We got the "combat file" as I call it (the wpae001.pws) back and nothing happened. They all disappeared. I think they are chicken!

CONUS:

Set up a 10k CS supply run to Pearl. This will deliver 10k supplies every 20 days. I will add another 10k capacity as more lift is available.

CANAL ZONE:

Nothing to do here.

NOPAC:

Nothing to do here.

CENTPAC:

Topped off the AS Holland and the AVP Heron at Midway with supplies.

Moving 13k supplies to Midway from Pearl.

Set TF 268 to not refuel at Pearl as it will have enough to get it to San Francisco and then refuel there instead of pulling fuel from a forward base.

SOPAC:

Disbanded TF 183, which was unloading supplies from support units.

We have 124 seaplane support at Noumea. I am suggesting we move 24 to Luganville, move the 6 there plus another 6 to Steward Island. Move another 12 to Rennell Island. And another 12 to Rossel Island. This should give us a lot of advanced seaplane support to keep an eye on what is going on in the SOPAC area. Doing this will allow us to set up a leapfrogging of seaplane support in the upcoming years. If we don’t want to do this feel free to disband TFs 183, 287, and 303. They are starting this process.

ANZAC:

Harvey, you have three xAKs disbanded at Sydney with 1600 supplies each on them. Not sure if you are aware of that or not.

Jeff, you have two S boats at Sydney and Brisbane, ready for deployment.

Setting DD Farragut to upgrade, this will give her an ASW of 6 and will put her into convoy escort duties.

APD Kane is sent to Pago Pago to help relieve the troop glut there.

CHINA:

Nothing to do here.

RUSSIA:

Nothing to do here.

Tracking the merchies at Sydney. Had disbanded them a couple turns ago to accomodate the big conoys unloading at Sydney.

Also in the near future I could use a couple of ASW ships to form a TF to hunt subs in the Brisbane area, as well as escort my supply convoys that will eventually be needed to supply Cooktown when I get it up and running.

What few I have constitute harbor patrols at Sydney and Brisbane

Harvey, there are several APDs coming out of the yard at Sydney shortly. A couple of them would make good ASW units. We really have a shortage of ASW units at this time.

Tracking that Mike.

It is just since my last two small convoys lost AK/AKLs to IJN subs I have suspended moving unescorted merchies north of Brisbane. Not an issue now, but given supplying Cooktown will require sealift which I will run out of Brisbane as Townsville is better used to base other activities. Also, some hunter/killer ASW TFs supported by increased airborne ASW patrol posture will be helpful for covering approaches to Brisbane. I am working on the ASW patrol piece by training up ASW qualified pilots and plan to field a LR Hudson equipped squadron to achieve this at Brisbane.

Just thinking ahead.

29 MAR 42

CONUS:

134th FA Bn loads up for the train trip to San Francisco from Eastern USA.

AMC Monowai is a month out from being fully repaired at San Diego. Not bad considering she took 90(79) Flt from a torpedo just over two months ago!

With San Francisco built out, it doesn’t need any engineer capacity, so moving 220th USN BF to LA to help build out that port.

Another 14k fuel on the way to NOPAC.

501st Cst AA loading for a trip to Dutch from Seattle.

CANAL ZONE:

Nothing to do here.

NOPAC:

802 EAB at Annette Is is picked up and moved to San Francisco for distribution further West.

CENTPAC:

SS Drum is ready at Pearl with the new fangled radar and sonar! Time to see if we can at least scratch some paint on some Japanese xAKs..

Upgraded VP-71 to the Catalina 5A model. This shorter range search plane is better for the rear areas like Pearl. This gives us some more Catalina 4 models for front units.

SOPAC

TF of AGs arrives at Noumea. One each sent to Ndeni, Luganville, and Efate.

Merged the Houston TF with the two BBs and sent them in to Bombard PM at range 16 (this is just outside the FA range for the Japanese LCUs and within the 5in/51 gun range for the BBs). We should be able to cycle this so that we can be bombarding 2 out every 3 days.

Jeff, make sure that TF358 goes to where the carriers go this next turn to stage for the next bombardment.

ANZAC:

DD Ralph Tabot moved into the Shipyard at Brisbane to use fix her engines. DD Mugford is scheduled in two days to follow, then two days after that the DD Mustin.

Set the DD Bagley to escort the AP President Jackson to Brisbane for repairs on both.

CHINA:

Nothing to do here.

RUSSIA:

Nothing to do here.

30 MAR 42

CONUS:

147th(Sep) Inf Rgt arrives at Eastern USA and set to Strat move to San Francisco for deployment.

CANAL ZONE:

Nothing to do here.

NOPAC:

Nothing to do here.

CENTPAC:

Nothing to do here.

SOPAC

TF358, BBs Nevada and Oklahoma, get CL Perth, CL Phoenix, DD McCall, DD Ellet, DD Voyager, and DD La Triomphant. All except the Phoenix are lesser AAA units, so it doesn’t take much from the CV groups. This TF is going into PM this night to bombard again.

Leaving the Lexington group to cover the BBs. Sending Hornet and Yorktown to SE of Rossel Is. to counter the Japanese movements in the Solomans. Created an ASW TF of 2 DDs to lead the way. Set search to cover the NE sector which is where we expect the enemy to be.

Lexington group and ASW group moved to stay away from subs.

AV Tangier is dropped off at Luganville and AVD Hubert is picked up by TF 183. This boosts Luganville’s seaplane capacity and gives us a TF of 12 seaplane support to send forward as a AVP, AVD combo. This TF will go to Stewart Island to set up a base there.

TF182 picks up Port Svc units for deliver to Efate and Luganville for faster development of those bases.

Moved TF337 to a more remote location to keep the subs off of her.

DD Kity is put pierside at Brisbane for conversion to an APD.

ANZAC:

Pulling CL Detroit out of the repair queue at Brisbane. It only has one engine damage. She will pick up a DD or two that will be arriving from Sydney in two days and raid the Torres Strait.

CHINA:

Nothing to do here.

RUSSIA:

Nothing to do here.

We are continuing the bombardment of Port Moresby, the suppression of various airfields in the region. One CVTF is supporting the BB bombardments. Two of the CVTFs are moving to intercept surface groups moving into the Soloman Islands area. They are "leaking" single xAKs through the Torres Strait and we are pulling the Detroit and two of the Big E's escort DDs to set to patrol this area and try to put a halt to it.

Our long term goals are to start working our way up the Solomans to start isolating Rabaul before things can be built up. We have the 1st Marine Div coming online in 90 days. Luganville, Efate, and Ndeni are critical stepping stones to this with Lunga following shortly after that.

Mike, the CV loss is by no means your fault.

Had you changed it to 40% another 5 Wildcats on CAP would have the same results. I would have moved them to the exact same spot, with 30% CAP just like you did. The ONLY time I put more than 30% CAP is when I am WANTING to draw enemy planes over my CVs to bring a fight to them, drain their AC, and then attack the next turn or two or if I am holding my bombers back from naval attack, and I am in highly contested airspace.

This is a good exchange in my opinion. They're hurt very bad. If those two CVs aren't sunk, they're going to be in the yard for a long time instead of escorting more invasions. We still have the Big E in the shipyard undergoing repairs and upgrades...and the Hornet is still sailing strong South of Port Moresby, which they will NOT be able to take. They cannot take Port Moresby and Noumea now. We have done a good job of stopping them at Port Moresby, we've taken at least three of their fleet CVs with us.. for all I know, they could lose one of these two yet...either to sub or lack of damage control or FOW (Actually sunk). The Lexington could still make it...she appears to be badly hurt, but you never know.

Just remember this... Japan has ONE CV operational from the KB at the moment. ONE, and it is March 42'. We have two in the SoPac, a third critical, and Harvey has one or two in the IO. I am loving our current situation.

I didn't see that in the reports. I saw the Yorktown listed, but not the Lexington.

Drat, I was hoping... I don't listen to the sound. All the machine guns shooting bother my hearing.

If you mean the sounds you hear during the "Ship Damage Repair" phase just after the air action and before the land combat, that could have been a Japanese CV making the glugs! Fingers crossed!

OH, I just had an idea. If I delete all the sounds in the sounds folder except the ones I want to hear, will the game still work?

I kinda thought the two torpedoes with the bomb hits might have to much.

This is compiled from several people, including my partners. I don't take credit for any part of it, but I think is a good general note of our strategic position at this time:

The second battle of Coral Sea ends up being a draw. We lost Lexington and Yorktown to what is reported as one sunk and one severely damaged Japanese CVs. After our other victory at the, now called, first battle of Coral Sea where we lost one CV, the Saratoga, to, what is looking like, two large CVs and one medium CV. This leaves the Japanese with just either the Soyru or Hiryu operational in March of 1942. We don’t like our losses, but the strategic implication of losing over 80% of the KB striking power is daunting to our opponents. Yes, the one severely damaged CV may make it back for repairs, but those will be six months or more. The Enterprise will be out of repairs in less than a month, and her, combined with the Hornet and the Wasp in less than two months along with the British carriers in the India area should be enough to keep the rest of the smaller CVLs and CVEs at bay.

31 MAR 1942

CONUS:

APD Colhoun is sent to Balboa as we are going to get a number of ships over the next couple of weeks.

AM Bayfield is sent from San Francisco to LA to escort the new APs from there to San Francisco.

CANAL ZONE:

TK Camden arrives at Balboa. Formed up with APD Little for the 11 day run to LA.

NOPAC:

Nothing to do here.

CENTPAC:

AV Langley is out of the repair docks at Pearl. She survived Mania and is now ready to add to the war effort! Formed her up with the AO Pecos and the AM Vireo. Will be sent to Pago Pago for further distribution from there. AM Vireo will return to Pearl.

The BBs under upgrade at Pearl will be ready in 10 days. Do we want to send them to help pound the troops at PM?

SOPAC:

The BB load rearm rate with the AKEs at Townsville will slow our bombardment schedule down a bit, but we should be able to pound PM 2-3 times a week on a non-repeating schedule.

TF287 is moving away from Rossel Island until the dust clears. The AVP and AVD there wouldn’t last long with the warships in the area. The other sets should be in position at Rennell Island and Stewart Island tomorrow. We can then move some search aircraft forward.

ANZAC:

The AKEs at Townsville are disbanded and the escorts sent back to Sydney. Harvey, they are 16 knot escorts. If you need them for your upcoming operation, please feel free to intercept them and use them.

The AKEs can only load ½ of the BBs ammo in a day. And it took quite a bit of their supply. Geesh, BB rounds cost a lot!

CHINA:

10th Construction is sent to Chengtu to help build the AF there for training.

RUSSIA:

Nothing to do here.

What are your thoughts on stopping the BB bombardments for the moment, and send the Hornet SE to pick up any stragglers? They can't have that much air cover left, and probably can't conduct flight opps on that last CV...my only concern is the enemy fleets still show CVs present, which I don't necessarily believe. It may not be worth it, as she is the only operational CV in the SOPAC at present..

Check out the capital ship losses to date, keeping in mind FOW.

We have lost a good chunk of pre WW2 cruisers, too.

I have a screenshot of the area... lots of action happening, but I need to tend to some work related stuff as I was gone to OKC for the Oklahoma Grain and Feed annual meeting all of yesterday. Yes, we did play golf. I have played 45 holes of golf since Sunday noon. :)
