Have some lax building codes there. Works for me.

Only 79 degrees here. Almost time to leave work. I have a hot date with my bike in 45 minutes!

Dixie I am sure I have just seen a Catalina and a Swordfish flying over South London. There were also five helicopters - Sea King, Lynx, Puma and two others flying in close formation.

Any idea what is going on?
warspite1

Found it on the website! There is a flypast commemorating the Battle of the Atlantic at Greenwich. Unbelievable - why didn't they advertise it?!?!?!?

Seeing that Swordfish has made my day Funny to see loads of blokes looking intently up at the sky on my way home - while women just carried on walking

Warspite1,

The Swordfish and the Catalina I get, but why the Helis associated with the "Battle of the Atlantic"?

I'm guessing that the FAA was trying to do a "Heritage flight" equivalent. But they retired the last Sea Harrier. So if the FAA has no fixed wings , you use what you have. And that's helo's.

It looked like the Helicopters were giving the Swordfish a guard of honour. A really impressive sight!! Amazing how much the poor Stringbag seemed to be thrown about in the air - looked very er.. flimsy

I'm taking a half day of vacation this afternoon to take Alex to get his driving Learner's Permit and then he has to get ready for his first AF JROTC formal ball. Mom and Dad are going to enjoy dinner at a different table with other parents and to take some pictures during the awards ceremony.

AF ROTC? Mike , you failed. USN , or even USMC ROTC. But USAF? The shame, the shame.

Nah, he's going to try and get stationed at Grand Forks AFB so he can get to see top ranked hockey games in the finest arena in North America.

It's JROTC, Steve, at the high school level. You participate or not in the program that the school has.

That being said, he still is set on going to West Point. And, I still can't get him to even consider visiting the city of Annapolis, much less the Academy.

Obviously you are using the wrong bait. He likes sailing doesn't he? There are few places better than "Crabtown" for that (at government expense yet). And if you should arrange a "winter vacation" to upstate NY in January , you'll probably horrify the poor lad (having been raised in the south as he has). And has anyone told him yet that the state tree in Minot's state is the telephone pole? (As someone who has a "cold weather NEC" and something like 9 "bluenoses", having spent time in both places , as well as Greenland,Iceland,Norway and coming from Maine , only Chicago is colder and no where has more snow).

His head is screwed on right, but it has nothing to do with his preference of service branch.

Weekend - Tithe.

Time for a nice run in the sunshine, some lunch, and then off to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles for his permit test.

Hell, I would have given 'partial credit' for US Army aviation too. I thought the whippersnapper wanted to fly Apaches? I thought he wanted to be in a reputable branch of the military?
