When a 'mine' unit is placed on a 50m hex, how many mines does it actually represent? Since you can place up to 4 mines I assume that its ' a mine every X meters'. what was used as the 'yard stick' for this?

I believe each 'mine' represents around 10 actual mines. ------------------ Mike Amos Meine Ehre Heisst Treue

True. During mine deployment (after running the mouse over another hex first), it will tell you the actual number of mines present.

I found out something funny about mines - you cannot show the AI where the mines are so that it does not run it's forces into them. I made a map which was an area that had been held by both sides at different times, so the premise was that both sides had inspected and planted in the minefields and therefore knew where they were. I planted mines for both sides in the same hexes, figuring this way the AI would avoid them. Wrong! Tanks and trucks were blowing up left and right - I finally had to remove some of the mines! You'd think that the AI would stay out of hexes it knows are mined! I want to do some more experimenting with this. ------------------ Don

Not a complete solution, but as I've heard others say, the AI can spot mines if you put barbed-wire in the hex too.

Hi all I have drove my units onto my own mines and I'm a supposedly smarter then the AI (I wonder) (I once killed a Tank with over 80 kills this way) ------------------ I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a differant direction!

When I 'purchase mines' its in multiples of 10 mines so if I hit it 10 times I get 100 mines. Those 100 mines can go one per hex , in 100 hexes or up to 4 per hex in 25 hexes. But surely thats not 1 mine per 50 meter hex, other wize the chance of hitting them would be tinny! It seems 50/50 with one mine. So if 50 meter hex , to get 100% would mean , something like two rows of mines staggered so theres a mine every 1-2 meters. Alex Buchners German Infantry Hand book reports that each Infantry Division 'carried > 2000 mines'. If in any 'entrenched position' they deployed 1/3 of this stock thats ~ 700 mines over 9 battalions in two lines of defence. If each Battalion occupies a 2-3 km front thats 78 mines per Battalion and 39-26 mines per KM. With that density you could put two mine barriers that completely cross the map. I did this once in SP-2 defending S Korea campaign and crucified the N K attack.

Thanks Charles, I'll try the barbed wire trick. But Mogami, I don't know. According to Tankhead the beer gremlins were driving your vehicles onto the mines and you were AWOL

In PBEM-games AND hotseat ones, I have a problem with my mines disappearing. This has happened both in delay and defence scenarios. Has anyone else had this problem? Any tips or solutions to this. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug? And I mean, they actually disappear, they cease to exist, not just on the display.

Mines are somewhat abstracted in the game, I would think of them more as mine "factors" even when it says "mines". Especially since they are both AP and AT at the same time.

Playing in a WWII campaign in WaW, I had a defend scenario that was Germans defending against Brits in 44. I knew the Brits didn't buy massive air like the Americans so I decided to splurge my support points into as many mine points as the game would allow me to buy, I had a minefield 8 rows wide with a row of dragons teeth to stop vehicles backing it up. Aside from a a very few lucky infantry units, the AI never got close enough to shoot at my troops. It finally broke from all the vehicles that died reconning the mines. thanks, John.
