precious 1942 summer moves for the small price of 9 divisions for which you will make up the manpower in one move.

You are right of course. I did have significant advantages in both AFVs and bombers, but those don't seem to mean nearly as much in this game as, imho, they did historically. But I didn't have any choice as only my Tank Corps had enough MPs to make the attacks. I was hoping to get lucky with one of the attacks.

You are correct my Manpower is now growing and I have 200,000+ in the bank. But the 90 APs required to form those divisions are scarce at the moment, and the armament points to equip them are non existent. Still, I've got to think that Saper is in even worse shape than me.

You could reduce the strain on your ARM by not using Cavalry in combat - those squads are expensive. You will need Artillery Divisions when saper switches to defence.

A quieter turn. Saper continued to attack in the South, but primarily with his infantry as he rested his panzers. Of course, I counterattacked in my turn. North West of Orel he has positioned an infantry force into attack position. I have moved some of my tank corps into Reserve. My Manpower Pool continues to increase, but my Armament Pool hits "0". I am going to have a very difficult time coming up with the Armaments I need to build the artillery divisions. I'll probably have to disband some of my artillery regiments, of course this will cost me APs.

Below is the situation in the North.

Good Question. I lost quite a few in 1941 so according to my production screen I only have 299 armament factories, none of which are damaged. But according to the event log last turn I had 86500 armament points produced in 346 Armament factories. I'm sure someone brighter than me (ie some one who actually read the entire Manual) can explain the discrepancy.

You have a 1.3 multiplier for Arm Factories in 42. But it works on a per factory basis not the total. Eg a 3 Arm Factory x 1.3 = 3.9 but it does not round up to 4 so its stays at 3. Whereas a 4 Arm Factory x 1.3 = 5.2 so you get 5 for that one. So you can see the multiplier taken overall in your case is less than 1.2

Ah... thank you Michael T; another very good thing to know and file for future reference.

Another relatively quiet turn as Saper continues to largely rest his panzers. He does, however, continue to advance slowly in the South.

As seen below the offensive I thought Saper was going to launch West of Tula does not materialize.

In the North I begin a limited Offensive; more of maneuver than combat.

West of Moscow I also make some attacks and bring in some of the big boys for a major offensive next turn (assuming Saper doesn't spot my tank corps hiding in the woods).

But it is between Vyazma and Bryansk that I have spotted a weakness in his line. Besides this is the closest spot in our lines to Berlin. The key was to rout the strong units circled in green. To do this I first had to attack and retreat the weak regiment circled in blue. Once this was done I than had to Buildup 2 more Rifle Corps (costing me 46 APs) to get the odds I needed on the strong stack.

The Breakthrough Area after my turn. I doubt my encirclement will hold. I just hope Saper doesn't have any strong mobile units in the area.
