Hi,

Doesn't escort with a 90% cap mean that 90% of the planes will stay to fly a cap mission while the others go off to escort something? Thats the setting I had on a Wildcat sqdn on the Saratoga and when the Japanese bombers attacked not one wildcat was flying cap? Am I missing something here.

Thanks for the help.

What was there fatigue and moral? Also was the CV damaged past 50 combined damage?

If you have high fatigue and low moral planes wont fly, and if the cummulative damage of Flt, Sys and Fire is greater than 50 nothing will fly either.

If this wasnt the case then you might have a problem

Keeping your fighters on 90% CAP will quickly result in high fatigue and consequently low moral. You only set it that High if you are sure you are going to be attacked. Timeing is crucial. Guess wrong and your pilots will be too fatiqued and depressed to fight. In the real world keeping 90% of your fighters aloft for any lenght of time would be logistically and operationally difficult and IMHO is modeled correctly in UV . Which is why this setting should be used spareingly

Messing around with exactly the same settings in my game and I have found that 30% cap is not enough but 40% cap seems to turn the tide quite nicely, yet still leaves enough escorts around to provide a sizable punch to knock through the other guys cap.

The differences beyond 40% cap does not seem to offer up any better protection as far as a damage ratio (almost like you are so crowding the skys that they can't coordinate any better).

Using a saved game against the AI (US AI) CV TF vs my CV TF in scenario 19 to test these results out. Yes, greater then 40% provides some measure of damage increase to the attacks as far as numbers shot down, but the same general number still get through to bomb. The side effect of this is that my attacks when launched against the AI CV did absolutely horrible with any less then the 60% escort, getting shot down at an insane rate.

You have to ask yourself the question:

Which is more important? Sinking his CV or shooting down his planes? Without the CV, his planes are no threat. Without the planes, he can alway get more aircraft.

One of the nasty little tricks I have picked up from this is bombing his airfield at PM to non-flying conditions and keeping it there. Once his CV's go down and his planes abort to PM, one can conduct sweeps at 100 feet with your zeros and destroy them at insane rates with no damage to your aircraft at all.

I have 20 F-4u1 Corsairs on the CVL Princeton set to a 90% cap on escort, they have a 99 moral and zero fatique and yet they didnt fly cap over themselves to defend an attack by 10 Nells?

Without knowing the exact specifics , I'll take a stab. I maybe wrong though. First off , cant remmeber offhand but the Cve in question has around 30 limit? The squadron in question was not native to that Cve perhaps and when it transferred over it automatically reduced No of planes in squadron. Now (again may be way off base) althought the No of servicible planes is reduced , you still have perhaps 10 plus in reserve ,making the total squadron size larger than the operational capacity of CVE (no more than 110 percent) .This in itself stops missions being flown.

It can be a big nuisance to the US player with the CVe's as many come into play over stocked to start with, and if you are new to this game it can be very misleading.

So if the CVE has more planes than its operational capacity no missions fly? That must be it. Thanks.
