In retrospect, we perhaps did not need to start landing Aus 7th Div at Iba, saving her isntead for Laoag, but at least JJ have divided their forces further, possibly allowing for a defeat in detail. I wont be surprised to see enemy troops at Lingayen either.

The small airborne group at Cabantuan was wiped out by 90 tankettes. This again opens East-West communication with Clark and Manira.

With all due respect to Fabertong and Lord Admiral Nelson and their reputations, it is my opinion that their hearts (and minds) might not be in this game at this time.

Thank you Ironcald.

Important safety tip, however.

Among the Fore people of Papua New Guine never EVER doff your hat. It is likely to be interpreted as "Your sister smells of howler monkey droppings and I dare you to take a taste of this{your head}!"

As a shot across the bow, I imagine, the IT guys cut me off from Matrix forums and Barnyardlove with new filter settings yesterday at work. Sensing my rising anger, they no doubt had a hushed meeting and it is back on today.

In context it can also mean "Your sister smells of howler monkey droppings and I want to eat her brains out".

*************Pranning**************

Iba: Iba is still beseigned by two wee Jap dobber units, details unkown. 90% of 21st Marine is ashore with Col Pepper in charge. This plus 400 men of 503rd PIR, some arty and some support units can likely hold in a jungle rough hex. Off shore is a 2 BB, 6 DD SCTF with "Ching" Lee in charge, plus some PT boats. If Kirishima plows on toward Iba we will have a 2 v 1 BB night fight and we have radar.

JJ might try it because there are at least 20 juicy transports there now. They may not know we have 2 BB's. 7th Aus did NOT disembark yet. There are 4 AP/AK's with some of the heavy equipment of 21st Marine. These will dock. The remainder (including the 7th Aus Div) of the transports will move west 100 miles to rendezvous with the carriers. We don't want Kirishima finding the carriers at night. No point in trying to land at Laoag until the BB's are freed up from their current duty.

Lingayen: Just some aviation support, a coy of paras and some Marines flown up from Central Luzon. We need to get soem help in there before the wee Jap dobbers from San Fernando arrive.

Manira: Will try air to ground attacks if the weather is good to weaken the two WJD divisions. Some of the heavy equipment from the regiments there is moving up from Lucena.

Altimonan: 34th IR attacks again today.

************Tax Day, 1943(c)*************

PI: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh! <light goes on> JJ has deduced that Loaog is our landing spot and they wre waiting for us. Looks like perhaps two SCTF there. No night battle at Iba.

Morning Air attack on TF, near Laoag at 81,69

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Raid spotted at 10 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 3 minutes

Allied aircraft
SBD-3 Dauntless x 12

Allied aircraft losses
SBD-3 Dauntless: 7 damaged

Japanese Ships
DD Suzukaze
DD Hayashio, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DD Ushio

I guess some staff hack left some of the SBD's on ground attack. Idiots. Some of the defending Zeroes are from a Kaga air group, the others from Soryu. This is why you don't use SBD's on ground attack at dive bombing altitudes unless the defender is in bad shape. The SBD's are prone to ground fire. We discover a regiment of 54th Div at Iba.

Morning Air attack on 54th/A Division, at 78,75 (Iba)

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 18 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 2
A6M3a Zero x 6
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 1
Ki-45 KAIa Nick x 3

Allied aircraft
P-39D Airacobra x 6
P-40B Warhawk x 1
F4U-1 Corsair x 5
SBD-3 Dauntless x 22

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
P-39D Airacobra: 2 destroyed
SBD-3 Dauntless: 3 destroyed, 3 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
11 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled

Attack on ground troops at Manira. In the end, there is no LYB attack at Manira today. The B-24's are 8x as effective as Wichita.

Morning Air attack on 19th Division, at 79,77 (Manila)

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 40 NM, estimated altitude 12,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 13 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-61-Ia Tony x 1

Allied aircraft
B-24D Liberator x 20
B-24D1 Liberator x 9

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
B-24D Liberator: 3 damaged
B-24D1 Liberator: 4 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
84 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled

Afternoon attack near Laoag. Is Kirishima detached? I seriously doubt it.

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Laoag at 79,70

Weather in hex: Thunderstorms

Raid detected at 50 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 19 minutes

Allied aircraft
P-39D Airacobra x 1
P-40K Warhawk x 9
SBD-3 Dauntless x 11

Allied aircraft losses
SBD-3 Dauntless: 10 damaged

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima

Aircraft Attacking:
1 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 2000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb
10 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 4000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb

Troopships or a suppry convoy at Aparri. The have a good CAP. We have Hellcats. We win. Note these boys flew right over Kirishima. Must be croudy.

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Aparri at 82,73

Weather in hex: Light rain

Raid spotted at 21 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 8 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M3a Zero x 3
Ki-43-Ia Oscar x 20
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 5

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 10
F6F-3 Hellcat x 12
SBD-3 Dauntless x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ia Oscar: 1 destroyed
Ki-44-IIa Tojo: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
SBD-3 Dauntless: 4 damaged

Japanese Ships
xAP Kashima Maru
xAP Ussuri Maru, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAK Utide Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Syunko Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire

It does appear Ushio is damaged badly enough to be detached. The Oceanic White Tips close in. A staff hack remembered to change the TBF's to bomb load-outs (no torps at Iba) but forgot to cahnge attack altitude....so they glide bomb at 5000 ft. Fortuantely there isn't much AAA.

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Laoag at 81,69

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid spotted at 16 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Allied aircraft
SBD-3 Dauntless x 2

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
DD Ushio, Bomb hits 1, on fire

Aircraft Attacking:
2 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 4000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Laoag at 81,69

Weather in hex: Overcast

Raid spotted at 16 NM, estimated altitude 8,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 7 minutes

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 13
TBF-1 Avenger x 5

Allied aircraft losses
TBF-1 Avenger: 1 destroyed by flak

Japanese Ships
DD Ushio, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage

Oh wait! Ushio is "not dead yet" and she has friends. In fact, USS Porpoise ends her "porpoise-driven life".*

Sub attack near Laoag at 81,69

Japanese Ships
DD Suzukaze
DD Hayashio
DD Ushio, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS Porpoise, hits 12, and is sunk

Burma: JJ has started a retreat from Northern Burma. They abandoned Myitkynia and Paoshan (I think). You saw the picture of the capture and beautification of Myitkynia. If you look carefully you can see the pip on 20th Indian. Where they are headed will put them in a position to cross the Salween NE of Prome somewhere, causing consternation among the WJD and forcing them to spread out. The boys from Ramree could then try to get across N or S of Prome or go head to head.

The 20K WJD moving out of Shwebo could have been trying to Strat move to Katha and the train crew went on strike when they heard the Allies took it. If so, it will take them a while to get their stuff on the road again, or they might recognize the bigger threats to the south and back up the train.
Looks like Taung Gyi and the base NW of it are the keys to locking up N Burma.
