Damn CB! You broke it! You broke it. I got the spring unit back and you broke it! I pushed the weather button and it froze on February. 9F. this morning. I don't even want to talk about about what you did the the wind chill function. Rest, nothing. Cntl+Alt+Delete doesn't work. I checked, and the warranty and it expired last month. Thanks a lot buddy. Thanks a lot. Here you take it and see what you can do. I accidently clicked snow and now that is stuck.

Nice one, dumb***.

You broke that, apparently before you handed it back. We're on tap for 6" of the white stuff over the next 48 hours. SoDak is getting 15" in some places. This blows...

I may be a massive geek but, unlike you, I get paid for it. And the museum opened the vulcan for us.

BTW: What is that dial near the button right that says temblor setting. I tried turning that hoping to at least hear some tunes.

What is snow for you could be tornadoes for us. So, I don't like the strong south winds and a strong cold front approaching here. Not a good combination.

Au contraire, mon fraire...

If you've picked up a newspaper, you've been hearing about H7N9 'bird flu' in China. Smells like...money.

Finally back from Hendon, they've got some very nice aeroplanes there. The only Defiant in the world, the only original Halifax, a Hudson, two seat FW190, a pair of Bf109s, Bf110 and Ju88 nightfighters. Also a Heinkel 111 that was 'acquired' from a USAAF unit, Sunderland flying boat, Me262 and Meteor, Vulcan, RAF Liberator.

There's a few that I'd like to see on BBMF, like a Mosquito, Beaufighter, Bf109, Bf110 and Blenheim.

Well I haven't picked up a newspaper or heard about this H7N9, so does that mean that you aren't getting money?

Have you been to the Yorkshire Air Museum just outside York?

Well, we wouldn't want you to hurt the old noggin' by picking up a newspaper, Dixie.

What was the birthday haul, old man?

Impressive list. Where, in a general sense, is Hendon?

Just finished "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors". Wife saw how much I liked it and wants to read it next. I think she will like it as it has a lot of "Human Interest" with the sailor's backgrounds in it.

She really did enjoy the Texas as did both my kids. There might be some hope for my family, after all...

A good pair of books, although occasionally feels like a précis of U-Boat log books.

Agreed. The fact that he goes through and cites the events surrounding the loss of damn near every U-boat (x700) does make for a certain formulaic repetition.

Still, I'd never appreciated just how bloody devastating western approaches airborne ASW (particularly the 'heavies') were on the U-boat populations. USAAF and RAF aerial ASW were killers. I'm in mid-summer 1943 and the U-boats are losing 50-60% of all sortieing submarines in some TOOs. Eye-watering losses for the Kriegsmarine.

His basic premise is that c95% of all cargoes got through and so that the losses caused by the U Boats weren't in fact that great.

I can thoroughly recommend Business in Great Waters too.

He does give honourable mention to the mediums in the bay of Biscay, particularly those equipped with the Leigh Light, like all good ideas simple and obvious with hindsight.

Nice painting. See ya, Klaus!

Acknowledge the importance of your two summary observations (95% getting through, mediums with Leigh lights). Also, of course, Huff Duff and Ultra.

I hadn't appreciated how many Catalinas or B-17s were involved in the LR and ELR searches in the Atlantic. Nasty, nasty cats on ASW.
