I don't have any favorite Sun Tzu sayings. As far as I know, I don't know any Sun Tzu sayings. Other than what I can glean from the title of this thread, I don't know who Sun Tzu is or was.

I think it's related to a Shih Tzu.

I don't get it - much too abstruse. Something to do with keeping the troops fed?

Well, he actually said "in your own rice bowl". You just don't want to be in a world of Shih Tzu.

Stay out of Shih Tzu parades, too. And cover your face when the Shih Tzu hits the fan.

Let's try this one:

"Those that live by the sword, tend to get shot by those who do not."

Let's try this one:

"Those that live by the sword, tend to get shot by those who do not."

Or the Lord of the Rings version: "Those who do not carry swords can still die upon them."

What's your favorite aphorism in The Art of War?

Mine is, "Rush down like a mountain stream; fill every crevice."

"The skillful warrior attacks,
so that the enemy cannot defend.
He defends,
so that the enemy cannot attack."

And,

"No nation has ever benefited from a protracted war."

Sunn-Tzu's description of various "grounds" are also fascinating.

Did you know that taste actually is subordinate to the sense of smell, and I have a really long snout. I also have a really long tongue, but I did not have to deploy it in that case. I wasted nothing, Kirk missed out.

Bingo on Napoleon. It was the morning of the battle of Austerlitz, observing the Allied movements.

I think it was more like "when they are destroying themselves".

Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak

and the ole goodies

“Thus we may know that there are five essentials for victory:
1 He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.
2 He will win who knows how to handle both superior and inferior forces.
3 He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks.
4 He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.
5 He will win who has military capacity and is not interfered with by the sovereign.”
