WW2 Grand Strategy Recommendations

Status: offline 		Can anyone recommend a turn based WW2 Grand Strategy Game that is more in depth than Panzer General, but one that does not require a PHD to play. I am thinking of Advanced Tactics WW2, WW2 Time of Wrath, Commander: Europe at War Gold, Strategic War in Europe and Unity of Command ( last one not WW2 ). I do not want to spend hours micro managing, but do want some level of complexity.

satch the game will hopefully be out this year, but no one knows for certain.

The game is a monster in terms of scope - the whole war Europe and Pacific and thousands of counters to move and command. However, it remains faithful to its strategic concept and there is none of the micro-managing you have with say WITP-AE. The board game is quite simply the best game ever and the computer game is designed to be a faithful reproduction. I would recommend you check out the Coming Soon and In Development section and take a look.

Status: offline 		My recommendations would be, in order of my preference

1) Gary Grigsby's World at War a World Divided

2) Strategic Command 2 - either SC2 WW1 (it has a full ETO WW2 Campaign) or Global Conflict Gold

3) Commander Europe at War

If you like Panzer General the Commander Europe at War may be your best bet, have a look at some of the AARs on the Matrix and Slitherine forums to get (what should be a fairly familiar if you are used to PG) a feel of the game.

I have both Making History Gold and II but never really got into them as they felt too much alternative history (which is their objective) rather than a more historical representation, I don't so much want to manage and build economies / empires as fight WW2.

I've got Time of Fury, Time of Wrath and Strategic War in Europe, the later is the best but all feel somewhat unfinished with a few niggly bugs / inconsistencies / AI issues.

Unity of Command is a good game but it is operational rather than strategic.

Some people (like Warspite1 and Parruski) prefer other less complex / micromanaging games. They also watch My Little Pony, drool and draw in crayon. Nothing wrong with that-Crayola needs their business and all-but nothing else captures the imagination like this game. It's a force of nature.

Status: offline 		Well I've had WITP since the very first day of release. And I'm happy to report that I've almost finished turn 1.

The hardest bit was assigning every drafted soldier, sailor, airman to boot camp. Then reading all their evaluations and then assigning them each to a unit or further specialist training, or officer er school. But, I'm almost ready to press turn done.
Some people say its a micromanagement hell, but I think the play balance is just about right.

Oh Holy %^*P! I forgot the chaplains! I haven't assigned any! And I forgot to check the numbers of other religious minorities in each combat unit.

Ahh well..just a few more weeks and TURN 1 will be all set to process.
